Patti Green is the best, and her new salon is mellow yet hip and eco-friendly like the East Side (and like Patti). Of course you get the same fantastic haircut and color you got when Patti was at Salon 77 in the Pearl, but with free parking! And one doesn't have to cross the river if one is an east sider. This is not a review of green. the salon, but rather Patti Green, the best hair stylist I've ever had (who is the owner of green.). I haven't had the opportunity to visit green. because I've been living in the middle of the country, but if it's anything like Patti, I'm certain it's fabulous. I cannot explain why Patti's a great stylist, but I'm pretty sure it's because she's smart, she's a good listener, she's really great at cutting hair and she knows style. Before visiting Patti for my hair, I really didn't think there was any hope for me...I was pretty sure I was destined for ho-hum, dull locks for life. Patti's cuts showed me the light, and taught me that I really can have amazing hair. Unfortunately, Patti set the bar so high, all stylists since have been an utter disappointment. I have such high hopes going into other salons, because I now know what could be, but they never achieve the same cuts I'd get with Patti. If I could fly out to have Patti cut my hair every few months, I definitely would. I wish that was possible as every cut I've had in the midwest has been so lackluster in comparison. read more

My Husband and i have had Elys cutting our hair for over a decade. She is great with curly hair. She follows your lead, making sure any drastic changes are exactly what you want. And she gives good advice if she thinks it's a bad idea or something you will regret doing. She is always upbeat and fun to talk to. She gives great head massages. On top of Elys's great quality, the salon and stylists are all committed to doing everything they can to make their place have little effect on the environment. They spent months finding the most environmentally conscious hair products. They used recycled products in their decoration. They have hand towels and low flow toilets in the bathrooms. After years of avoidance, it's time to pop the yelp cherry. Several months ago, I set out on a mission to find a new hair place that was non-toxic, non-judgmental, and just plain rad to replace the old toxic and stale-mate salon I had been going to for years. After much research, I landed on the lovely website of Green. I read through all of the bio's trying to decide who to see and who would not only do a great job on my hair, but take the time to treat me like a human being and rock the conversation like any good stylist should. I couldn't make up my mind, so I took the first available appointment. I am so glad I did. Jena was not only nice, accommodating, and welcoming, she did a fantastic job on my hair from start to finish. She listened to my thoughts about styles for a cut and came up with a great plan for my hair. Next came a fantastic shampoo complete with a scalp massage. The cut was quick and flawless. The conversation stellar--- Jena took the time to ask about me and my interests and made me feel right at home. I also learned a few quick tips for styling my new hair and how to use a diffuser to calm my frizz. Needless to say, I'll be going back. As for the atmosphere at Green, it's warm, yet hip . I brought my husband along and he was promptly offered a beer while he waited for me. We watched a father and son getting haircuts and hugs from their stylist as the son was about to go get his drivers license. The gentleman at the front desk was quick and efficient, checking in with people while they waited making sure everyone was happy and satisfied. Jena is amazing!! This salon is clean, beautiful and everyone here is so sweet! I love that they use all organic, natural hair products and dyes. Jena has done my hair the 2 times I've been here, and she does such an incredible job! My hair has been a very light platinum blonde, and I wanted to bring it down to my natural dirty blonde (with a subtle ombré), which she was able to match perfectly!! She is also very sweet! Becky rules . I recently divorced my longtime hair lady and was looking. I had had bad luck with color jobs in the past. I'm admittedly a really picky hair person. I usually feel Guilty about this even when I'm dropping $200+. Becky FINALLY fixed/accomplished what I've been trying to get for the past forever. She took her time and did some technique besides FOILS to get a true blended ombré result. Everyone befor had given me highlights for sure veering into the dreaded "stripper stripe" territory. This is a great salon. Elys has been nothing but professional, helpful, personable and skilled. I cut my hair off a couple of years ago and I'm so glad I chose Elys! She listened carefully to what I asked for, looked patiently at the plethora of photos and then gave me her assessment of how to achieve the style I wanted. Disappointed. I explained to Beth that I did not like the shape of my current hair style, that it was too heavy at the ends, and I wanted more volume/fullness at the top of my head. (I have shoulder-length wavy hair and what I was asking for has been accomplished previously by stylists in other cities.) Maybe it's my fault that I didn't catch her half-way through and suggest she bring up the layers more and cut it dry, but I don't want to pay to have to orchestrate my whole hair cut. I left with the same hair cut that I arrived with and if I wanted that, I could just go see anyone for $20-30. Instead, this cost me $50+tip and now I have to spend more money to try and find a different stylist who understands how to cut wavy hair. read more

Much like her work on her clients' hair, she has put an equal amount of effort into creating a fantastic salon environment: great colors on the walls, rotating art from local artists, a fantastic magazine selection, beer AND wine offered (not to mention snacks for those who are drinking wine and beer on a just-off-of-work empty stomach), amazingly comfortable, reclining chairs (seriously, better than a lazy boy) and bowls to get your hair washed and head massaged, even a fantastic stapler at the front desk. Not only that but huge kudos for not just naming the salon a catchy, sustainable sounding name without walking the talk. The salon is powered by renewable energy, has a low flow toilet, reclaimed wood used for woodwork, energy efficient appliances where applicable, eco-friendly products and more. Patti is smart. She's smart about hair and she's obviously smart about running a business. Pay Patti a little visit in her luxurious salon and you'll not only be guaranteed one of the best damn cuts and/or color in the city but also a fantastic, engaging conversation. How about that?? I've had two cut and colors with Becky at green. This review details my first experience; the second went just as smoothly and wonderfully. The salon itself is eco-fashionable and gorgeous. I loved the mirrors and the ambiance. The receptionist was polite and nice, if a bit taciturn, and even made a note to remember my umbrella when I asked. My appointment started on time and Becky was friendly and very talented. I asked for a trim of what I currently had and she made a few other suggestions which I took, and the end result was excellent and cute. She took her time and did a wonderful job. The color also came out great. We had a discussion about my shampooing/conditioning regimen and she recommended some changes which I have since implemented. Everything was without judgment and she was perfectly sympathetic. Becky did some talking about the products they carry as well, more in the sense of explaining how she was treating my hair and why she likes the products (and has loved them for the past 6 years). I was initially skeptical because I shy away from anything resembling a sales pitch, but at the end of the experience was just so incredibly pleased with the style, color, and feel of my hair that I ended up purchasing the shampoo, conditioner, and de-frizzer fluid. Most times I get a style my scalp feels a little itchy from the strange (and loads) of product and color and I smell like chemicals for the next day. I walked out of this place feeling great, with an extremely subtle odor of hair color. (Permanent color is always going to smell like something.) I've been using the products for the last couple of days and my hair has been phenomenal! Normally it is very fine and tends to frizz and get lots of flyaways if I don't slather on a lot of defrizz lotion before I head out. With the new products I put on the defrizz fluid on my wet hair, brush and let it air dry, and my hair looks perfect and is incredibly soft without having to throw on more product throughout the day. Amazing. The style looks great and is effortless. The only caveat I'd say is the Davine products are pretty pricey, although quite worth it. The service prices were typical for a salon though. read more

I am possibly the worst hair client to have. When I saw Becky my hair was over processed with bleach highlights and had so many split ends that the breakage had caused my hair to have some dramatic differences in length. To add to making her job "easier" I never know what I want done with it. So I told her to do what she thought best. When she said she wanted to put some red in it, I thought, red, I don't do red. But she explained her plan and I thought, she's the professional, let's do this. And WOW, my hair became amazing. I am in love with the colors she picked and I actually want to add more red now, it looks so good. My hair feels like silk, a huge difference from the dried out tumbleweed it had been. I got a new shampoo, conditioner and split end treatment. This stuff goes a long way. Becky told me how to use every product and that I really just need a little bit, and she's right. She even explained how my hair should feel when washing the conditioner out because I should leave some in. I can tell my money was well spent and that this product will not only last a long time but keep my hair feeling absolutely scrumptious. I am excited to see what Becky does with my hair when it's time to get it trimmed and colored again. After just one time I completely trust her judgement. I told her I wanted something fun and different and in addition to that I have hair that continues to look and feel great days after seeing her. read more

Every time I'm in Portland I try and get an appointment here, and I live in the Bay Area! That should give you some idea of how great this place is. I've had cuts, color and eyebrow waxing done. It was all fantastic and was very reasonably priced. Patty styled the whole place herself and it looks fantastic. I love the products she uses. I would recommend Patty to anyone. I am not at all normally the salon type; Supercuts has met my needs for years. But today I needed something different- I am undergoing chemo, my hair is falling out and I needed a short cut to make the remaining time with my hair pleasant. I felt welcome from the moment I walked in the door. Becky took her time to give me a lovely, short pixie cut that looks wonderful, in a calming, charming facility. My stylist retired last year and I *really* put off finding a new one. I chose green because of the good reviews and because it's close to my office. I don't have much new to say, just that the salon itself is clean and filled with natural light. There is more reading material than I've ever seen outside a library, everything from Bicycle and Outside to WWD and Bloomberg. You're offered tea, coffee, beer or wine as soon as you walk in. I had to go back to work so I passed on the booze, but the coffee was excellent, and they serve it in actual ceramic cups, not paper. I saw Beth and she did a great job. We talked over what I liked about my former stylist, what I wanted to do with my hair at this cut, and in the future. After letting the cut "settle in" for a few days, I can say without reservation that it's great. I have fine curls, and they look awesome - they are well defined and the overall shape of my hair is flattering. I miss my old stylist but I feel like I'm in great hands with green and I look forward to many good haircuts to come. read more

She colors my hair into the perfect shade of red & matches that color seamlessly to the beautiful long lasting extensions she puts in. This salon is great! The decor is very inviting and welcoming. It's lit with a lot of natural light and the colors are a soft green and brown with wood accents. Just the feeling you want from a salon. Everyone was very friendly. I got my eyebrows waxed from Nicole and she was personable. She asked questions to get to know you and knew exactly how my brows should look. I then got my haircut by Becky, she was awesome! She knew so much about hair and how to keep it looking it's best. I went in for a "baby trim" today, and Robin cut my hair. She only took off a little, and gave me a beautiful blowout. The atmosphere is unique and comfortable, I adore the decor. A fantastic spot! Pleasant and welcoming, with a friendly vibe, and missing the overwhelming chemical cloud you walk into in most salons. I found Green when looking for a salon that used more natural products, and was delighted to find that it wasn't just a marketing ploy. A great selection of products, but no hard sell. at all. I came to have a bad color job from my regular guy repaired, but felt so comfortable with Beth, that I ended up getting a lot more color and a haircut as well. Both look fantastic. Though I didn't give a very good description of what I wanted, she was able to get my hair into a great, manageable style much like the one I've imagine my hair could look like, but have never really gotten. I truly respect the products used at Green. Becky is a wonderful color stylist, however I would NOT recommend seeing any other stylist for color at this salon. The other stylists I have visited simply don't seem to have the technical expertise...what you get appears pretty "overdone" and not natural. I have received much more lovely coloring at other salons in Portland and would not use their services again. Nothing special. read more
