How do I get in touch with them to start dance classes? I have tried emailing them several times but no one responds!!

How do dance workshops work? Pre-requisites on the website say no prior dance experience to students with dance backgrounds are all welcome. How do they split the 90min session between basic teaching/steps/final performance or something else?

The Positives that kept me re enrolling for 6 years: Staff: I always loved the staff especially the person who always helped fit my daughter dance shoes. They were friendly and always responded to questions. Location: Close and easier to find drop off in a safe neighborhood. The Costumes: For the Most part the costumes are beautiful and it even got better this past year end performance. The staff puts a lot of thought into this. Dance Teachers: kids friendly not strict at all (could be good or bad) The Venue:Santa Clara convention center is a great venue. Many other dance studios can't afford this size venue. Negatives: Repetitive program. You will hear the same songs after 2 years. Simple moves: If you are not in the comp team, you won't learn much after 2 yrs. My daughter said 3 years ago, she learned 3 new moves, 2 years ago she learned 1 new move. Last year she didn't learn ANY new moves. Now as I search for other dance studios, she's already behind for her age group for non comp classes. It's hard to continue paying increasing fees without seeing progress. All I wait for is one fancy year end show with beautiful costumes.... I hope they hire new dance teachers that can dance like their star comp team girls.

It wasn't until I moved away from the South Bay and trained at other gyms that I fully appreciated how special Smash is. While other gyms are good, they simply don't compare to the experience I had with Coach Rudi, Jose, Tristan, and the rest of the team. If I ever move back to the South Bay, or even just visit, I'll definitely drop by for a session.

I want to recommend Ms. Zhanna Shpits to every one who might have any musical/songwriting needs to be accomplished, and who would like to create their legacy song for their business or themselves or both. I've met Zhanna recently and quite by accident but now I surely may say the Universe brought us together. Our first encounter happened over the phone and while talking and discussing musical and early childhood education, I kind of mentioned my dream to have my OWN special song designated just for our Step by Step CC & Preschool that I have been running for over 17 years now. Zhanna had immediately responded with such enthusiasm that I knew right away it would happen and my modest dream I'd kept to myself for many years would come true. To work and communicate with Zhanna isn't just easy and pleasant but so much more. Everyone may listen but not everyone can hear and understand. Zhanna can. She's truly a beautiful Person inside and out, intelligent, educated, with a wide range of knowledge, very wise, and don't forget she's a talented musician, singer, songwriter. And all these qualities she gladly shares with people around her. The first time I heard the Step by Step Signature Song I didn't even try to fight my tears back. The song is so beautiful and touching. It reflects my own soul and the spirit of my place created for the children and the families. Zhanna truly understood everything about us and what we do, and she did her best creating this song. The music, the lyrics, the vocals came perfectly together! I'm so grateful to Zhanna because now my dream not only came true but has the voice and sound of its own. Although the Step by Step song still awaits its official public presentation that's coming in a few weeks, many plans are already made. This is a legacy song that our kids will be singing at yearly graduations and other school events, the song will be added to our website and the work on the slideshow with the song accompaniment has begun. --

She heard my vocals and was instantly able to prescribe scales and practice drills that catered to my specific needs. In 3months time, Liezl and the Pnc family has helped me develop my lower range, free up tension in my higher range, and even find new layers to my vocal style. What I like most about Liezl beyond her technical skills is that she is an artist herself. She understands the struggle, fear and anxiety that comes with pursuing your dreams and encourages you to overcome yours.

I cannot recommend this dance studio for parents looking to lift up young girls…read more My daughter was interested in Kpop dancing, and is in an awkward bubble age of being too old (~10) for the "mini" class and at the cusp of too young for the"Junior" pre-teen class. She definitely isn't a great dancer, but she practices and tries her hardest. This is just a fun class for girls, not elite or comp. Things started off well but then she started leaving with tears in her eyes. She says that the teacher was leaving her out of the routine and so she was sitting around most of the time, not understanding why. No explanation. I urgently asked for a callback to understand the situation. No callback. I asked the teacher, Mr Garret, next week in person. He says she wasn't getting it but he would include her more. I asked him to speak to her about her so she could feel supported and understand and how she can improve. He says he didn't have time to talk to her and said he would next week. He never did. Not excusable. My daughter continued to come back with tears in her eyes. She says that 2 other girls were giggling and laughing when she made a mistake. She didn't want to make a fuss or quit before the performance. The performance came, and she fell behind in the rehearsal. She told me a few days later that everyone laughed at her. She just did box breathing to focus and did great in the performance. It was a proud moment for our family. *I then receive an email saying that she needs to go to the class where she is overaged OR just take the SAME class but on a different day to free up space for a better dance*. Reason: she wasn't dancing well enough; wasn't fitting in socially; the class was "full" and she's kicked out. Wait, she's still being invited to the same skill but on a different day despite being a bad dancer? I was shocked and disappointed. Instead of optimizing for the culture of the class, they instead optimize against the student for not fitting in. She's not a great dancer, but she's young, tried hard, and was trying to fit in even with tears in her eyes every day. We have dropped Purdance with no hesitation and she now uses her experience as her way of being able to hold her breath to perform amidst an unsupportive environment.

For the most part, it seems that the better dancers were trained elsewhere and not at this place. Another problem that we have come across is that the teachers seem to have favorites among the students and disproportionately focus on them. This can be more demoralizing for the other children who want to learn. Moreover, the studio has a permanent cat, which presented allergy complications for our daughter. Though they started this problem with an air purifier, it didn't work and finally we had to take her out. In general, this school would probably be suitable only for kids who want a more fun filled and less structured approach experience. Parents who are looking for serious training or an all round environment should opt for another school.

Then came covid in 2020 and I stopped dancing entirely up until 2024 where I had to start over again and luckily I found Hermosura Dance Productions (HDP). I've been taking bachata classes at HDP for about 6-7 months now and I must say that Helen is a fantastic teacher! She focuses on building a strong foundation to make you a better dancer which other schools just don't teach which I wish I had engrained in me when I first started dancing. On top of the fundamentals, Helen teaches nice patterns that allow you to dance with people of different levels (as a leader, this has been great!). She also provides constructive feedback during class to help you improve your dancing as well as understand how it is danced (e.g. in bachata you are pushing the floor with your feet). I highly recommend going to HDP for classes or tailored lessons, depending on your needs. Helen teaches many styles of dance from salsa on 1 (and on 2), cumbia, bachata, and rueda. Her skills of observation are on another level (truly, come see for yourself!) and her instruction is accessible to anyone, new or seasoned. Group classes are safe and supportive spaces where all are welcome; I always leave feeling inspired to continue learning, excited for what we'll do in the next class. Even transitioning to Intermediate/Advanced (you can take Beginner and Int./Adv. together, I just preferred to master the basics first), I didn't feel out of place for a minute. Everyone comes with a great attitude, led by our fearless leader Helen, who never fails to bring positive energy to the group. Finding joy in dance is easy at Hermosura Dance Productions. If you're debating whether to try it out, this is your sign; you won't regret it!
