We got another tree here this past November. It was great and lasted well past December with the help of Prolong which helps extend the life of plants and trees. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and they employ a nice group of young men who cut and tie trees to the tops of cars. We are moving out of the city but we might continue getting our tree here just for tradition purposes. read more

Extremely overpriced...to the point that it's ridiculous. I saw some hanging basket ric-rac cactis and each were approximately $40.00. I bought one from another store - same plant, same size, same condition, same pot size for $22.00. Also, I saw some Hoyas with two pot sizes. The larger size was over $40.00. They sell the same Hoyas at your local Lowe's - same size, same condition, same pot size, same variety for $15.95. And people wonder why small businesses are going out of business... read more

We have been customers of Green Fields for over 20 years. The staff is knowledgeable & friendly. They have a great selection of plants, pottery & trees & their prices are reasonable. Any time we have questions, the staff, especially Peter, take as much time as necessary, researching & resolving the issue.They gave a free estimate for landscaping, ultimately performed the services professionally & in a very timely fashion. These people really know plants, the local climate, etc. As a Californian I am used to everything just growing and was pretty distressed when some of the "plant babies" I moved from the other coast died. When I visited a few years ago, I spent about 20 minutes looking around and I couldn't find an employee paying attention enough or willing to help me, even though I tried to make eye contact with at least 3 employees. Maybe I wasn't looking the part of a customer enough for them? :S read more

I have been a customer of Green Fields for several years now, and have nothing but good things to say about the employees, owners and quality of their products. We are always so pleased with the selection of Christmas trees and extremely helpful and reliable delivery service. The employees are very knowledgable and willing to help with any of my landscaping questions or problems. I recommend Green Fields to all of my friends and coworkers. I find it completely ridiculous, rash, and unprofessional that someone would slander a company by writing a heinous review out of anger for a traffic delay. A company cannot be to blame for the careless actions of one delivery truck driver. I am flabbergasted by HIS ignorance and arrogance. Yes, being late for work can be frustrating, but it is simply ignorant to take ones anger out on the wrong person. I highly doubt this one truck CAUSED 3 fender benders and delayed 7 schools. It seems like a gross exaggeration and a misrepresentation of the truth. And, it seems highly unlikely that the employees would have responded to this complaint by saying "he should have left earlier or taken a different route." That does not fit with the experiences I have had over the years. Please, do not allow the angry ramblings of one road raged man affect your opinion of this company. I do not typically review businesses on the internet but felt compelled to do so after reading this misplaced outlet of anger. Picked up our Christmas tree here, and appreciated their organization and selection. Our tree is fragrant and went up easily, and it was nice to be confident we were getting a fresh, high-quality tree. The young man who tied the tree to the car could have done a slightly more secure job, but we also have a small car so it may not all be on him. I'll be happy to return here for another tree, and check out the other seasonal offerings as well. read more

As a houseplant enthusiast who has done my fair share of shopping, I have to say that this nursery will be my new go-to for future gardening needs. Not only do they have a great selection of plants, pots, soils, etc., they are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I brought my favorite orchid into the store because it had been over watered and the roots were rotten. Not only did they trim the rotten roots and moss off the "sick" plant, but they helped me re-pot it with the right pot and medium to ensure that it didn't happen again. I like that you don't have someone bugging you here. You're free to wander and think creatively -- imagining this plant combo, that option, etc. The store reminds me of a charming little country plant store in an urban setting! Every time I've needed help I was able to get it. I've shopped here maybe 5 times in the past 10 years, and I like the place. I just don't have much area to plant. Now, in wanting pansies for the fall, I started calling to find plants without the pesticides that kill bees -- niciotiniods (sp?) and Greenfields said they only buy from local growers who do not use those chemicals. So, I don't care if they are a little more than Home Depot or Lowes (both companies carry the plants responsible for bee killing!). read more

First, I have been shopping at Green Fields for many years and until now I have spent many thousands of dollars and time at this place. Second, I am one of Peter's biggest fans!! He is the backbone, eyes, ears, and face of this company. As long as Peter works there, they have little to worry about in the way of having/losing customers. Clearly, most customers will continue going there so this is for those unsuspecting folks looking for a nursery nearby. With that said, the company itself is absolutely horrible. The owners are rude, have a sense of entitlement, and they have zero sense of community/customer responsibility or respect. They are completely overpriced! They sell what EVERYBODY else has at INFLATED prices and usually offer less variety. In fact, several companies nearby (valley view, mclean, meadows, benkes) sell lovely merchandise hassle free and for less money; btw, most of the companies purchase wholesale from the same places so it is not like you are getting anything special from one over the other. Last fall I purchased several trees and bushes from Greenfield's. Nothing was out of routine. However, this spring I noticed one of the items was dying and not in a bad winter kind of way. I immediately contacted Peter, he suggested some ideas to repair the damage. Nothing seemed to work. Soon after talking with Peter, one of the trees also started to fail. Out of 10 items that I purchased last fall, I was surprised to see this happen as I have only had two other items fail out of many hundreds that I have purchased from them previously over the years. When I took the two items into the store, Peter, as usual, was extremely helpful and understanding. On the other hand, the owner, I think her name is Monica, refused to address the situation in an honorable fashion. In fact, she went as far as shrugging off my protest when I stated how much I had spent on these items and that I have been a faithful and honorable patron for years. CLEARLY, they do not care whom they offend and how they treat customers - my guess is that they think Peter will be there forever. They should keep him kept in bubble wrap and locked in a vault because the day he leaves their employment is the day this business will be forced to close their doors - and for the better I might add. read more

I am not one to hastily give a poor review, however my experience with this company was extremely negative. We used them to install groundcover and they did a TERRIBLE job. They did not properly prepare the ground before installing and did not plant enough cover for the area. They came back to try and fix things and still did not do the job correctly. Other landscapers have come out and commented on how poor a job they did. To make matters worse, one of their staff members, Kathleen, was hostile and very unpleasant towards me as I attempted to have the situation rectified. In the end we wasted thousands of dollars, and had to have our yard totally redone. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR LANDSCAPING SERVICES. read more

Their plant selection is good but prices can be pretty high. My main problem in that they may not be open when they are suppose to be so call ahead. I went by today at 9:30am when they were suppose to be open at 9am and they were closed. My least favorite quality in a business, unreliability. read more
