This was first structured dancing class for my 3.5 years old daughter. I was bit skeptical about she will do in the class but right from first class, all my doubts were dispelled. She thoroughly enjoyed all her classes, in-fact she looked forward to attending them every weekend. Her instructor, Anya was pretty great in ice-breakers and getting all kids interested in dancing. My daughter's final day stage performance was pure joy to watch. I am happy that she had great time learning and performing. read more

May be good for teen agers but certainly not recommended for young kids (1) kids safety issues that can really injure a kid it is not taken seriously enough, sharp stuff lying on floor where kids walk in bear foot and no one in staff seems to be serious enough to take immediate action even after you draw their attention. (2) Some young kids may get afraid after seeing an environment where instructor scolds one or another kid (3) kids standing shivering outside for half an hour just to know they were asked to come at earlier time (4) there is no proper lost and found option, if kids forget no one answers properly This company will nickel and dime parents for everything once you sign up. Also, before making decision to join your kid any dance company, please go and see their shows for your child's age group, don't rely on YouTube videos or promotion material or words. It's human nature that every parent will tell you dance company where their kid goes is great. My personal opinion there are several dance companies where younger kids do much better job while teenagers are choreographed well here. read more

Okay, here's a simpler review for Gurus Of Dance, based on your feedback: We really love Gurus Of Dance for Bollywood classes in the Bay Area! Our daughter goes there, and it's been great. We get reports at the end of each semester that clearly show us how she's doing and how much she's learned. It's super helpful to see her progress. Our daughter already loved to dance, and Gurus Of Dance has made her love it even more. They do a fantastic job of encouraging her passion. We're happy with everything from the very start - signing up was easy, the practice classes are good, and the performances they put on are amazing. Seeing our daughter on stage is wonderful! My daughter was enrolled in the performance session last year and at first it seemed good but I quickly realized that the teacher herself was a teen who Dosent really have a full grasp of how to teach. You may know how to dance but that Dosent always translate into being a good dance teacher. I am not blaming the teacher, but the company itself who thinks it's alright to take money from people to have a child teach their children. They didn't make sure that everyone knew the dance (there were a handful of kids in my child's class who had no clue on stage), they didn't make sure it was somewhat synchronized (again, ages 5-8, but when everyone starts separately ,!it's not their fault, it's the teachers.) The biggest downside was the organization of performance itself. I was a volunteer and was told each class would have two parents (makes sense since if one child had to go to the bathroom, there should be another parent with the other children at their seats...) but I was the only one, running back and forth, with no one telling me what the check out policy or anything was...I basically had to wait for the parents to come to me and made sure the kids recognized their parent and let them go..which , as a parent, I would feel very uneasy about with small kids (ages 5-8). I had to multiple times take a few kids out to go to the restroom during performances, leaving half the class inside hoping none of them run or walk away. Again, it's run by teenagers so really, how can you expect them to take care of other kids. I wouldn't have minded if my child was older but for small kids, no.. it was a shit show. I really wanted to like them but I wouldnt put my child in a class again, unless she is older and even then, depends on who's teaching the class. read more

Very unprofessional behavior. My kid is going to 6-8 beginners class here. I came here for scheduled class today and got to know the class is canceled. The instructor posted it in front of me on facebook that there is no class today due to spring break. I would like to understand why can't they be responsible and mindful enough of others time and post such things in advance or better send an email in advance. Is that too hard? On the website, it was written New Students - $5 and for other students $69 instead of $79. It was written that new students will pay $79 but once it is decided that they are NEW, the money will be refunded except for $5. But they did refund me only $10 i.e. my daughter was charged $69 just like everyone else. They texted me at 12:03 am at night to tell me that my daughter's class has been canceled and I have to enroll in another class. The dance teacher was good and professional. But the administrative part of this company is horrible and unethical. read more

Our both kids are part of G-squad at Gurus of Dance. It's a great school for learning Bollywood dance style. The owner, Aditya Patel is great dancer and very passionate about his work. He has a good way of teaching young kids and they all learn and respect him as a guru. Both of our kids have learnt a lot here. Kids/Students put up a great performance twice a year at the show. Aditya is personally involved in training kids. He understands each kid's potential and always pushes them to become better and deliver the best of their abilities. The management and logistics especially in and around show time can use some improvement but overall we are very happy to be part of this group. read more

Stay Away! This is the most absurd and fraud dance institution anywhere! I registered my child who is a boy in a dance class and they chose a classical female song. I requested them to be mindful of kids gender, they responded that I registered too late and they already decided the song. They refused to refund and just issued the credit for a future class. I registered again and in advance, this time they again picked a female item song and gave the excuse that they pick songs 4 weeks in advance, which they did not tell me the first time. So they basically lied. When I asked for refund, they kept $25 as refund fee. It's a group of amateur, unprofessional and rude folks running classes with no regards to parents choices or kids interests, and they charge you for disagreeing with them. Their policies are no where listed or apparent on their site or during checkout. My child has attended classes in other places, and every place takes children's preferences into consideration and respect diversity rather than defrauding students and parents. Don't ever select this institution if you want you child to have fun classes. Very disappointing experience. read more

This turned out to be a bad deal. Put my daughter in the beginning class (age 15). The coreographer had some of the worst moves. In one part of the song, he manged to incorporate the chicken dance. It was just bad all around. Waste of our money. read more

These folks are completely unethical. I asked for a refund before my kids started any classes. After no response, I then call my credit card company to start a dispute. It seems they saw this to be a problem and finally contacted me and said they would refund. Foolishly, I trusted these crooks and removed the dispute, but these thieves didn't just keep the initial charges, but they then charged another $448! Why? Why do something so unethical! read more

I've been dancing for over 15 years all around the bay, however I keep coming back here for the people. Sure, the dancing is great and there is a lot of opportunity to learn new things and challenge yourself, but I absolutely just love being around this crowd. With out any doubt, gurusofdance has best choreographers. Here are some.umprovement areas- 1) First 4 classes that were taught were not related to performance dance and as a new student, wasnt aware of this during signup. Would have joined only sessions related to dance performance if I could have known ahead. 2) Instructors could have done much better job by prepping for dance steps ahead.of class than during the class time. They may have prepped ahead but most classes seemed like trial and error during class.time. So planning ahead by Instructors is very much a requirement and expectation from students. 3) Several changes in choreo and the positioning was not finalized until last class.of the day. As much as we expect students need to pick up these.ongling changes, instructor can.do better job in being systematic with their.plan. 4) It is no doubt a fun class but opportunity for instructors to be bit more mindful regarding comments made on students. Although they are all made in a jolly mood, and students enjoy getting challenged, there is a thin line that we need to be mindful off :-). 5) I had 3-4 emails asking for invoice from gurusof dance team and there was.no follow-up response..not sure why would that be such a difficult ask. Overall, enjoyed my dance time with dance buddies and look forward to more fun time at gurusofdance. read more

My son and daughter had been taking Bollywood classes from Gurus of Dance for the past 6 years. Aditya is an amazing instructor, so are Candice, Smitha, Sonia and the rest of the crew. They teach various forms of dance every quarter, giving kids exposure to different cultures across India. Aditya keeps pushing kids to work harder and get better. In my kids' words "He wouldn't settle for good or great, he demands excellence." And they absolutely love him. The instructors come up with stunning choreography for every dance. Kids get to perform in very prestigious events like the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the Fremont Ganesh Festival, and various popular concerts. This has improved their overall confidence levels. My daughter who was initially nervous on the stage, over the years became so confident that now she can do stand up comedy all by herself to a large audience. The dance routines, instructors, shows, costumes... all of these deserve 5 stars. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because of the hassle of driving kids to San Jose every weekend. They used to have classes in Dublin, however recently they have moved majority of the advanced/gSquad classes to San Jose. read more

Great place to pick up Bollywood moves. The 2 student shows every year are simply a treat to the eyes. Great colorful costumes by Candice. Fantastic choice of songs. Kids learn to be accountable for themselves. Aditya holds everybody to high standards. It makes the kids resilient. Students also have a lot of fun. It is not all work, no play situation. They have their fair share of bonding and camaraderie. Choice of songs is totally praiseworthy. The finale is always on a very recent song. The creative director joins for a bit in the finale. It's good for new audiences to watch him in action. He is a good listener and always open to new ideas/comments/suggestions. That is probably one of the reasons why the company has grown so rapidly in the past few years. He is very passionate about his art. Perfection is not a choice once you are part of the gsquad and higher levels. In 2018 the kids won a lot of local competitions in Bay Area and also represented Bay Area at the finals of DANCE USA DANCE, in New York (on Broadway).Truly breathtaking choreography. 4 stars for 2 reasons. (1) I used to love the 4 quarters per year format. Not thrilled about the 2 semester system. Feels kinda restrictive and tied down. (2) They used to have dance classes in East Bay. Now it is all in South Bay. Not particularly excited about all the time kids spend away from home on almost all weekends. read more

Ratna is a great addition to the instructor crew and it was good to see dance styles from different parts of India in the recent show. I've been dancing with Gurus of Dance for 2 years now and I must say Aditya is an amazing teacher whose patience impresses me. Teaching a talent in which you excel in to students is a craft, and Aditya does great at it. We always learn a different style of dancing every quarter and are encouraged to focus on learning the basics of that style, which is commendable. I've learned dance at a few places and I haven't met a teacher who is so focused on basics as Aditya is. He corrects if our hand is sideways compared to straight, he focuses on the nitty gritty. We have a wonderful performance held twice a year and we get plenty of training leading up to that along with a stage rehearsal. Aditya and his company are a fantastic bunch of instructors who make every class fun and informational. I'll be continuing to dance here for years to come and very much encourage others who want to learn dance! read more

Our daughter has been dancing with Gurus for 7 years and loves every moment of it. This is one activity she looks forward to because all the instructors make it a fun, caring and challenging environment. She has learned numerous dance styles over the years and has been exposed to many public performances. She had the honor to represent India at the SF ethnic dance festival, opened for Mika Singh in San Jose, Ganesh festival in Fremont and a fundraiser at ICC.
