I was drawn into Barby's by its colorful storefront and the golly-looking cartoon man with orange chef cap (on the shop's sign). Inside this Haymarket bakery off Goulburn Street you will find all the Chinese bakery usuals, and much more. The pasty cases display sweet and savory alongside each other. Try and pork and cheese roll, which crispy shredded meat decorating the top. Finish with a cookies and cream frosted doughnut for dessert. But don't panic if your finicky taste buds can't make up their mind. Grab a roll, or a whole loaf, of chocolate cheese bread and call it a day. Green tea, taro and red bean buns are all packaged in sets of threes ready to take home with you. There are also bags of smaller chocolate chip and walnut cookies that come in that dangerous I-am-never-ever-going-to-be-able-to-stop-eating-you size. Swing by Barby's before your next tea party to become the hit. Or stuff your face shamelessly on your walk home. Either way, I don't suspect you'll be disappointed. read more
