This is a diner for the ages. I recently had a chance to visit the Greenback Diner (formerly the Greenback Drugstore and Diner. It did not disappoint. A full service diner, complete with milkshakes, cheeseburgers, and fries. They have healthier food also; but who goes to a diner for that? Check their hours of service. Decided to stop today for lunch with my mom as she loves old diners. This place is so darn cute. You can tell the guest enjoy eating here as the atmosphere feels like being at memaw's. The service was outstanding and the ladies made you feel like you were family. Mom ordered the special of the day, Chicken Salad. She said it was great. I had the loaded Grilled Cheese with lettuce & tomato. A side of fried okra hit the spot. You must try the ice tea. Would have taken better pictures but it seems my tummy said it was hungry lol. read more

Service was horrible. Waited for 1.5 hrs for meal...found out our ticket had fallen on the floor. We were asked if we still wanted it...we asked how much longer. Chef yell at us saying I DONT KNOW!!! This is all after our ticket was lost by them...rude! Charged full price. read more

My husband and I went to Greenback to check out the castle and afterwards we went to the museum and then we needed to eat so we went to the Diner and it was wonderful!! Service was outstanding! Have tried to eat here a few times when in that area but never had until finally the other night. They were so sweet-- I first thought they'd be closed but the place looked busy so I ran in to ask if they were open and the lady (owner, I found out) was very clear in telling me that YES I could eat there even though it was like 2 minutes before their closing time (how many times have you gone to a place 15-20 min. before "closing time" only to be told it was too late? So this was refreshing.) Really good vibes sitting at the counter; seemed like everyone knew everyone else, and the waitress was very quick and pleasant. I got a sandwich and onion rings and all were delicious. I really liked the onion rings and the onions inside the crisp fried batter seemed easier to cut/bite than most. Sandwich was chicken/bacon/ranch and really hit the spot too. I would want to try daily specials, if I went back-- which I hope to! PS It's hard to believe one review below that reamed them for bad service. I went here with about 20-25 people I met after pulling them out of ditches from snow and ice, it was a nice country vibe to the place and not too loud with everything. The food was great I got the steak and cheese sandwich with fries, everything was cooked perfect and was juicy and had flavor to it. Nothing was too crispy or not seasoned, I have nothing negative to say about the place only flaw I had was sever didn't get my drink until I said something to her about it but there was a lot going on so really nothing bad with that either, she got the food out to everyone as it came up and didn't keep us waiting. On vacation stopped for breakfast. Had a great meal. An old friend took us. The server prepared the wrong omelette for my wife. offered to make a new omelette. wife declined. we wanted to buy a T- shirt. owner removed wife's size from their display gave it to my wife no charge. they were very nice to us. we left a tip to cover the free shirt. overall this visit included an amazing meal with great service. very impressed. This is an all American diner with a comforting and relaxing feel. The open kitchen is very welcoming. The decor and layout are what one would expect for a wonderfully quiet town. It is clean and the locals are there in force. The food was great. Biscuits and gravy were excellent. The pancakes were very good as well. The biscuit sandwiches are delicious. The menu is smaller than some places I have been in the area. The perfect sized menu means better execution of the dishes and a higher quality that you are glad to have. We were here a little over a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed the place , great food and service. We came back today and what a change. We sat and waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to notice us. My wife got her attention as she was greeting a patron that had just seat at the next table to us and ask her hot some menus. She apologized and said she thought we had already been served (she was the only waitress at the time). After a few minutes she brought us the lunch menus. I flipped it over and found a dinner menu. She informed us that they stoped serving breakfast at 10:30. It was now 10:47, or about 15 minutes after we arrived. We ordered lunch. While we watched the cook go through the process of clearing the breakfast supplies and getting the lunch supplies. I watched the gentleman who had arrived after us finish his breakfast and head to the counter to settle up. Meanwhile we waited another 25 minutes for our Philly cheese steaks to arrive. After consuming a delightful sandwich I headed to to counter to pay my tab. After a 8 minute delay (yes I was counting) one of the two waitresses came to collect my money. This is a cafe with about 11 tables and 10 counter seats. Our dining experience (eating one sandwich each) consumed about 1:20. The waitress told me on the way out that she was sorry, as one of the waitresses has called off. No food is that good. We won't be back. read more

We found Greenback diner while looking on Yelp and I'm glad we came to try it ourselves. My family enjoyed a wide array of food that included burgers, friends, onion rings, and a fried Honeybun with ice cream on top. Let me tell you a secret, you won't leave hungry and if you do you didn't do something right. The portions were great and the prices were more than fair. It is comfort food at its best. I happen to be in Greenback for an event at the depot. Saw Greenback Diner and it said small town USA all over the front. I wasn't disappointed it is a laid-back part of Americana. The food was good, and the staff very friendly. Spoke with the owner, Tami, who was doing the cooking very nice lady that works hard. Locals know how great it is. Unless your a regular they treat you horribly at this location. I had went in with my two daughters and grandson and three women and a young boy (highschool age) was working. As we walked up to the register the young boy was ringing up an older gentleman after he left the kid litterly looked at us , didn't say a word and walked off. Non of the ladies ever greeted us or acknowledged us either. We stood at the counter for 15 min waiting for someone to acknowledge us but instead they kept walking by us like we were invisible. They definitely don't have the southern hospitality that my dad would receive every time we walked through the door. I will never go back again!!!!! If I could give it zero stars I would! read more

When we got there it seemed like a great little place to eat, our waitress was very nice. The place was full except for the bar seats, the 3 of us sat at the bar and the cook said isn't there any other places they can sit. We got our coffee and after 15 minutes our order wasn't taken and another waitress asked us to move to a table, we did. Then they finally took our order. 1 hour into it we watched people come and go, watched people order, eat and leave. We asked how much longer and they said your next 2 times. So we finally gave up and left. Either they didn't like the us being outsiders or the fact that my son's girlfriend is Hispanic. Either way the cook truly showed a racist side to her! read more

My wife and I went here on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 around 12:30pm. The place was super clean, the staff friendly, thought we found a winner.... After looking at the menu and couldn't decide between a burger etc. We decided to get " the special" which was grilled cheese and chili. We thought it was on Texas toast, it was not. Food came fairly fast, however it was just warm, not what I expected from chili. Your really can't mess up grilled cheese so that was ok, the chili was a touch on the sweet side for us, prefer no sugar in chili and you could definitely taste it. All in all the food was descent. We may go back, maybe not here's why..... I went to the register to pay the bill. Mind you we didn't see the price for " the special" noticed the rest of the menu was reasonably priced. Our bill was $18.87. REALLY??? WOW ARE U KIDDING ME. 2 grilled cheese sandwiches 2 cups not really a bowl of chili and 2 unsweetened ice teas. OMG WOW!!!! We are not cheap by any means but this "special " is way over priced. We haven't closed the door yet on the Greenback Diner. We will give them a couple more chances but we have learned to check the prices for a grilled cheese. read more

The food is made right away and served fresh from the griddle. The selections are sometimes limited. I don't care for AMERICAN cheese, but they don't have Swiss. The service is always very friendly, and the food is very tasty. We like going to this little gem. Go early, they aren't open for dinner. read more

A cute, historic place (since 1923). Talk about off the beaten path. But a nice find if you like small local diners. This place is not fancy but you'll get a good country meal for a good price while you enjoy local characters. This is the only place in town to get a bite to eat.
