After a long day of exploring the university me be my family walked around the town, we (me+family) were really in the mood for some ice cream and this hit the spot. The interior of the shop is like somebody's kitchen, except decorated a lot more. To me, it was a welcoming atmospheres The employees made some mistakes but were very friendly and the service went quite smoothly. The ice cream we got was delicious and so was the waffle cone I ordered. My mom got the Kahlua Baileys flavor, which was alcoholic. They have a bunch of alcoholic flavors which is pretty unique and we thought that was a nice touch. read more

Yum! The icecream was not too hard, had a really good creamy texture and is locally made in central NY which is also a bonus! It is a very well kept shop with a great environment. They had a couple of tables outside their door which was great for our dogs who also got icecream too! Their specialty chocolates (especially the chocolate covered orange jelly) were also delicious. Wonderful candy and ice cream shop! Delightful chocolate shop with tons of wonderful candies to choose from. My wife and I came in for ice cream and loved it! She had a sundae and it was amazing according to her and me (of course I HAD to try it). I had a coffee milk shake it was among the best I ever tried. We will definitely come back again. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the service. We came in and waited about 4 minutes before even being acknowledged. Once helped, the service was good but I feel like a customer should at least be greeted within a few moments of entering. That might be a pet peeve of mine and only me, but it seems like common sense. read more

The ice creams and milkshakes are exciting because of the array of options to create your dream! They turn out delicious and leave you incredibly satisfied. If you are a student at Colgate who has access to the dining halls or a car, it is about the same quality as Frank maybe a bit less delicious than Gilligans, but a good walking option for anyone wanting something close by. The chocolates and desserts are mediocre. Not good or bad and mostly just leave you craving the treat even more but in a way that brings up a distant memory of your favorite chocolate you tried somewhere before and you now crave that. The service is horrendous. I am choosing to leave this review because of my experiences as well as multiple people I have spoken to who have witnessed or faced hostility from the employees. I have had their rudeness even make me walk out, put back the boxes of chocolates I intended to buy, and just figure out somewhere else to go because I refuse to give them my business after such attitude. I have heard of other friends having the same encounters and doing the same thing, so clearly this needs to be assessed because I do want to support this business as I think it is an adorable option in town, but they are definitely losing sales for themselves. I cannot in good faith recommend coming to this location. Perhaps once the service is improved, it is worth going to since it is not so inexpensive and "worth the outcome" where it is acceptable having to deal with the hostility. read more

Want to go to a place with delicious chocolate, but have to put up with some of the worst customer service you'll ever experience? Maxwell's is your place. I've frequented this chocolate shop many times in the past. Their chocolate is great. I found myself in the area not to long ago, even though I live 25 minutes away, I would not drive to this establishment for their chocolate. Especially after this last encounter. When I arrived, there were customers ahead of me. Two of the employees were working, employee A, was working on what looked to be an ice cream order the other, employee B brunette with large circle glasses was helping customers at the chocolate display. After employee B was finished helping the male customers at the chocolate display, she did not even acknowledge me, she went ahead grabbed something from behind the counter, went up to the stool at the ice cream bar and proceeded to be on her cell phone, texting? and chatting with other employee A who was making milkshakes. I then had to wait an additional 5 minutes. I was never greeted. Acknowledged. Eye contact. Smoke signal. Nothing. During the wait time. I'm not an expert in retail, but I have worked in customer service and if someone is standing there and hasn't been assisted, I'm going to see what they would like, so I can get them their goods and send them on their way. After standing there feeling invisible I should have left. I doubt they would have noticed. The chocolate I purchased was good. Sad to say, I won't be back. That awkward and unwelcoming experience made an everlasting impression among all the times I've been there. read more

When I saw the edible cookie dough pictures, I half jokingly commented inquiring about gluten free options. Within 24 hours, I was notified that they had worked out a recipe and could ship it for me to my daughter in college. She received it today, and said it's awesome!! I highly recommend Maxwell's!! Some of the nicest and most amazing service I have ever had! My daughter had her first college birthday for an away volleyball tournament in Hamilton that I was not able to join. They made the cutest cake pops for all of the girls on the team and even offered to help deliver them because I couldn't! Then they looked up her team online, and made a pop with each girl's number and did everything so cutely in the team colors! Everyone loved them and their extra effort was greatly appreciated by the girls! Highly recommend Maxwell's!!! read more

Being the maid of honor in a wedding, i was in charge of organizing the bridal shower for my bride. I wanted wedding favors that would be unique and enjoyable, not just something the guests would discard a week later. I asked Maxwell's if they could to a two-pack truffle box, and they came through in a BIG way. Not only were the boxes a perfect match to the color scheme of the wedding, everyone LOVED the truffles (salted caramel, and peanut butter).
