If you can't find this bakery along the mish-mash of shops and restaurants on Marrickville Road, sniff your way there. Once inside, you'll find a random, but cute and quirky collection of Chinese and western bakery treats.
To the right you'll see a self-serve stash of Chinese pastries and buns. So grab a tray and a pair of tongs, and start piling up your purchases. (The $4 banana cakes are delicious!) To the left, you'll find the refrigerated goods - perfect for an alternative to ice-cream on a hot summer's day.
If you're in the mood for trying something different, test your tastebuds on a mango, banana or peach pancake for $2.50. It's basically a whole lot of cream and custard mixed with slices of fruit, then wrapped in a thin crepe and kept cool. Sounds strange, but surprisingly gooood. You may have spotted these little suckers on a yum cha trolley before, but the bubbly owner of New Peony will assure you hers are better. There's also a wide selection of cream rolls and cakes drowning in icing and fruit, should you be in the mood for a sugar coma. read more
