Better late than never! Operating a business that runs on 3 HVAC units totaling 15 tons isn't easy! It requires regular maintenance and care! Over the years, I've tried many company's and self employed contractors to service my old units and I have spend thousands of dollars without any good outcome! This past April, two of my units were pronounced dead! I've done my research and hired a local company for a good price that was almost too low to be true! But I should've caught on! On the date of installation they cheated me and installed a lower quality units than contracted for. It took me weeks to have them come back and take their units let alone they used my identity to open a fake bank account and draw a loan under my name which is a fraud! Long story short, after that situation I came across Green Comfort! Along with a handful of companies that I've quoted and bugged for weeks with all of my questions due to the trust issues I have with most HVAC companies out there! While every company tried to oversell me! Sean actually genuinely wanted to help me just as much as he wanted to make a deal. He educated me on the electrical capacity of my units and my panels, which every single company ignored. I originally requested two 4 ton units but thanks to Sean's knowledge and love for his work, he spotted that and knew that my system isn't designed to handle the electrical load that of a 4 ton. Even if it works, it will exhaust my units and shorten the lifespan! Sean also informed me that a 3.5 ton unit and 4 tons unit both run on different size duck openings and running a 4 ton unit on my original 3.5 ton system will hurt me in the long run! He could've sold me what I wanted and moved on but really cared! Sean was also very professional! he did his homework well and contacted me with updates almost every day! My 82-year old mother was having some problems with her AC with it losing refrigerant. The AC tech who originally installed the system had been unable to fix the problem, opting instead to keep filling the refrigerant as a band aid to keep the system going vice fixing it. With this ongoing heat wave, the AC was losing refrigerant at an alarming rate and my mom was having it done perhaps monthly and costs were piling up with the system still not fixed. This was when I finally tried to get a hold of Green Comfort after reading great reviews on Yelp. I initially got on Green Comfort's site and encouraged by how it's owned by a fellow Army veteran. I sent them an email via their site, on my mom's behalf since I live in FL, inquiring about an estimate for getting my mom's AC fixed. That message wasn't answered. My mom called them and while initially told her location is outside their service area, a tech named Perry came out to assess the issue on a Tuesday. Once he showed up, I spoke to him on the phone to let him know what's been done and to hear what his plan is to fix the system. He informed me that a 2-man team will have to come out to locate and fix the leak on Friday at 8 AM. My mom waited for AC tech from Green Comfort to show up at 8 AM Friday morning...and waited...and waited. She called the office repeatedly and a man named Franklin assured her that someone will show up. Noon came around then 5 PM and still no tech showed up. My mom waited all day and nobody from Green Comfort showed up and not even a courtesy phone call. Totally unprofessional! I even called them Saturday morning when they opened and nobody answered their phones. I even sent a message to the owner listed on Yelp and that was unanswered as well. With this ongoing heat wave, it is totally unacceptable and dangerous for an AC company to leave a customer, an elderly woman at that, on a lurch. At least have the decency to let a customer know the truth so other arrangements can be made. read more

It's started with the old "heat wave" scenario. Our relatively new air conditioning unit decided to blow just hot air during peak outdoor temps, but still you could hear it incessantly cranking outside, running my electric bill higher and higher. We had an air conditioning unit that had an identity crisis. It thought it was a heater. But that ain't all. To make matters worse, this happened just days before the 4th of July holiday weekend. I called several numbers, left desperate messages. But where were all the repairmen? Rolling in the big bucks from all the other air conditioning units that they had already repaired? Out water skiing at the Colorado River? I dunno. Because no one called me back. Fine! For 4 days we just stewed here, drowning in sweat, every ceiling fan in the house going, windows wide open all evening long to push that hot air out. Getting ready for the next day's onslaught. Monday arrives. Sean Gagen, the name behind Green Comfort, gave me a call. Did I still need someone to come out and look at my unit? Are you serious? Of course. 5 stars for even calling me back. Actually, Sean is everything everyone has said about him. First of all he arrived right on time. Wow. I found him to be respectful, hard working, knowledgeable, very professional, and quite honest about what was the real reason behind our failure. The real issue was, the guy in 2012 who installed that particular unit thought bigger was better and did an overkill installation that actually was way too much for our system to handle. So it was freezing up. Ideally we should have a smaller unit. He offered two choices, the cheap way or the jaw dropping-ly expensive way. Well, duh. Sean worked non-stop for almost 3.5 hours, even climbed up into the attic where he found more problems and took pictures. He ran tests, found more issues, fixed them all, and apologetically explained in detail that what he did was not the preferred method (i.e. the Sean Gagen "right way"), but it would definitely get us through. I live in a 1300 sq.ft. home and I needed to replace my old A/C system (Ducane) because it is already giving us problems that we will never know when will it stop working. The A/C system uses the old R22 freon so the furnace and evaporator coil should also be replaced and the air ducts are also in bad shape so might as well replace it. In other words, everything will be brand new. The hardest part for me is to find a good and reputable HVAC company to do the right job and at the same time it must be affordable. First thing I have to do is to research on the different brands out there that is reliable and what materials are needed for installation so I will have an idea on what they will be quoting me and I could ask some questions if necessary and it needs to have a City Permit and HERS rating. Yelp is my first site to visit and called some company with good reviews to come get some estimates and I have gotten different quotes for different brands, ranging from $6,500.00 up to $17,000.00, but almost identical in how they will do the job. If possible, don't do it in summer because it's expensive. I chose Green Comfort because Sean tries to work within my budget (that is $10k and lower) and gave me a reasonable price for a good system and that is a Rheem 16 Seer Condensing Unit with matching R-410a Evaporator Coil, Rheem 2 stage 80% Furnace and R-8 flexible ducts compared to 14 Seer, single stage furnace and R-6 flexible ducts from other company. Sean patiently answered all my questions and tries to explain the process for their installation, what to replace and how some stuff works. Sean and Mike installed the units last November of 2016 and have been using it with ecobee2 thermostat and everything has been working well. We had been looking at getting our entire system replaced and had gotten a couple other quotes before being referred to Green Comfort from a friend. From the moment we met Sean (owner), what set him apart from the others is he didn't come in declaring we would need to get a bigger system and here is my list of fees. He first told us about who he is and about his company. He also does quite a bit of charity AC work which is really good to see and is an Army vet, which is where he was trained. He checked out our entire system top to bottom and asked us why we wanted it changed, and didn't try to talk us into changing it out. He took our financial concerns and constraints seriously. The first time he was at our house it was him looking at the system and talking to us. Then he actually calculated and drew up two quotes. One if we were to replace the ducting and keep the current system (totally doable) and one to replace the whole system, within our budget. This fact is very important because every other company never gave us the choice BUT to replace the system and they didn't write up an estimate but had pre- set prices. One was DOUBLE the cost and they never even measured or looked at anything. (ahem, costco). Sean was ALSO the first AC guy that told us we DIDN'T need a 5 ton system. Every other guy told us we needed a bigger (more expensive) system. Sean explained AC to us, if your duct work is poorly installed and not plotted out correctly then the air doesn't flow properly. Most guys will install a big system to force the air through, which makes the condenser work harder and shortens it's life span. (Again, costing you more money) So for our roughly 2100 sq. foot house we have a 4 ton condenser now. And it works GREAT! Think of your heart. No matter how hard your heart works if the arteries are clogged the heart will fail. Sean is an air flow geek master, and that is the guy you want. Make your house work smarter not harder! So we decided to get our system replaced, everything. Duct, AC and the heater. (We have an older house with slapdash work and systems and we had asbestos). Sean had a company come out to get the asbestos and he was here the whole time which was nice, to oversee the job. Now, we are homeschoolers and we were home while they were here working everyday.....schooling. But they were always here when they said they were going to be here, they worked quietly and CLEANLY. Sean and Matt (his partner), cleaned up thoroughly every time they left at the end of the day. They were pleasant to have around. Our attic is a tough attic, very low and small. The duct they installed and had to build looked amazing. Their work is meticulous and Sean is a perfectionist. He went above and beyond and I know he carries this work ethic to every job or task he tackles. After the job was completed he had a company come in to clean up, my house was left spotless and Sean worked around my schedule of having family fly in from out of state. He was so courteous and thoughtful of our schedule it made it stress free for us. It was something I have never had a company do from start to finish. Does the air work? Well, last summer on even a 90 degree day our house was a swampy, hot, stifling, death box and that was WITH the air running all day and all night long. Our average bill was 500 bucks a month. (no pool, single story). This year, we have had a few close to a hundred days (still early), our new air is AMAZING. For the first time in living in this house, it was comfortable. My air turned on cooled it down, and cycled down to a lower level, then shut off. Even our large room which is normally 10 degrees hotter cooled right down. The air flow worked just as Sean said it would. I think I can survive a Riverside summer now. So, I would heartily recommend him. It's nerve racking hiring an ac guy. They always seem to want to fleece you and you're never sure if they are being honest. (I had a guy come out once for a repair on the old one and he charged me 20 bucks for hosing down my unit for 30 seconds, that was his "cleaning") Sean is honest, thoughtful of his customers, his pricing is very fair and his work is impeccable. Buyer Beware! First, I used this service because they had great reviews and they were close in my area. Also, I mulled over even writing a review because I too have a responsibility to the end result in my experience with Green Comfort. Therefore here is the situation: I called to get a quote on fixing my A.C. Shawn answered right away and said he could be out in 15 minutes, since he was close by. he arrived as stated and was courteous. I explained that my A.C. wasn't cooling and the filter light was on. He located the unit and began to figure out what was wrong. he told me that my coils had dirt and gunk caked on them as if no filter was being used. He did find a filter in the system, but it was very deteriorated and of no good use. He then quoted me a price to clean the coils out. I told him to go ahead since I had a Yelp coupon to take some of the sting out of the cost. the price I heard and the price he remembers giving me became in question. Also, the gentleman that was checking the different circuits came across one part that was running below capacity and he suggested it be replaced so the motor would not have to work harder and possibly burn out. I asked, "how much am I looking at now?" Shawn quoted me a price lower that the first price he quoted with the coils. I made a comment about the second quote being less than the original and happily gave the go ahead to replace the part. All and all they worked for a couple of hours to complete the repairs, gave me a final total and I got them paid. Here's where I start to question giving them the go ahead in the first place because my final total turned out to be more that twice the price of either quote I received. I chalked it up to a miscommunication and paid the bill that I was told was finalized at $429. I am still figuring that my yelp coupon will ease the blow. Then I decide to review my bank account to make sure of the balance and I come across a $429 charge from Green Comfort! Where is the coupon applied? Will it show once the charge is finalized like at a restaurant? Lessons learned: * Get a quoted before ever having a repair man come to your door. ( I was just so surprised how fast he was willing to come out. who does'nt like ' now' as an answer?) * Always make sure prices quoted are in writing and you end up with an itemized bill. ( not just a neat bill with a final cost on it.) My final bill never showed the coupon being deducted or the cost for labor and parts. He just told me later when I called to question the coupon being applied that my actual cost was $503. so the final out of pocket was $429. *Be sure to question all verbal quotes thoroughly before giving the go ahead to do the repairs. Also ask for the replaced parts. I never got mine and don't even know that the part that needing replacing was done. Over all my A.C. is now working, my bank account is in need of repair, and this experience has left a very sour taste in my mouth. I believe that Green Comfort does fine work. I don't believe that they are fair priced and Shawn leaves too much in question when it comes to billing. I feel taken advantage of and will not be recommending doing business with this service. I think it is a business owners responsibility to be up front and detailed in there dealings with customers. this is the first.time I have ever needed this type of service and clearly didn't know what to expect. The guys are very knowledgeable needed a second opinion on our AC unit because we had another company come and inspect it, the other company said we needed a new air compressor which was wrong and would have cost us a lot of money. I called green comfort and spoke to Mike who was very nice, they showed up the next day and checked our unit and come to find out we didn't even need a new air compressor it was something that was simple to fix and they saved us a lot of money.
