CalColor Academy - Art Classes Near Me - Fremont, California

My daughter has been learning at CalColor Academy for 11 years--it has been a major part of her life. Recently, her mixed media piece received a National Silver Medal from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. CalColor has done a wonderful job of nurturing her interest in art and helping it grow stronger over the years. All of the teachers she has had along the way have been incredibly encouraging. In recent years, Mr. Sean has made every project student-centered, thoughtfully suggesting ideas that help students develop their skills. In the PD classes, Mr. Alvin consistently provides focused, individualized feedback that supports each student's growth. Choosing CalColor to begin her art journey has truly been one of the best decisions we've made. read more

Calcolor is unique among art schools in terms of fostering creativity. My daughter's teacher Ms. Ariana is good at inspiring students by setting up the topics, looking for references, coming up with thumbnails, and polishing the artwork to its best quality. I am happy that my daughter learned how to think professionally as an artist. It takes 25 minutes to drive my daughter to school. My daughter told me she learned a lot from the conversation with the teacher so it's worth it! read more

I rarely left review on Yelp unless the business is really good. CalColor Academy rolled out its first adult art class last year, and the leading teacher was Mr. Justin, who specialized in watercolor- probably the most difficult painting technique I've always wanted to learn. There were only a few spots open for the first adult class, and I was lucky to get one. Within a 2hrs-only class, Mr. Justin did not waste any minute to teach us (mostly beginners) the most critical technique to observe the objects and how to use watercolor bring the object alive on our artwork. Everyone was so proud of their artwork at the end. The entire class was also like a art therapy, fun and very relaxing after a long day at work. Plus, I'd also like to recommend the site manager, Yishu. She's very responsive and paitent when answering my registration and class information. In sum, I highly recommend CalColor for its profession in arts and passion in teaching. read more

Great place for kids to learn art! The teachers are extremely patient and knowledgeable. The courses are well designed. There is something akin to syllabus at the end of previous quarter that illustrates what to be taught in the next quarter. The kids can learn/get exposure to various different styles of arts. My daughter loves this place, and her drawing skills had shown significant improvement since she started the classes a few months ago. Ms Yishu is one of her favorite teachers! read more

I would give CalColor five stars. My brother and I went to the summer camp last week. CalColor is a very kid-friendly art school. The classes you take during summer camp are set by ages. I took the digital art and anime/manga art. My brother took the oil painting and the clay class. The teachers are all very nice and they are patient. Kids can have a good time when their teachers are nice to them. Our experience with this art class was pretty good. I was able to learn how to use Photoshop in about two days. My little brother finished a very big canvas and a couple little clay sculptures. Because the clay needs to be fired up, you need to go back to the place to pick up the clay. Lunch is provided. The lunch comes in 3-4 party trays and you pick what you want and the teacher will put it on your plate. Their is a different variety every day of the week. Their is a snack time in the middle of class. Chips and juice is provided. Their prices are excellent. The more people you go with, the bigger discount you get. I went with my brother (obviously), my best friend, and a girl from my brother's school. So there was a pretty big discount. I also think that it is very cute and encouraging how the teachers refer to the kids as "My Artists". If you are looking for a good summer camp, CalColor is the best place to go. read more

I registered for a week of summer camp for my 10-yr son, since he want something "clay". The week he enrolled has 4 half day clay activity and the rest of the time is mostly oil painting. It turns out that he enjoyed it a lot. They did both classic clay and air dry clay and brought home what they made. He talked about their activities excitedly everyday of that week. It's a good camp and we will come back for other classes in the future! read more

Ligang reached out to us and offered a month of lessons for our kid. So far we are pretty impressed with the lessons and the curriculum they offer. Their make up policy is pretty good for missed classes. We tried both in person and zoom lessons and both were pretty good. The teacher parent communication is very good and parents are well informed about the subsequent lesson plans. read more

My daughter has been to Calcolor for almost two years. Art class there is still one of her favorite activities among all her after-school routines. I heard of Calcolor from a friend during a casual chat, and was instantly hooked once I talked with Ms. Lan, the school director, about her philosophy of children art education. I was not looking for a place focusing on teaching children techniques on how to draw, rather a place to liberate the splendid world in their eyes and from their inner world. It is our fortune, and the fortune of those who enroll at Calcolor, that the artist instructors there are all talented, passionate and caring. When an artist brings her experiences onto the podium, she projects her feelings among the students, and that can have a strong effect because art, being such a medium as it is, can affect you all your life. My daughter started her art class at 5, an age with openness to any experience that might enrich her understanding of art, embraced such disparate art forms including drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay sculpture. Now she is embarking on a journal to a new realm of art exploration. Calcolor is still our choice to present just about as much art experience as possible to her. read more

We've been very pleased with CalColor Academy. This is the second summer that we've sent our daughter to summer camp there. She always has a blast there. My daughter began her class when she was 5 years old.She like her dawing class teacher Ms Yishu. I give 5 stars for this school！

I am sitting at CalColor writing this review. Took my 5 years old here for a trial. We got to the door for the class a couple minutes behind. I wanted my kid to get in class right away. My first impression of the place is typical Asian business that offer unprofessional and low quality service. As I walked in, there was a kid (her son?) sitting at the computer and just stared at me. I was looking for someone to greet me or instruct me where to go or what to do. Then I asked the parent sitting in the waiting room if she knows where the front desk person went and she was standing outside the door talking to a client on the phone that I walked by when I entered the door. I made sure to give her my eye contact. She saw me but just ignored me. She didn't give me any signal to acknowledge she saw me and will get to me or what not. Then I saw the classroom door was open with little kids and class was about to start. Assuming that was the class and I approached closer to the door. Unexpectedly, the instructor shut the door on me and my son. I didn't get a chance to say anything. I waited for at least 10 minutes constantly staring at the person on the phone. Then the front desk person returned to her desk but she couldn't tell the client on the phone to hold so she can ask me if I needed something or tell me she would be right with me. After she's done with her phone call, she spent a good amount of time helping that little kid behind the desk with something that must be more important than me as a customer. I watched her and await for her eye contact again but cold nothing. I was this close to walk out the door. Then she finally greeted me and asked if I needed help. Then I told her I need to put my son in the trial class but no one showed me where to go and now we're late. She said, "oh, sorry! It's ok." Then she called my son to get in class right away. She entered the classroom and told the instructor that there's one more student. They haven't started on anything yet except having a white paper. When my son reached the door, the instructor said to him, "class started 15 minutes ago, ok." I don't want to be harsh, but I don't feel the love here at all. My kid is 5 years old. The instructor couldn't say a happy hi but rather pressured him that he was 15 minutes late (when he was there but couldn't come in)? I don't know if I want my kid to go here. read more
