I've been taking my 4 years old daughter to the toddler class for a few months now. She loved it and always look forward to it. Teacher Vivienne is very creative and patient. Highly recommended!

We had to take a break earlier this year because of her swim schedule, but she was always excited whenever she was able to go. This summer, we signed her up for a week of summer camp, and she had so much fun. They worked on different projects each day, and she was always excited to tell us about what she made. Ms. Roopali is very kind, patient, and really knows how to work with kids of different ages. I always feel like when your child looks forward to going somewhere, it says a lot about the class, the teacher, and the environment. We've had such a great experience and would definitely recommend her classes.

From start to finish, Emma was great with communication in planning. She texted over project options with paintings or clay art. My daughter chose clay and Emma sent over photos of sample projects she could choose from. My daughter asked to do a "Bluey" clay art project and I thought to ask even though I didn't see any samples in the studio. Emma asked for an image and within a few days they created one for the guests to replicate. That was appreciated as my daughter and her guests love Bluey and were so tickled to be able to make one. We did have a hiccup on the day of the party but Emma, her studio manager and staff were able to accommodate everything without batting an eyelash! I appreciated their flexibility and ability to pivot flawlessly. The staff were so helpful with setup and always making sure everyone had what they needed. They took care of cleaning up the space, and disposing of any party remnants for us at the end of the event. Our instructor was so friendly and talented. She went around to help any of the guests who needed assistance on their project. Emma was so friendly and thoughtful. She made sure there were personal touches and made sure each guest felt special. She checked on us frequently during the event as well. My daughter loved it and so did her friends. I wouldn't hesitate to hold another birthday party here again. Thank you to Emma, our instructor, the studio manager and the staff!!

I came in with a love for art, but little knowledge in the technical aspects. Through Ichen's summer programs, I got to explore many different media including charcoal, oil painting, and digital. The academy's instructors are very well educated in the arts and provide a plethora of resources and materials to help me succeed. They provided guidance in composition, technique, color, etc. while motivating me to enter my art into competitions... ultimately which I won a few! Ryan, Ichen Art Academy's Artist in Residence, has provided me with fantastic support over the years. I got a perfect balance of instruction and freedom to allow for the full expression of my artistry. I never felt bored or unmotivated because the instructors constantly provide me with ideas and recommendations when I'm stuck. My AP and college application portfolios both contributed largely to my successful MIT application process, and I am forever indebted to my time at Ichen for this accomplishment.

Initially, many years ago, we researched several art schools in the Bay Area, specifically in the South Bay, and even tried out a local one near our home for a year (and discovered the instruction was limited). Then we came upon Ichen Art Academy in Fremont, CA. Both our girls have always been creative but needed more instruction on art techniques and development. A major attraction to their art program was the variety of lessons provided to enrich one's mind to the world of art. Ichen Art provided classes on Sketching, Charcoal Drawing, Watercolor, Oil Painting, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, and Digital Art. Our daughters took the foundational sketching class, which provided a very good opportunity to build one's art skills. The classes and programs offered are very structured and well organized. Their Fremont office manager, Jessica, has been very helpful with scheduling and class registration questions. In addition, not only is Ms. Ichen Wu (founder and principal) one of the instructors, Ichen Art also provides various specialized instructors for the art class offerings, from sketching to watercolor painting to oil painting to digital art to Chinese calligraphy, etc. It was very beneficial to see and learn art from various forms and perspectives. Besides providing art classes, Ichen Art also provides other opportunities for students to enrich their art potential and personal development. They work closely with the Youth Art Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps provide art students leadership training and development (in which our oldest daughter is the student Director of Art). Ichen Art also invites art models to come in and pose for live body art sculpture drawing lessons. Ichen Art has also helped students participate and submit their work of art to various local and national art competitions, where several students have earned top awards, including our oldest daughter. Their various instructors also act as counselors/consultants to help with questions and guidance for the students. Our daughter's oil painting instructor, Ryan, has shared some great advice and guidance on painting perspectives and creating a portfolio. The academy also host seminars and webinars for students and parents that cover topics on developing art portfolios and college preparation. Our oldest daughter in high school developed an interest in fashion design and Ms. Wu set up fashion design lessons with a local instructor, which eventually led to the development of a summer fashion design program at the academy (and our daughter became a teacher assistant/co-instructor for the program). The time invested in the Ichen Art Academy lessons and classes for our daughters have been very positive. Our oldest daughter's interest in fashion design has led to her college pursuits having been accepted to the #1 fashion school in the US. Overall, if you are looking for a great comprehensive art program with very positive results, check out Ichen Art Academy.

Steve & Kate's is open long hours, which is perfect for us busy parents. They offer such a huge variety of activities, and they even provide lunch--so no more packing lunches every morning! This is the third year my boys, ages 6 and 8, have attended summer camp here. They absolutely love seeing some of the same camp counselors each year. Even though they've been to other camps together like art camp, several sports camps, and exclusive club camps, Steve & Kate's is the one camp they ask to go back to every year. We also really appreciate that they aren't separated by age. At other camps, even a small age difference would mean they couldn't be together, but here, they get to hang out and play together all day. My athletic son is obsessed with playing gaga ball--something he's only found at Steve & Kate's. He also loves playing basketball, table tennis, and foosball there. My other son, who's super into art, learned how to sew at camp. He made a bunch of cool stuff and loved it so much that we even pulled out our sewing machine at home to work on projects together. What's awesome is the free play aspect--my kids love that there isn't a set schedule, so they can do whatever they want. They also really enjoy going outside and playing. The staff is fantastic, always making sure the kids are having fun and are well taken care of. The director, Joshua, is so fabulous. It's obvious that he really enjoys his job and helps the kids have a fun and memorable summer. I've seen my kids grow in confidence and make so many friends. And we can't forget about the last day of camp--it's a HUGE carnival! My kids raved about it well into the school year. My youngest was so inspired by the different games and prizes that he ended up having a carnival-themed birthday party and made his own carnival games. Another great thing about Steve & Kate's is the flexibility. You don't need to book the camp months ahead of time--you can just sign up the night before and you're good to go. Plus, you don't need to commit to the entire week, which is perfect if you just want to send the kids for a couple of days during the week. I tell all parents about Steve & Kate's and how amazing it is. Also, if your company offers Bright Horizons, definitely take advantage of it--it's such a great combo with this camp. Highly recommend!

They always provide many various choices of games and activities for the little kids, while barely any options are there for the older ones. For instance: Everything is always divided by age groups, therefore older kids get less opportunities to do the activities they want to pursue. The staff prefer younger children, and barely try to focus any of their attention on the older kids, which gives the preteens less of a chance to participate in any activities that should be included for kids of all ages. They also tend to let out younger kids first for kick-off and lunch, while leaving the older kids to stay in the gym, or stay hungry. For lunch release, they have a separate lunchtime for the younger campers, while having the older ones wait over thirty minutes to get their lunch. An example of this happened with my kid: a counselor ignored her requests for lunch, [despite them dropping things immediately if a younger camper was hungry] getting upset with her when she and other kids continued to ask politely for food out of hunger (she skipped breakfast and forgot to pack a lunch), they wouldn't let her into the main lunchroom to check her backpack for possible snacks because it was the younger kids' lunchtime. To add on: The staff give everyone the same, small amounts of food, even if some campers are hungry and need to be treated with equity, they do not do so, as they only allow small portions of food for older kids if they want seconds, while younger ones get bigger amounts. All because the older kids don't need it "as much as the younger kids do." Secondly: Everything is always divided by age groups, therefore older kids get less opportunities to do the activities they want to pursue. The staff prefer younger children, and barely try to focus any of their attention on the older kids, which gives the preteens less of a chance to participate in any activities that should be included for kids of all ages. Even though they may claim to have certain events for the older kids [as they do for the younger kids as well] in the camp, in actuality, the camp does lack them. To conclude: This camp really needs to manage everything better as well as caring more about the older kids, treating them with equal respect, and being equitable when it comes to their needs.
