Terrible! Supervisor Styles said he would be on site, he was not. When I looked out the window, 11 branches from the lower part of the trunk, were cut off my beautiful tree. There was only supposed to be 3 branches cut off way up at the top. These lower branches use to provide privacy and shade, now none.. The tree is about 100-120 feet and the branches any where from 5-7 inches wide! I tried to talk to the men in the tree but they did not understand English and the 'fill in' person in charge could not communicate with them either. Also very unreliable when they would show up. For this job the crew arrived at 5:15 PM, I waited all day and took off from work, no communication on time estimation to keep me in the loop. I also contracted to have them cut down and grind the stump of a pine the same day, the pine was cut down fine, but they could not grind the stump because it got too dark. Three attempts to get them back to grind the stump failed. Not on my part, thiers. Three scheduled times to do it and all no shows! I finally had to hire another company to grind. A tree fell on our house in the storm! Yikes! Phil and his crew arrived to our rescue within a couple hours, rolling up with a full armada of impressive equipment. Everyone was professional and hard-working and it was a coordinated operation to watch. They scoped the problem and carefully set up their crane before executing the removal - which meant a dramatic lift of the big trunk and foliage over our house and power lines, before setting it into the street and instantly woodchopping it. They worked for hours - until after midnight - and they worked hard. We had a small front tree (with string lights) obstructing their crane's access, and I appreciate that they went out of their way to accommodate it and only trimmed the bare minimum required to get access. They also had to remove a section of fence to do the work; at the end, they restored it and also fully cleaned the site. Even used their bucket truck in the wee hours of the morning to see if tarping our damaged roof was an option, which we appreciated. The cost for emergency/after-hours (and holiday) service was not cheap, but the work was very high quality. And while we initially felt a little sticker shock -- fearing our home insurance might balk at the bill -- our insurance actually thought the size of the invoice was appropriate, given the emergency response, complexity, and the equipment that was required. We're very grateful they came to our aid so quickly. They did a good job. We had 3 large trees, a couple of dead trees, and a large branch that had come down in storms that they removed cleanly. They also removed some larger branches that were crowding another tree. The price was good and the workers were friendly and worked quickly. I dinged them one star because one of the branches that was crowding an ornamental tree was only cut back rather than removed. They said they didn't have the right equipment to fully remove it. Perhaps communication between the owner who came out to give us the quote and the work group who came out to do the actual work wasn't quite complete. Not sure. We would have liked it is they had been able to clean up a little more of the debris on our gravel driveway since we have a big event happening on our property in a couple of weeks, but, for the most part, the cleanup was better than expected. They failed to take away branches they'd cut off my trees.....as an almost 81-year-old woman I had to drag them to the curb myself; they damaged my gutter and lacked the professional courtesy of letting me know and making restitution; they sprayed sawdust over my house when cutting a tree down and failed to clean it up; they cut a large branch in my front yard near the street....it fell down during the night when, thankfully, no neighborhood children were playing under it; they failed to cut down a young tree which is now almost dead; and they left a mess of sawdust in the street, the only tree service on my neighborhood that's not cleaned up after itself. I called to complain about all this but have had no response. I could not urge prospective customers more strongly to find a reliable firm! I just now went outside and noticed that a young-ish tree in front of my house had fallen over....dead. Why did the GT arborists not notice that the tree was very ill??!! Beware of this company - do not hire them under any circumstances. We got a quote specifically with the purpose of reducing the height of a tree that is too tall and close to my neighbor's house. After trimming two side branches, they said they could not trim the top "because it could harm the tree". Then why was I still charged 2k? When I complained that the service was not done and I would not pay the full price for what they did, they pointed to the fine print on the contract saying that I am responsible for all legal costs - so I inadvertently signed my rights away. No one looking at the before and after pictures of the tree can tell any work is done on the tree at all. I responded to a mailbox flier and set up an appointment for an estimate. They came by a day earlier and gave us a price. The negotiated price was lower than the initial estimate and was fair. The two crews who worked my property were friendly and professional as I checked on the progress throughout the day. The only advice I might offer is to be very clear on what the work will entail if you aren't familiar with "tree lingo" - for instance what gets left in place, what gets chipped, what size logs you want, if they are to be left or hauled off. John is amazing and a man of his word. They gave me a price over 1k less then the previous estimate I received and knocked out the job immediately. They even trimmed the bottoms of the remaining trees and removed a huge rock in my yard which they didn't have to. I would highly recommend as he was upfront about his opinions and honest about the expectations. John knows more then I do about the trees and probably more then most people- I would just tell him what you are trying to accomplish and then just listen to what he recommends. Here was a huge bush in the front yard the branches were touching the ground. evidently it had been that way long before our son bought the house. It turned out that the bush was an overgrown tree. I contacted a couple of Tree Trimming Services serving the Sterling, Virginia area. While I know some businesses are struggling to make ends meet due to COVID, I felt the initial estimates I was given were out of line for the work needed. Based on that, I stopped seeking estimates until I received GTTS's flyer in the mail, so I called them. John gave me an estimate I felt was very reasonable, and today the Crew, led by Doug, showed up, on time: 5 guys, a cherry picker, and a large chipper. My job was the first of 4 they had (all larger than mine I was told), and this crew, with their equipment, got the job done in 45 minutes. I'm quite satisfied, and I'm so glad I called them. After so many out-of-line estimates, I almost missed finding a tree service that is dependable, reasonably priced, and one that does a hell of a job. Oh, by the way, if you were expecting GTTS to be at your house in the morning on 2/24/22 and they were a little late, I'm the one who should apologize to you. They did an amazing job cleaning up my yard. The yard under the oak tree they were pruning was littered with a lot of tiny pine branches that broke off from adjacent pine trees during a windstorm here in Sterling two days earlier. The large oak branches fell on the pine branches and everything got removed. The final little pieces of tree debris were cleared with rakes and a leaf blower. When they did come the only English speaker spent about a minute going over the job and pointing things out to one crew member who knew some English and then left. They did not communicate well and destroyed trees by cutting pack way more then supposed to. At the same time, guys were cutting other things in another part of my property - NOT as instructed. I had them stop before complete because there was no consideration to ascetics when blindly trimming. Everything was being cut with super speed in mind. John of Green Tops gave a fair quote; and as agreed arrived with full crew two days later, cut away all three trees (climbed up on snow covered roof, and cut up all trees on patio), then cut stumps down to ground level; then returned two days later just as next snow was falling, with two additional pieces of equipment, to clean up and removed all debris. This company placed fliers throughout our neighborhood and I had two trees I needed trimmed and cleaned up. I called their number and left a message providing all of the information they requested including my address and return call number and they never called back. I waited a few days and tried calling one more time and this time spoke with a woman who scheduled an appointment time. they called the night before to reschedule the time - I'm pretty flexible so agreed to the new time. They never showed up, they didn't call - they just blew me off without a concern or care for my time or business. I consider myself lucky. If I had made the mistake to hire these clowns, then who knows what kind of butchery they would have done....It's not that they did a bad job, they didn't do ANY job and treated a potential customer like something they scraped off their shoe. As far as this company goes, stay away - look at the other reviews - this company is probably one of the worst in the area and certainly isn't reliable, accountable or consumer conscientious - let these clowns go out of business because they sure have one crappy service record - I'm glad they never showed up - I'd probably be regretting it like so many of their other misfortunate customers - a total loser company. read more

Don't use this company. Summary: they were late, the lead person on site was rude, and they damaged our landscaping and hardscaping. We had them take down several medium to large trees in our backyard, very close to the house and landscaped areas. Before they began, we asked them to be careful with the landscaping and flagged and fenced areas where they should not damage. They completely disregarded our instruction. They came late (3pm) and seemed to be rushing to finish before sundown. As a result, they were being very sloppy. Rather than cutting limb branches first and then chopping the tree down in pieces, they felled the trees. Mind you, this is in a very tight space where there was no room to fell a full-sized tree. They climbed other trees but cut them down in huge pieces that fell everywhere. As a result, plantings were completely destroyed, temporary fencing to protect delicate plants was pulled out of the way, benches and pots smashed, 5 antique in-ground lights destroyed, and the power was cut to our outside lighting during stump grinding (for which we will need to higher an electrician).
