After multiple back and forth and with SF Bay Engineering admitting they aren't familiar with the requirements, they terminated the contract. They refunded their engineering fee, but the architectural cost remained my responsibility. I brought the matter to small claims court, and the court ruled that because I retained the plans, reimbursement was not warranted. As a busy professional with many clients and cases, he never answer the phone promptly when urgent matters arose. While I understand that he is a highly sought-after professional, I believe that being busy should not be used as an excuse for poor communication. Competence: While I found his technical skills to be impressive, I had some concerns about the design of the interior spaces. In particular, I found that the floor plan was not very convenient for daily use, and some aspects of the design did not take into account practical considerations. As a first-time home owner, I found that his fees added up quickly, and I felt that he was primarily focused on getting the project done quickly and obtaining the necessary permits rather than prioritizing my overall satisfaction as a customer. While I appreciate Mr. Yang's structure expertise in obtaining permits, I would have preferred a more customer-centric approach, with greater attention paid to my needs and preferences.
