I came across Hueter's Greenhouse on social media and was immediately captivated by the photos…read more When a beautiful Saturday rolled around and I had zero plans, the decision made itself -- Hueter's was the destination. Getting there was super easy. GPS took me right to the entrance, and parking was plentiful and clearly marked just off the road. From the moment I arrived, it was obvious this place takes pride in its space -- the property is beautifully manicured, and everything is well laid out and easy to navigate. But let's talk about the real star of the show: The Conservatory. This is where Hueter's completely won me over. The Conservatory isn't just a greenhouse -- it's an experience. A fully curated, thoughtfully designed, houseplant-lover's dream. The plant pots aren't just stacked on shelves...they're displayed on color-coordinated tables like a home décor showroom. The plants themselves are beautifully arranged, clearly priced, and paired with care instruction signs that actually make you feel confident bringing one home. I spent nearly an hour in there just wandering, taking photos, and repeatedly saying, "Oh, that's BEAUTIFUL!" to absolutely no one. The selection was fantastic -- a great mix of plants and pots -- and the pricing felt very reasonable for the quality and presentation. They were also running an Easter egg hunt inside The Conservatory, which was a fun idea...in theory. Unfortunately, I think I arrived a little too late in the day, because I looked (and looked...and looked) and didn't find a single egg. No one else around me seemed to be having any luck either. My only suggestion would be to either restock the eggs throughout the day or remove the signage once they're all found -- just so people know whether it's still an active thing or not. Overall, though? This place is a gem. Hueter's isn't just somewhere you pop in and out of -- it's somewhere you wander. It's calm, it's beautiful, and it's very easy to lose track of time (and possibly your self-control if you're a plant person like me). I'll absolutely be back. There are already a few plants from this visit sitting firmly on my "you're coming home with me next time" list... and honestly, it's only a matter of time.

Prices are somewhat higher than big box locations, but you get quality from Stauffers and almost all plants, shrubs and trees are grown right from their nursery and not shipped like big box stores. Most locations have everything you need from pots, tools, furniture to all your planting needs. Staff are fantastic and you can definitely tell they love what they do. From helping load up your cart, opening doors to locating exactly what you're looking for, staff are always ready. Highly recommend Stauffers of Kissel Hill for all your gardening needs.

I like that they're open year round and offer a limited supply of outdoor plants even in the dead of winter, along with houseplants. The succulent department was well stocked and featured a lot of variety, along with pre-potted varieties in cool containers. They also carry pots, supplies, mulch & stone, and some outdoor furniture. The gift shop featured novelty and decorative garden and nature inspired items. Some were rather unique. I loved the hanging egg chair, and at a price of $299 felt it was in line with other retailers. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. The prices however for Stauffer's in general is high. A large palm like houseplant I was considering priced at $49 I found later that day at Weis for $18. I did end up purchasing a $14 houseplant, I could probably find elsewhere for less, but it was healthy, and an employee was extremely helpful in assisting me find a low light variety I bought it almost out of obligation.

Smucker Gardens knows how to kick off fall in style! My first visit was for their 2025 Mum…read moreFestival, and let me tell you--it was everything I hoped for and then some. The Scene: Easy to find on GPS, well-signed from the road, and plenty of parking in the gravel lot. Their greenhouses are massive and overflowing with plants, and inside the main building you'll find home décor, gifts, and seasonal goodies galore. Prices lean a touch higher than some other local greenhouses, but given the location and setup, it felt fair. The Mum Festival: Perfectly organized. Food trucks up front (grab a bite first, wander later--smart!), vendor tents sprinkled throughout, live music filling the air, and kids' activities that looked like pure joy. It was a warm, sunny September Saturday--ideal fall fest weather. The Adventure: While mums and pumpkins were great for the vibe, my main goal was something a little...unexpected. The ad mentioned camel rides. Yes, CAMEL rides. At a mum fest. At 40 years old, I had never ridden a camel, and I wasn't about to miss my shot. I called ahead to confirm that the "kids activity" was indeed open to grown-ups, too. Fast forward to the fest--I see the sign: "Camel Rides $10 Per Person." Ten bucks for a once-in-a-Central-PA-lifetime adventure? SOLD. Nervous, excited, and slightly in disbelief, I climbed aboard. And it was everything I hoped it would be--totally worth the thrill (and the bragging rights). The Food: Yummy eats from food trucks and coffee from Brewboxx to keep the energy high. Perfect fuel for festival hopping. All in all: a fun, unique, and memorable event. Smucker Gardens is worth a visit on any regular day--but during Mum Fest? Add it to your fall bucket list.
