Sellwood, Southwest Portland

I asked them to come in and do an energy audit of the house, and based on that we decided to have…read moreinsulation blown into our heretofore completely uninsulated walls. we also had them increase the attic insulation from the spotty R19 coverage to R38, do thorough air sealing, and install seals on all of the exterior doors. Their crew was prompt and professional and did a great job removing and reinstalling siding on the house without trampling the garden. They just finished yesterday, and the weather has been quite mild, so we haven't felt the effects of the insulation yet, but I have high hopes we'll see it on this winter's heating bill!

The water heater was installed 2 1/2 years ago by Rivival Heating and the anode rod needed to be replaced because "Portland water is so hard and full of minerals". The original quote for labor alone (not covered under warranty) was $340 but we got the manager to bring it down to $250. Still, the water heater is only 2 1/2 years old and that was an expense we did not anticipate when we bought the water heater. The prior one was not broken but when we had Rivival replace our furnace, they strongly suggested replacing the water heater at the same time. The old one never produced brown water but after just two years, the new one did. Maybe the water heater wasn't as good as the previous one? Not sure... Forgot to add, my home warranty service said they could not reimburse me because this is a "warranty issue". And to be truthful, the furnace job was great! Just wish the water heater repair didn't cost me anything. Next year, when it is out of warranty, I'll be able to file for reimbursement from my home warranty provider.

We had an outstanding experience with Alcon Insulation and highly recommend them to anyone looking…read morefor insulation work. From start to finish, they were professional, honest, respectful, knowledgeable, and very fairly priced. We had two projects for Alcon. First, we had a rat get into our crawl space, so we needed the vapor barrier and insulation replaced. Second, we wanted additional insulation in our attic because what we had was the minimum amount and had become worn down. During the inspection, Vincente also noticed that we had no insulation on an attic firewall, which both companies we received bids from agreed should have insulation. Alcon did an excellent job protecting our home during the work. They put plastic protection over all of our carpets and walls and did a great job cleaning up at the end of each day. The entire project took two days, and you would hardly have known they had been working in the house. One of the biggest reasons we chose Alcon was their pricing and honesty. We received bids from two companies. The other company was an approved Energy Trust of Oregon contractor and offered a $2,000 incentive for adding attic insulation. Even with that incentive, their price was still slightly higher than Alcon's. Without the incentive, their bid was more than $2,000 higher than Alcon's. I had always understood the incentive to be something intended to benefit the homeowner, rather than something that gets absorbed into the contractor's pricing. Alcon's straightforward and fair pricing really stood out to us, and we are so glad we went with them. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process. They were on time, easy to work with, clear in their communication, and very respectful of our home. The quality of the work has already made a noticeable difference. We immediately noticed that the temperature upstairs is much more consistent. Before the insulation work, we could walk up the stairs and feel the heat in the summer or the cold in the winter. Now, the temperature feels the same all the way up. We expect this improvement in insulation will also help us save energy. Vincente went above and beyond in several ways because of how knowledgeable and attentive he is. He noticed that a sump pump installed by our home's manufacturer was positioned incorrectly and offered to fix it for us at no charge. He also discovered a slow roof leak that we were able to have another company promptly repair. (Alcon does not repair shingles, but Vincente was thoughtful enough to point out the problem.) He also repaired a couple of our vent covers at no additional cost. Those extra things really say a lot about the kind of company Alcon is. They weren't just focused on completing the job and leaving. They genuinely cared about doing quality work and helping us take care of our home. If you're looking for an insulation company that is **professional, honest, knowledgeable, respectful, and fairly priced, I highly recommend Alcon Insulation.** We couldn't be happier with the work and our experience with Vincente and the team!

A few years ago, I had water stains in my guest bedroom from possible water seepage. While another company insisted on cutting through the ceiling, Vicente took the time to inspect the crawl space and found a solution without unnecessary damage. He provided clear options and replaced the insulation, even repairing the ceiling from the prior work. Alcon is professional, affordable, and trustworthy. I wouldn't hesitate to have them handle any insulation needs.
