I'm sad to have just found this place only for it to be closing May 9, 2025. Gardening is an expensive hobby, especially if you buy your supplies from the local nursery! I just paid $36 for a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil at the local Flora Grubbs nursery in MDR. Later that night, I'm on Amazon researching and see someone mention the same bag of soil will be a fraction of the price at your local hydroponics store. Hopped on Yelp and found GreenCoast LAX! Stopped by the next day and my goodness... Fox Farms Ocean Forest for $11.50!!!!! Fox Farms Happy Frog for $12.50! These are the prices we should be paying for this soil!!! A guy at the front desk was helpful and answered all of our questions. If I don't find another local hydroponics store with similar prices, I will be visiting their Long Beach location! My experience in comparison to these other reviews was lackluster. I arrive around 4pm, there were about 3 young guys at the counter, 2 were helping other customers. I approach the counter and I let him know I bought my first clone and that I'm a complete newbie, I still didn't get a warm welcome. After a few seconds of awkward silence, I let him know I was looking for a PH kit to test the soil for my plant. He takes out the General Hydroponics brand and sets it on the counter. He never gave me any explanations, didn't try to help me compare brands, didn't even tell me why that's the one I should purchase. I then ask him does he have a digital option, he then takes out 2. One was the Hanna instrument I purchased and the second was blue lab I believe for $100. I don't feel comfortable spending my money on things and idk what I'm really getting, I didn't know about there refund policy, if there are warranties, Zilch! As I'm waiting to pay the $52 since it was difficult for me to get change back, I notice they have gorilla grow tents and I was happy for a moment because that's also what I needed a grow tent, I let him know you're losing out on money you should be trying to up-sale me. Instead he kept recommending me to buy nutrients for my clone, when I already purchased some when I planted it. He just asked if I wanted anything else and yes I did, but not with that type of customer service, then wanted to know if I had a membership. I told him no, he didn't bother to see if I wanted one. I had to tell him I would like to make one and gave him my information. I ended up looking around on my own, after the fact and saw a lot of interesting things, I even wanted to go back to the counter to buy some products but told myself my money is better off somewhere else. Once I got home and I start looking at all the manuals and instructions. I find out both PH testers are for water only....when I told him I needed it for my soil. Now I've wasted $52 and didn't get what I truly needed and it's all because someone was careless at a job they get paid for! As a first time grower, in the learning process this was a really bad experience for me. I really hope other hydroponic locations do not carry themselves this way, as far the future I don't see myself returning and I can not recommend this location to anyone. read more

Love this place! Went for the first time today and everyone was really helpful, super knowledgeable, but also super chill. On top of it, they have crazy good prices for really fancy, top quality soil. + A lot less expensive and higher quality stuff than big warehouse stores. Support a small business! COVID-19 related: they were also really great about enforcing PPE and 6 ft. guidelines, which made me feel good about shopping today. Also super wide open and airy, with doors open. Good to consider when going places nowadays, obvz. Also, my dog loved it there. And, lots of parking. :-) read more

All I can say is when a company has as much knowledge and the staff are as courteous and helpful as they all are they had to expaned. Stop by and check it out - it is a welcoming place with friendly and helpful staff! Wanted to check out hydroponics systems today. As soon as I walked in, I received eye-contact hellos and smiles from staff present around the entrance of the store. Adam spent time explaining various systems, lighting requirements, etc. with me and also gave me literature to take home to learn more about hydroponics. A female staff member also helped me pick out organic fertilizers. Although I didn't purchase any hydroponic equipment today I was able to leave the store with "smart pots", fertilizers, and other gardening supplies for my sister-in-law to start her first organic back-yard garden. Ok so the straight up honest truth!! I would give a 3.5 stars, the selection on nutes, beneis, and other stuff is limited to well the top of the line, or I should say the um you know big boy brands, botanicare, advanced :(, G.H., they have a couple of the midsized guys hvy 16, and Cutting edge bout it. I am a soil grower and they are more over geared for hydro, they have good- to great pricing depending on the item which you are looking for and etc. 1000w HPS/MH switchable ballast in a aircooled hood, with a bulb $200 can't beat that with a stick!!!! For most of my knick knack needed to finish, omg! I forgot! or OH! Effin hell I need this now stuff they have it, and at a decent price not to mention close to home!!!! Staff is friendly....... Not just a hydropnic store for "exotic plants" it's much more... I went there to get 3 4' two bulb grow lights for my shady plants for the terrace under the deck as I do not grow exotic plants - no wholesale electrical supply had anything in stock and theirs was perfect - better quality and design. I had been looking for bamboo stakes for my bamboo in front of my house so the stakes don't show - Home depot, Orchard nor any garden supply had anything of the same quality or thickness... Then they have a great selection of pruning shears and Fiskar scissors which are impossible to find in stores... So If you like gardening come here and they will give you a discount on their wide range of organic super potting soil half palette or full..The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful... didn't have to ask they helped me with my stuff out the car.
