He called me back the same day and we discussed the issues. He looked up my house up on Google maps to understand the size of the job and gave me a preliminary estimate to see if the cost was within my range. It was, so then he came out that week to see the job in person and talk about the possibilities, plus final estimate. I like that he came out on a Sunday for the in person estimate. After talking with him I noted he is a thoughtful person and has good ideas (and interesting to talk to, he is a retired philosophy professor at UNC). He gave me at least three different ways of handling the problem. He then came out with Ken the next day, graded, added rocks and even added a small french drain for free since he didn't want to charge me more than the estimate. He was very careful to not destroy my plants with the Bobcat. The driveway looked better than when we moved in when it was newly constructed 6 years ago. I emailed him a thank you since I was not here when he was done and he wrote back about how we should maintain the driveway. One rain post completion and things are draining well. We would hire him again.

Because of the high quality of their work and great customer service Mark Swicewood, Cort Tangeman…read moreand the team at Just My Style Landscape Service, Inc. (JMS) just completed a second project for us and they, once again, did a fantastic job. Our project list this time included: 1). Extending the natural stone pathway and steps they did in our backyard last summer. 2). Paver extensions to both sides of our driveway (so we don't step out of a vehicle into pine straw or grass). This required the removal of a large crepe myrtle and removal or moving of some bushes. Because we had a buried downspout pop up drain alongside the driveway JMS offered several options for how to deal with it and keep the water away from the house. We chose having the pop up moved out closer to the curb. 3). Removal of our old concrete sidewalks replacing and widening them with pavers. Additionally, along with the driveway extensions the pavers were also extended out to the curb so we don't have to walk in the grass to check the mailbox. 4). Installing some retaining walls and sandstone loose fit edging installed around all the planting areas. To complicate the work the JMS team had to work around pre-existing irrigation system valve wiring, piping, drip system tubing and sprinkler heads as well as low-voltage lighting fixtures and wiring. They did an outstanding job of rerouting, moving/replacing and/or repairing all the buried pipes, sprinkler heads and wiring and when they were finished everything was as good as new and looked great. Just as before, during the installation, Cort handled some small specific requests and we really appreciate his attention to detail and consistently superior customer service. He even took some photos for us of portions of the install he knew we were especially interested in. Mark Swicewood, Cort Tangeman, and the whole team from JMS were once again exceptional to work with - just as they did on our previous project they answered all our questions, offered expert advice and suggestions, and followed up on even the smallest detail. They coordinated with us about the progress of the work and cleaned up every day before they left. Both times we've worked with JMS we've received top-notch workmanship, excellent attention to even small details, and superb customer service. It is unbelievably hard to find reliable, customer-oriented contractor s who deliver what they promise - Just My Style Landscape Services is a company you can trust. We highly recommend them for any landscaping needs. In fact, we're already thinking about possible ideas for a third project next year.

We asked them what the charge was for them to do a design for a front sidewalk. Mark, the owner, said it was $500 for a design plan for the walkway only. I have this on an email, so this was some miscommunication. We set up an appt and mark came to meet us, look at the project. he did not tell us that there was a charge, also for the first initial appt. He mentioned a few vague ideas- you could put your sidewalk here.... it can curve. Ok, it was some ideas. he did not measure or do anything other than talk. He was constantly looking at his watch, as if to signal us, that he was wasting time, and he needed to move on. after about 45 min, Mark said, he needed to collect $125 from me, "for the consultation. " We gave him a check, for $125, but we were amazed, that he did absolutely nothing. No measuring, no working on a plan or an estimate. We called three other companies who all came, measured, gave us their time, and charged nothing for that. I contacted mark, and told him i felt this charge was not earned, because 1) he said nothing about it initially. and 2) he did not really advance the project, or give us anything we could use. He declined returning the $125 fee, because he said, he "spent his time there. ". Thats what was required of any company who gives an estimate, or an initial consultation. I would say, go with someone else. These guys are a bit full of their full of their own importance.

But, their services have steadily worsened. Here's my general experience, though yours may differ. 1. When I called, it almost always went to voicemail. 2. We're really busy was the standard excuse. Unsurprisingly, invoices were sent out quickly. Most recently, I had an especially bad experience. My irrigation system had a leak. It took over 2 weeks before someone came out. It was not fixed. How do I know? It was still leaking. Rather than leaving voicemails and waiting another 2+ weeks, I called someone else and they fixed it the very next day. As you might expect, Carolina Outdoor Care still expects me to pay.

I had such high hopes with this company until I started receiving after-hours emails and calls of…read moreoutstanding balances that I had already paid. I hadn't the end of the month invoices promised. I did not want to accumulate at high balance, so I gave $150 check to the guy cutting the grass. I even called the owner to make sure that he'd gotten the check. He confirmed that he did and thanked me. He said other clients were upset because they weren't getting the invoices on time. I'd asked him to clean the flower bed, remove the old mulch, and plant the flowers that I'd purchased. I purchased 8, to which he charged $10 a piece and $50 for cutting the lawn. At 9 p.m., I got emails asking me if it was alright to call. I agreed. I got a call from Craig's employee named Julie. She did the billing. She that I owed both $150 and $130. The $130 was marked delinquent one day after the service. I paid it the very next morning. I told Julie that I had paid with a check the $150 and $130 on my credit. She disputed that I'd paid at all. After much back and forth, she finally saw that I had paid and then conceded that she was wrong. Her constant accusations and badgering turned into a disingenuous apology when I said that I would report the harassment on Yelp. She said that wasn't accusing me, but it was me who misunderstood her intentions. I emailed Craig about his Juliesl's terrible customer service and behavior. He said that it was the software but added that I contributed to the issue by giving checks to the landscaper named Netflix. He said that Netflix could have lost the checks between servicing lawns. He told me to pay from now on on the Jobber site with a credit card. I was going to share the emails on Yelp then but didn't want to hurt him or his business. She even said that she'd resign to keep him from getting a "bad review," but once again, I get an invoice that I owed $100. I'd gone online after April 25 to pay $50 on my card. I was charged for April 5, even though no one showed. I have the emails questioning if I were on schedule for April 4, and why no one came? I received a response that they moved it to April 5. No one came on April 5 as promised, and once again, I emailed asking why? Craig responded tonight that I did nothing wrong, and he apologized. He gave reasons as to why he hadn't kept his word. I accepted the reasons but responded that if he'd just told me, there'd be no problems. I tried my best to continue with the company because good, reliable lawn care is hard to find, but my having to jump to hoops to not only pay but to prove that I've paid is unnecessary stress. As a good faith gesture and to give him the benefit of the doubt. I paid the last invoice in full just to be done. I knew that I only owed $50 but I was tired of the back and forth. I looked on my bank statements and saw that I had paid $50. I only owed $50 instead of the $100 that I was wrongfully charged. I contacted Craig and shared proof of payment. He admitted that he'd found the error and was putting my check in the mail. If he can't keep up with his books or schedule better, he will continue to lose business. Anyone who knows me, knows that I pay my bills on time and I don't run outstanding balances. I wouldn't have A+ credit if I did. I have found someone else and pray that I won't have to go through this again.
