This place has been around in this location for many years, and the interior has remained pretty much the same. One thing I really appreciate is how consistently clean they keep it. Because of its location, it gets very crowded every weekend around lunchtime. I used to come here about once a month, but I stopped for over a year because the food quality had dropped to below average. There was even one time when some of the hot pot items tasted sour. About a month ago, due to time constraints, I decided to give it another try--and I'm so glad I did. I unexpectedly fell in love with their boba. I personally prefer a softer, more tender texture, and theirs is exactly how I like it. Since I liked the boba so much, I decided to try the food again, and it was a complete turnaround. 01/03/26 Saturday Came for a late lunch around 1 PM. It wasn't very busy. 9/10 - Popcorn Chicken was hot, crispy, and flavorful. I liked that it was only lightly battered. 7/10 - Ginseng Oolong milk tea was kind of bland. More watery than milky. I could not taste the ginseng at all. I chose 70% sweet and it is on the less sweet side. 8/10 - Taro Tango Milk. No customization on the sweetness because it's already in the taro paste. Very creamy and delicious nonetheless. It is also quite filling since it's a heavy drink. Pearls were soft and chewy. Our friend ordered the 3 flavor chicken riceand it came with huge portions. I'd probably get that next time. It's the best bang for your buck. The servers handed us a menu upon entering and took our orders. It seems like TenRen is going through a rebranding of their teas and foods. I haven't been to a TenRen for a long time. Seating was good, it wasn't packed and pretty spacious. Place looks nice, just like the title says, mix of a sports bar and a variety of drinks for non alcoholics. I ordered from them late (around 8:20pm) via Uber Eats for my husband, who was working late. I got the popcorn chicken and pork chop rice. Unfortunately, both meats were overcooked -- very dry and slightly burnt, as if they had been cooked more than once. Came here for a late lunch on a weekday. AS you walk in you see a sign that states to wait by the entrance to be seated. The employee then instructed us to take a seat anywhere. We were given the To Go Menu, a Local Menu, and an Alcohol Menu. The server came back shortly afterwards to take our order. My mom was on a vegetarian diet and wanted to order the Spicy Marinated Mix, but to our disappointment the server notified us that they no longer server the follow Snack items from their menu: Seaweed, Tea Marinated Platter, and Spicy Marinated Mix. We ordered a Large Earl Grey Milk Tea with boba, light ice, and 75% sugar and my go-to boba order is a Large Jasmine Green Milk Tea 75% with less ice. Ten Ren's is and will always be my #1 on my boba tier because I love how you can really taste the quality of their tea in their milk teas. Also, whatever they use for milk mixes so well with their tea, it's unmatched! Food Review: My brother ordered the Pork Chop Rice and gave it a solid 6.5/10. It came with a bowl of egg drop soup, boy choy, curry potatoes, and rice topped with ground pork. He mentioned that the soup was sweet and the pork chop was dry. Personally the color of the pork chop was really dark and looked unappetizing. I ordered the Pork Bone Joy Pot with glass noodles and beef. You have the option to choose your broth, protein, and between glass noodles or rice. It also comes with a BBQ dipping sauce and cilantro/green onions. You can ask for other sauces such as chili oil. Their joy pot broth is made with a butt ton of MSG you can literally taste it. Today it tasted sweeter than normal and I felt like a few of the toppings were missing than before. Their beef is the worst quality I've ever had ngl, the texture is tough and you can see the freezer burn. We asked for more broth as well which comes with no extra charge which I was thankful for but unfortunately the extra broth had no taste. I wish that the toppings were better organized because I felt like I was digging to try to find out what was even in there. Also, I wish there was a better balance of toppings, there was a lot less bean curd this time and too much napa cabbage. A good idea would be to add regular fish balls or even fish cake. I give this a 6/10 since it was sweeter than usual. Service: Service was okay. The servers don't walk around to check in on you, but you can easily get their attention since the cashier is in clear sight and close to the seating area. Ambiance: Area is super chill. There's booths to study, tables to eat, and tables on the side that connect for larger parties. There's TVs for entertainment. A large party came in at the same time as us to have a meeting. Been a fan of Ten Ren for a while now because of their authentic taste. However they could step it up with their service, especially when they ask for a tip at the end. I usually have a fine experience with ten ren, nothing spectacular but nothing horrible, except when this high schooler, Chris, was my server. I ordered a beef noodle soup and when he brought it out, there was no beef in it. I kindly asked him about it but he seemed just as clueless as I was. As a server, I think he should have at least asked the chef about. I'd like to add that his finger was in my soup as well when he brought it out. But I kept that concern to myself because I'm pretty sure his manager was working. Anyways, I don't think I'll be returning. I think it's great that high schoolers are given this opportunity to be servers and earn some money, but Ten Ren should at least hire kids who have experience or deserve the job. I have always loved Ten Ren when Walnut, CA was blessed with its very first one off of Grand Ave over 15 years ago. This location is very close to that one and is much bigger with more seating inside. Every drink that I have ever had from iced coffees, milk teas, fruit teas, and slushies have always been really good. I love their food as well - Ten Ren just speaks to my tastebuds! Not all Ten Rens are the same however, there is one in Orange County and the drink flavors are severely lacking and they don't offer the same drink/food items so beware if you try other Ten Ren stores because I only speak to this one and the other location here in Walnut. This place existed before many of the current/recent boba shops and I still come back for my tried and true Lemon Kumquat Green Tea whenever I'm in the area. Some of my favorite entrees are the pork shredded rice noodle, Chinese spaghetti, 3 flavor chicken rice, combination udon, sausage fried rice, fish ball glass noodle soup. We spent about 35 minutes in the restaurant today and left with our food in containers and frustration over service from Kayla. Attitudes and excuses were thrown, while order sheets were sat on while over 10 people that came in after us were served first. Thankfully, Jackson (supervisor) was there and was able to hear us out on what had happened.. or should I say what did not happen? He was apologetic and was offered us everything we needed to get out of there in time. I hope for improvement at this Ten Ren in the future - maybe emphasize to trainees that are overwhelmed with customers that it's okay to ask for help or to tend to the customers in the order they filtered in. read more
