Challenge School provides a great mandarin immersion program in Fremont for preschoolers. My daughter went to Challenge since January 2022 after we moved to Fremont; it was a big change for her with all the transitions. She has grown so much and transitioned well. She made some really good friends, too. I especially like the size of the school and classes being relatively small as compared those in other preschools - (the great teacher-to-student ratio) not only does she get enough attention and care from her teachers, it also creates a small community. On top of that, the spacious indoor environment contributed to zero COVID outbreak during the pandemic - it was definitely a huge plus. The teachers there are very caring - I remember when my daughter just started there, I probably wore a worried look when I dropped her off at school every morning. I was soon comforted by the teachers, "Don't worry, she's really happy here and she transitioned well." When it comes to communication, Kim was always responsive and quick in responding to my concerns and address them right away. At Challenge, they teach in both languages which matches our goal to raise our child to be bilingual and biliterate. I love the various programs they offer at school - from drawing, coloring, crafting, art, to writing, counting, basic math concepts, etc. I also like how they structure their curriculum by theme, and how they evaluate children's development. It is amazing that my daughter is now being prepared to read, and every once a while, she surprises me with what she learned from school - she read "I see a frog" recently, and she understands the concept of zero - we definitely didn't teach her much at home. Recently they have added music class taught by teacher Fan (she plays the piano very well). As a small community, parents and families are involved- not only birthday celebrations, today they have families volunteered and had kittens visiting the school! Imagine how excited and happy the kids are! There are always on-stage performance and events for holidays - it is a lot of hard work from the teachers and our kids. I look forward to her graduation this summer but can't help feeling a little sad about her departure from this great school. Certainly each school has its strengths and room for improvements, but the fact that I already feel that we would miss Challenge so much means something! We are grateful that we found Challenge School, and will be forever thankful for the teachers at Challenge who played an important role in our daughter's early childhood education!

My high schooler has since graduated from Tricity Chinese school and tested into Chinese 2 at James Logan high as a freshman. We basically switched because my kids could not keep up with the workload and demands of Yellow river. My husband does not speak mandarin and the environment at Tricity is more accommodating for mixed language families. The transition from simplified to traditional has been easier than I expected and pretty much a non issue for both kids. They went from dreading weekend chinese school and doing homework in tears at Yellow river, to being able to actually enjoy the language and do homework on their own with minimal help from me at Tricity. I would say that in itself speaks volumes. The school offer 2 streams, one is the traditional stream which starts with zhuyin in kindergarten and introduces pinyin by 4th grade. The other stream is the CFL (Chinese as a foreign language) which uses some English in the teaching. They also have electives after school and my son is taking the go chess class.

It is onsite at the school, having a dedicated classroom and a dedicated playground. It's very convenient. All staff are bilingual in both English and Mandarin so they can offer Mandarin support on homework for kids in the Mandarin immersion program. They also provide academic support on Math and English. Things like helping students review materials in preparation of a test that the teacher will give. The kids do get play time at the playground. They provide some small snacks if kids are hungry. But we usually bring ours. They offer some extracurricular activities like coding or chess or art or dance with additional fee. What class to offer at the site depends on the number of students who are interested and signed up. But they do let kids trial the first class and see if they are interested to continue. Overall the staff are great and they create a safe environment for kids to learn, play, and socialize. The academic support on Mandarin and other subjects is also a plus to the program even for a native Mandarin speaker like me.

We started our son in the preschool program and we instantly saw him blossom. Little Apples gave him a safe space to learn and grow, which has now led to such confidence and kindness in our child. Miss Sharon, Miss Wendy, Miss Ashley, and all of the staff here have been so wonderful to us and we can't thank them enough for the wonderful experience. When my husband and I first visited the school, we both saw it as our dream school for our son. As competitive as it is, we were lucky enough to have our son enrolled. Every interaction we've had with Little Apples has been nothing but positive. The staff is super responsive, attentive, and caring. Any time we had questions, they were so quick to respond. They are very committed to ensuring your child is in good hands and well taken care of. The facility is immaculate and they really promote a fun yet educational program that will get your child engaged. We will be forever grateful to Little Apples for helping our son grow into his own. I started my daughter at little apples at the age of 3 during the pandemic and my son at the age of 2. At the time little apples took all the precautionary measures to keep the students and their family safe. Miss Sharon has always been extremely responsive to questions and my concerns. I appreciated that I could email or call and ask for a short meeting to discuss any concerns I might have had. For example I was concerned about my son's transition to preschool given he was a "biter" but I was reassured by Ms. Sharon with how the staff would handle these types of situations. My daughter has continued with little apples and has been attending their afterschool enrichment program which includes homework help, learning Mandarin, science, STEM, and art. Fastfoward my daughter is now in 2nd grade and my son is in kindergarten, both attending the afterschool program and loving every moment. The staff go above and beyond and both my children have only positive things to share with me when I ask them about their day. They've made so many friends and I've gotten to know many of the other parents. Would highly recommend Little Apples

He was actually scared at first because he came from another afterschool, but the teachers welcomed him with so much warmth. They found him a good friend right away, and they also let him spend mornings with older kids. The older children take on small leadership roles, and the younger ones feel instantly included, which helped him adjust so quickly. The teachers are wonderful. 贾老师 is someone I see at every drop-off and pick-up, and it feels as if I am leaving my child with a loving relative. 乐老师 is also amazing with both math and Chinese. Since my son loves numbers, her teaching fits him perfectly. Thanks to her, he already knows multiplication tables for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 as a kindergartener. Every week he surprises me with new Chinese poems, songs, and characters he learned. I also love their weekly chess and phonic classes as well. The Chess teacher Mr. Gary is awesome, and my son always comes home excited to show the chess rules he learned. The academic structure is great. Each week he brings home organized packets for Math, English, and Chinese. They also have many teachers to support all the kids and their work. The learning environment is encouraging but never pressured. They balance manners, academics, and emotional support in the best way. Their transportation service also gives me peace of mind. We receive a daily photo, which reassures us so much. They even help during long weekends and school-off days. AllStar may be a school business, but they never act like one. They feel like a warm and caring community with truly qualified teachers. We are genuinely grateful to have found this place for our son.
