That's unheard of in this day and age. Don't let one bad review sway you from a reviewer who seemingly likes to give bad reviews (you can see it on her account). If you hire Chris, you will get a 5-star guy who will give you the shirt off of his back. He's warm, friendly, knowledgeable and fair- exactly the type of guy and company you want to fix your stuff. Nick is a licensed general contractor and extraordinary carpenter with a great eye for detail. He is classically trained with a BFA in sculpture from University of the Arts in Philadelphia and exhibit buildout at SFMOMA. He checked all the boxes at our first on-site meeting and revisits. He was on time, on budget, an excellent listener and terrific communicator, highly skilled craftsman and problem solver, true to form with the best tools and matching materials, self-proclaimed nit-picky perfectionist, fine finish matching and all around nice guy. Nick is honest, quick to respond, perfect on the details, has very high standards, and is very caring and positive, gracious and modest. He used the existing design not reinventing the wheel and most likely would have improved the gateway design given the chance. Nick is an exceptionally talented contractor with many years of creative problem solving. To repeat, he has a great eye for detail and sculpted, integrated, seamless design with unique elements evidenced by his extensive portfolio. I never felt the need to micromanage him. He is terrific at remote site communication and management. We live in the East Bay and the owner is in Hawaii which adds a level of complexity to remote destination work. I stepped back remotely and admired Nick's process with timely before and after pictures. The end result was outstanding! We will definitely use Nick on our next project, very highly recommended!

Jason was hired to replace 2 sides of an existing redwood fence. The new fence was not put in the…read moresame place as the old-it was pushed in over 2' in some places. Cross boards are inconsisten, some not cut at the correct angle, many not making any contact. There are nails that completely miss the wood, the pedestrian gate hardware broke immediately. The driveway gate (cheap cattle gate) began to sag the following week-he said he would replace it with a quality gate and would reinforce the gate posts. Rather than cutting the boards to the correct size when going over redwood roots, they ran a skill saw along the top of the fence boards, in a very uneven line. The entire job was horrible. When we brought these issues to Jason's attention (he was not on the job once after doing the estimate), he assured us that he would fix/ replace all of the issues. Then, the excuses began (from he and his wife-office manager): he had fired the 2 men that had done our job and was shorthanded. He injured a leg and needed surgery. He had an infection in his lungs- then a spot on his lungs...it went on and on for more than 2 years. Still, he has not fixed a single issue! Find someone else! You'll be glad you avoided Cambra Contracting!!! I wish we had!

We were disappointed with Greenrun Construction for so many reasons. The biggest one was that they…read moreheld themselves out to be "sustainable" builders on their website and suggested the same with their business name. In our experience, they did not have any more expertise in or attention to sustainability than any run-of-the-mill contractor. We had to do our own research to select sustainable roofing materials because Rodney didn't know anything about, or at least did not share with us, the pros and cons of various materials from a sustainability standpoint. We trusted that he would recommend doors with windows that had the highest level of energy efficiency. He did not, so we ended up with less energy efficient French doors that did not qualify for an energy efficiency tax credit. He never told us about the tax credit; we only discovered it when we were doing our taxes, long after the doors had been installed. The most costly of his mistakes was misunderstanding which doors we wanted replaced, in spite of our physically showing him exactly which doors. He ordered a new door for the wrong spot. They were custom doors, so could not be returned. His inattention to our directions cost us an additional $3400. He cut into our deck to access one area for the door replacements. He replaced the boards he cut but did not adequately secure them. Now we have multiple boards popping up several inches, making the deck unsafe to use. After removing the rubber baseboard to replace another door, he thought it was all right to replace it with a base board that ended several inches before the juncture with the door. When we followed up about this, he said he could fix it, but only with a different size baseboard than used in the rest of the room. After a long time and much follow up on our part, he managed to find the right size baseboard and have his worker install it. But the worker used the wrong kind of adhesive and the baseboard peeled off. We had to hire someone else to do it correctly. It appears that his worker may have damaged our flooring at the same time. In sum, look elsewhere if you are looking for a contractor with sustainability expertise. If you do hire him, you need to watch him like a hawk to minimize his errors and to ensure that he fixes his mistakes.

I hired Rising Starr Construction to remove and replace exterior building material which had been…read moreaffected by wood destroying pests & organisms - mainly dry rot & fungus - as identified in Home and Pest Inspection Reports. Most of the work required replacing approximately 50 ft x 3 ft of T1-11 siding along several exterior walls and replacing trim boards at various locations. Josh Kesecker is the Owner, and Antonio Martinez is Lead Carpenter and primary onsite worker. After reaching out to Josh, he responded quickly to setup a time to meet at my house and review the scope of work. He was quick to respond with his very clear itemized quote, and he scheduled work immediately. His price was fair considering the work involved and level of quality he and Antonio provided. Josh is a third-generation contractor with prior experience as an Inspector, so he knows how to address corrective issues. He is soft-spoken and calm, very straightforward, experienced, and friendly. Antonio was a gem - a very friendly, skilled professional that works very hard and takes pride in doing work correctly. For example, the trim at a window had been identified in the reports as having fungal damage. When Antonio removed the trim, he found that the damage extended to a narrow 2" and 12" section of siding under the trim on the side of one of the windows, and above the garage personal-door. He proceeded to dig out and replace this siding before replacing the trim. Another contractor would not have included this level of quality control and workmanship and would have simply replaced the trim and left the damage underneath. These guys were very easy to work with, and came through, providing outstanding quality work. I highly recommend them.

I was referred to Rising Starr Construction shortly after purchasing my first home. We had an…read more'extra room' behind the garage that was below-grade, had drainage issues, had terrible flooring, and the existing French doors and interior walls appeared to have water damage. We called and the owner Josh came out to investigate and assess what we needed to have done - within a day or two he sent a comprehensive and competitive bid. After we agreed to the work Josh returned with his team and within a several days created a French drain system around the extra room to mitigate moisture intrusion, installed a new sliding glass door, installed new flooring / baseboard, resolved some moisture intrusion / fixed and painted dry wall inside the room, and built an incredible post and pier foundation for our new shed we were having delivered. All of the work was done efficiently and with masterful craftsmanship; Josh and his crew were always nice and even cleaned up the work area at the end of each work day! We just sold the home and definitely made our money back and more! Can't recommend Rising Starr Construction enough... Josh and his crew are exceptional and truly the best at what they do.

I am meticulous about wanting jobs done right the first time and up to my exacting standards, so I only hire Eric because I know and trust him. He listens, has fair pricing, and walks me through the projects to ensure my expectations are fulfilled. I ask many questions, and he is patient and answers them thoroughly. I appreciate his responsiveness and professionalism and that he is very neat and organized, providing high-quality work every time.! Equally important is that he is dependable and shows up when he promises. He has done everything from installing recessed lighting throughout my entire house (no easy task with extremely high, slanted, cathedral ceilings) and garage, installing plumbing fixtures and lighting fixtures, and everything in between--even hanging my artwork. Most recently a refrigerator on the top floor was hooked up improperly, causing water to slowly leak in between the wall and down to my second floor below. It suffered a good deal of water intrusion damage to two door frames, surrounding walls, and ceiling. He did an excellent job repairing/replacing the door frames and fixing the rest of the damage.
