My daughter had her birthday party here with a small group of friends. They made a clay project of Bluey. Each one had a blast and enjoyed their time in the studio. From start to finish, Emma was great with communication in planning. She texted over project options with paintings or clay art. My daughter chose clay and Emma sent over photos of sample projects she could choose from. My daughter asked to do a "Bluey" clay art project and I thought to ask even though I didn't see any samples in the studio. Emma asked for an image and within a few days they created one for the guests to replicate. That was appreciated as my daughter and her guests love Bluey and were so tickled to be able to make one. We did have a hiccup on the day of the party but Emma, her studio manager and staff were able to accommodate everything without batting an eyelash! I appreciated their flexibility and ability to pivot flawlessly. The staff were so helpful with setup and always making sure everyone had what they needed. They took care of cleaning up the space, and disposing of any party remnants for us at the end of the event. Our instructor was so friendly and talented. She went around to help any of the guests who needed assistance on their project. Emma was so friendly and thoughtful. She made sure there were personal touches and made sure each guest felt special. She checked on us frequently during the event as well. My daughter loved it and so did her friends. I wouldn't hesitate to hold another birthday party here again. What a wonderful enrichment program! The staff are friendly (thank you Ms. Lynette), educated in the various forms of art, and know how to encourage the children to give it their best effort. You'll be amazed what your little ones can produce given the right environment and coaching. They experience with various mediums including paintings, pencil sketches, and clay. Give the trial class a shot and see for yourself! Once you're engaged, you'll have the option of a 10 or 22 week program. They also have two different age groups for the classes (5-8 year olds and 8+ year olds). The classes are typically an hour and a half and parents are encouraged not to hover. Go home, take a walk, venture to the nearby mall and grab a cream roll from Balkh. The parking lot is plentiful so you should have no problem getting a spot. It might be tight and busy but the churn is quick. They also host birthday parties so if you're looking for a place to host clay art party for your child, see if they fit your plans! I've been a student attending this studio both as a child and later, more regularly, as a teen up until now. I believe that the classes for children are particularly helpful because you're able to experiment with a lot of different media. The variety of materials that you have access to has also increased over the years. Many of the teachers are more knowledgable in more fine arts areas, but there is also a portfolio class oriented towards comic work, worldbuilding, and character design if you're interested in that. When I started taking the teen-oriented classes, there was a lot less guidance from the teachers about my technique, and there wasn't a lot of guidance on how to think critically to create more interesting compositions. I remember struggling to create my own unique artworks for awhile before my interest in art increased and I started studying at home using the internet. This is basically my only reason for my four star review. I think it would be beneficial for older students to be encouraged to make their own artworks using multiple references rather than copying a single photo. David's portfolio class has been particularly helpful for me as I applied to a few different art schools. Because I'm interested in original character work, he helped me learn about different artists, techniques in visual cues and design, and telling stories through art. His advice has been invaluable to me and I've greatly appreciated that he taught me that cartooning is just as valuable as traditional artwork. Ms. Emma herself is very nice and often notifies me of new contests and learning opportunities. Overall I've had a pleasant experience with the studio! read more

She enrolled- in since 4 yrs old studied with Teacher Linnette, then studying online with Teacher Dane till now. She enjoys the art lessons because both teachers are friendly, patient and professional. From Dane's class, my granddaughter learns a lot of drawing skills such as pencil sketch, color matching for watercolor painting or oil painting, pastel painting and even clay sculpture, to progress her painting techniques. My 6 and 9 year old daughters have been going to Green Forest Art Studio for more than five years. I also joined the adult class since last year. My daughter was invited to a birthday party that was held here. When we arrived, we were escorted to a different door. The front had a sofa with a small table on the other side. The host had food arranged on that table and we were told to walk down the hall. Down the hall was another table where kids would be decorating their ceramic figurine. It was a 2-hour event and the kids had 1.5 hours to decorate. While the kids decorated their figurine, the parents patiently waited on the side. To be honest, the event felt very long. There was no interaction between the teacher and the kids and once in a while, the assistant would randomly talk about her personal life events. After the kids were done decorating, we were told that they'll need to bake the figurines so the exterior would look shiny. Well, it's almost 2 weeks now, I still haven't seen my daughter's figurine. read more

I'm so glad to have found this art studio. Both my daughters, 12 and 7 years of age come here for lessons. I myself have even attended a couple of adult classes. I remember when my older daughter came home with her first painting from a free trial class. I was amazed by how beautiful it was. It didn't look like a child's first painting. I immediately enrolled her into weekly classes because she enjoyed it so much and a couple months later, I enrolled my younger daughter. The teachers are extremely talented and good at teaching young and older children alike. They are patient and teach with good humor. Each week when my daughters come home from class, I find myself looking forward to being surprised by yet another beautiful piece of art, be it a detailed acrylic canvas, a gracefully flowing water color painting, an amazingly detailed pencil sketch, pastel, or even clay sculptures. They teach the children how to use all mediums of art, starting with the basics. Friends and family alike have been requesting pieces of my children's work and I've even been giving some away as Christmas presents to teachers. Although they have only attended for a little over a year, I'm amazed at how much they've grown in their skill and creativity. Recently I even threw a birthday party for my older daughter here. Standard pricing of $350 for 10 kids. The wonderful part is that if you don't have enough kids, the adults are welcome to join as a participant. All the kids had such fun. Their schedule is quite flexible, you can go any time that works for you. And you can miss couple classes and just resume. The staffs are very friendly and knowledgable. The best teacher, Emma, is my daughter's favorite. We travel from San Leandro to go to her art class. Even when we moved to San Jose, we still made trips to her art classes. First of all I'm not really sure why the reviews say that Emma is very nice and helpful, our experience was very much different. My daughter and a friend said that Emma was not helpful or friendly, in fact rude to them. I signed up my daughter because she did a trial class with a friend and came home with a really nice painting on a canvas and I thought wow really good art school. Not at all the case. After signing my daughter up for 10 week class and also referred others here, only to find they too had the same complaints I did. Here are some: 1. No help at all from the people there (only from Miss Brandi and another blonde girl I don't know her name because we only saw her twice) and totally ignored by miss Simone. 2. Running out of certain colors(uh...I thought his was an art school???) 3. Instead of giving tips or guidance they just take over your painting 4. If you finish your painting too fast they say you cannot do any more paining on canvas You have to do water color, etc....or bring your own canvas *Your child will come home with a nice painting and parents think this must be a really great art school but in fact your child is just a really good artist on their own! Bottom line is if you are going to call yourself an art school there needs to be some Kind of instruction/guidance to become a better artist Other wise you are sending your child to just sit there and paint on their own. Save yourself $270 dollars and go some where else or better yet buy your own supplies and do it yourself at home. read more
