Tried an MMA class on a Friday night with Coach Rob and got my a$$ WHOOPED! I always knew I bruised like a peach and the first round of kicking the punching bag was proof - I had red, baby hills on both shins immediately! But regardless, I still had an awesome time and felt like a total bada$$ when I was punching the crap out of those bags. I also like that the class involved a lot of floor work such as push ups, squats, and abs. Plus, the extra loud music really helps get you pumped up. By the end of class the mat was not looking pretty because of everyone's sweat stains, lol. This place is located behind the gas station right before you get onto 680 South. The gym itself seems pretty big, I didn't explore it too much. There's two or three floors and even some basic gym equipment. There were some other classes going on at the same time which is pretty neat. I believe you can sign up for about $160 a month and have unlimited access to all the classes - MMA, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and even CrossFit! Pretty awesome deal if you want a get bored easily because there's a wide variety of programs to pick from.

I really enjoyed the workout Rudi had me and my clients do. I help people lose weight for a living with nutrition and diet, but I don't have as much experience with fitness. Rudi is a good friend of mine, and offered for me to check his place out. I didn't really know what to expect, but I know he has years of experience, so I trusted that he will give me a killer workout. OMG he kicked my butt in an hour! And of course it was fun at the same time. I like how he threw in some kick boxing into the work outs. A great way to release some aggression. The facility is big, so no worries with not having enough space. The trainers are welcoming and nice. There are many different classes there: Crossfit, Fastfit, Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and others as well. I believe there's a 2 day free trial you can try out the place. And every Sunday morning they have free classes :) I highly recommend this place if you wanna be a bad ass!

Panoramic view. Good variety of cardio machines. New equipment.

I signed up for just the 3-month pilot online program 'Program Design', although there is some improvement needed, I found it to be something that worked for me given its structure. The following are my results as my last day of the program is this week Aug. 11th. Lost: 20.2ibs Lost: 4.4% body fat Lost: total of 16 inches Not everyone's results may turn out the same as mine, as we all have different health, body types, frames, and what drives/sparks us to a healthy path. But getting results overall depends on your determination on going to the gym every day or according to whatever your training plan is, staying committed to the diet or meal plan, your mindset, and putting in the effort consistently while not falling back into any previous bad habits. But safety is key, that is #1! Know your limits and where you feel improvement is needed. And know when your body needs to pause to not overstrain yourself.

My usual spot is Whipple in Hayward, but since that branch is the northernmost in the Lower East Bay still living up to its namesake of being open 24 hours, it can get quite crowded. This 24 Hour FItness on Automall is never overly packed, even during prime hours, and the clientele is also much more polite and well mannered. This leads to the facility itself being more clean and orderly. One minor point of contention is that the steam room seems to be perpetually out of order, but at least the sauna is in tip top condition and well maintained. Since I don't actually lift weights (strictly calisthenics), and I don't do indoor cardio (daily minimum 15k steps outdoors), my main purpose of going to the gym is for the sauna and steam room, so to have half of this out of commission is a bit of a bummer. From what I can see, the cardio and weight areas are also in proper working order, with the patrons typically being respectful. As far as the workers go, since I often go in the wee hours of the twilight, I only see the front desk associate, and the brother is always kind and welcoming. Similar to San Ramon, Automall 24 is also two stories, which leads to better circulation and a less claustrophobic feel. Whereas at some other locations of 24, guests are packed like sardines, that is usually not the case here. Thankfully, since the end of the pandemic, 24 Hour Fitness has gotten rid of the tier system (Sport, Super Sport, Ultra, etc.), so those with grandfathered plans are eligible to visit any of the gyms, including ones that were previously inaccessible, which is great for us old timers. Now if they could only do something about that steam room!

In the Fremont location, the cardio machines are located at second floor. From dumbbell areas, dumbbells are not placed in order by weight and some are probably missing since racks are not always almost filled up. You'll have to walk around to find the dumbbells you need. If you can't find them, either that they're missing or someone else is using it. Some gym machines especially from cardio don't work with signs saying that they're unusable. I guess that they get worn out overtime. You'll have to find alternatives or use other machines that perform the same exercises. Locker rooms tend to be very smelly, which is why I don't change there. The only time that I go there is if I need to use the restroom. Other than that, I have no plans of going there for anything else. The good news is that the staff is starting to take care of it as time flies. During peak hours (usually weekday evenings), gym in this location is very hectic and crowded. It's like rush hour after long day at work and waiting in line to use the machines. That's why I only go there early afternoons or late evenings. I recommend that you don't go during peak hours if possible. Overall, it's an average gym. At least it almost has all the equipment you'll need to get through most workouts. Also, they've been changing the designs in this location. They just need more improvement in gym equipments.

The space they have created is so welcoming for beginners, and they foster an environment where anyone--no matter where they are in their fitness journey--can get the workout they are looking for. The instructors are attentive to everyone in class and are incredibly supportive. I would also like to show my appreciation for three instructors whose classes I generally take on a weekly basis. Claudia is one of my all-time favorite fitness instructors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have taken her Pilates reformer class, hybrid mat class, and TRX class. I consider her coaching the primary reason I was able to break through the fitness plateau I was experiencing before coming to the studio. She is extremely knowledgeable about the workouts and can create modifications on the spot to fit you and your fitness goals. I go Tina's Barre class, and what I appreciate about it is the structure, as well as how unique each session is. Her instruction style is very supportive, and she is beyond cognizant of everyone in the room. In every class, she checks in on each client to make sure they have good form. I never thought I would enjoy taking Barre, but I now consider myself a true Barre enthusiast. Audrey is another amazing instructor. I generally take her reformer class and Exo Chair class. Audrey's classes are so welcoming and engaging. Her workouts are challenging, but due to how she engages the class, time seems to fly by because we are all just having fun. As I stated at the beginning of this review, I have never advocated this much for a fitness studio, and I will continue to be a client for the foreseeable future and then some. Thank you, Jen, and the rest of the IMX Studio team!

For someone who dislikes exercise, getting sweaty and waking up early, IMX Pilates has completely changed the way I feel and think about exercise. This form of fitness is perfect for me who has chronic aliments like a bad back/knee, weak shoulder, sensitive tailbone and hurt foot. Movements can be modified to your level or current condition. It can be challenging if you push yourself. It's a full body low impact workout that works your whole body and muscles you didn't even know existed! I can attest that my physical weaknesses before going to Pilates have either healed or strengthened. When I had rotator cuff surgery, Pilates was a great rehab exercise. The best part are the instructors esp the owner. She knows you by name and makes a point to make sure your form is correct, and nothing is too overwhelming or hard. She has hired some amazing instructors who truly love teaching and doing Pilates. They won't teach anything they wouldn't do themselves. And EVERY class is different. You never will be bored! The studio is exceptionally clean; the reformers are spaced out well (not cramped); the equipment is well cared for and lots of options for hand weights, wedges, cushions to accommodate your back, head etc.. and its not difficult to get a spot in class if you register in a timely manner. It's been one of the best commitments I have ever made.
