Screw your markets and bazaars with their aromas of herbs and spices, nothing awakens the senses like the playful crinkle of a monster munch packet or the shine in your eye when the sun catches off the packaging of a Capri Sun (The only place I have found in Australia that stocks them FYI). Expect a friendly greeting from the Welsh lady who's on the counter and get lost in the selection of stuff you'd forgotten you'd missed. Apart from Taste Ireland, which I have also reviewed there is nowhere that I have come across that has as much selection as these guys. While it is mostly sweets and confectionery there is a huge selection of grocery items available too. You name it they pretty much have it. from washing up liquids, to powders, sauces, stuffing, cordials, soft drinks and football merchandise as well. The selection is absolutely massive. if you're missing home and some of your favorite grub pop in and see these guys. It'll be money and time well spent. If you can't make it into the city, they do online ordering too.

The Emporium tries to source from local small businesses and growers which is commendable but of course all that stuff is more expensive. But fantastic if you can afford it! This was the first time I actually dined at a place using Yelp on the fly in Coogee. Usually the…read moreplaces we went to were recommended by friends or have already been researched before heading over. As we were not familiar with Coogee and the dining options, in comes Yelp for ideas on where to dine. Spice Thai Cuisine has great reviews and so that was it. It looked promising and it got filled up very quickly. The place is smallish and you do get very close to other diners, but no matter, the food is key. We ordered some dishes to share - tom yum soup (seafood), red curry duck, basil chicken stir fry and crying tiger (grilled beef). The food was relatively good (you cannot compare it to the actual Thai food in Thailand) and tasty. I liked the red curry duck which was interesting as there were lychees in it. It gave a sweetness to the curry which was not very spicy (to those who can take the heat). The curry was heaven on rice. The tom yum soup was ok, would be better if there were more herbs and spices in there like lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime leaves. The basil chicken was not too bad though I guess I would prefer minced chicken and not chicken slices. There was no wok hei (fragrant smoke from frying in a wok under high heat) smell or taste in the dish. The crying tiger (grilled beef) was recommended by my aunt. It was something new to me and I couldn't say I am a fan. The beef was a bit tough and not tender as expected from a wagyu beef. Or maybe I had it all wrong and it was not wagyu beef after all. Still, it was not my favorite dish that night. They do not accept AMEX and there is a minimum spend to use EFPTOS or Visa/Mastercard.

The cafe offers plenty of options such as cakes, waffles, hot chocolate, coffee, teas and chocolate fondue sets but to name a few things. The hot chocolates on offer are of a good standard but my favourite thing to order is the White Chocolate Chai. The White Chocolate Chai arrives out pipping hot in a tea infuser. You place the infuser over your mug and push to release the flavours. The White chocolate blends beautifully with the chai leaves and offers a couple of mugs worth which is great. The hot chocolates are good here too but I have had better in other cafe's so usually wouldn't order it from here. They are famous for the waffles which just don't do it for me. A little over priced I feel and that's the same for the chocolate fondue. With that said I think they offer plenty of dessert options and generally is something for everyone on the menu. The cafe also has a shop that sells a range of chocolate related products such as fondue sets, mugs, chocolate flakes, waffles and many chocolates. The staff take a really strong front in regards to selling the products they offer which is great to see. Their knowledge and enthusiasm is awesome and the lady we encountered knew the history of the company as well as its extensive range. Great option in Bondi for a pre or post event cinema snack or drink.
