Matcha cheesecake and original cheesecake from Green Cheese.

Green Cheese has got me all excited again about cheesecake. Green Cheese sells Japanese cheesecake. They have both the original flavor and then they have matcha. Yup, matcha. Things with matcha always taste good. The matcha cheesecake is sweet but not too sweet, and then gives hints of that grassy and leafy taste we look for in something that is matcha flavored. It's a nice palate cleanser and not something that you'll get sick of eating after a number of bites. Japanese cheesecake tends to be heavier on the stomach so don't go buying a whole cake to eat by yourself. The original cheesecake is also good however I just prefer things that have matcha. I don't hear much people talking about this place yet but hopefully people do. I hope this place stays around and becomes something the people in Manila pick up on and start looking for. Their cheesecake isn't too pricey and you can get two slices for around 100 pesos. You can find Green Cheese beside Liberation Shawarma in Hole in the Wall in Century City Mall. This will be my new go to dessert when I'm in Hole in the Wall. I also wouldn't mind having this for my birthday as long as it's the one with matcha.

    So fluffyyyy

This might be the best cheesecake I've ever had, and I'm not even exaggerating. Believe me, my taste buds dare not lie. Green Cheese is a small stall in Hole In The Wall in Century City Mall and their best sellers are their exquisite Japanese cheesecakes. Just having one bite of it will make you realize exactly why exactly it's such a big deal. The texture is soft and so fluffy that it melts in your mouth, almost like a mamon. But of course, gives more taste than a mamon. The taste of cream cheese isn't overpowering and just right to make you appreciate it. It's subtle on the tongue, almost like it's cleansing your palette. You won't even notice you've demolished half of the cake already. It's so light it doesn't feel like you're adding pounds. Not to mention that it's the happiest cheesecake in the world and who can argue with that?

Cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts! When I heard about this new cheesecake place, I just had to check it out myself. Initial thought - the stall looks so cute! The cheesecakes have such a cute appeal (with a smiley per cake)! When I got to try it though, it didn't wow me though! It tasted more like a mason that a cheesecake. It was so fluffy; I guess I'm just really used to cheesecakes that are dense. I found the price a bit too steep for what it was. It was good thing I split one slice with my friends when we visited this place. I got to try both flavors, preferring the matcha one. I find that I didn't taste the matcha so much! I think they should sprinkles match powder on top so that the flavor could be tasted more. I still am curious as to how good their smoothies are, they look pretty (well to the ones that I saw)!

And yes, I do get a lot of, "But whyyy?" reactions from people. That aside, I do get occasional cravings -- days when I just really need something sweet to cap off a big meal or a reward after a long day. Purple Oven is the perfect place to satisfy my dessert desires. I love the Chocolate Campfire cake, it's rich, moist, chocolate cake that topped with marshmallow icing. MARSHMALLOW ICING! I suppose you could take a slice and sandwich it between graham crackers and call it a smore. For days when you just need a little sweetness, try the double chocolate chip cookie, choclate macademia cookie or chocolate dipped cookie (where literally have the cookie is dipped in chocolate). They're pricey at P60/cookie but they're a little bigger than my palm and the chocolate chips ooze out when you bite into the cookie. There is no scrimping on ingredients in Purple Oven. The products here would also make great presents. They're hefty and have the wow factor because of their packaging. The chocolate crinkles, lemon squares, brownies and revel bars would be great to share at the office while the cakes would be awesome to bring home to family or to impress in-laws. Enjoy!

Guess what was delivered to our place? An EMPTY birthday cake. It ruined our family celebration. (picture attached) We were truly unsatisfied with your service, uncooperative, and neglected communication. We asked for refund, however, you mentioned that you can refund the amount paid for flower decorations. We even asked to even add at least delivery charge to the refund.... But still, only P800 for your mistake??? We feel that it is very unfair that we spent a lot on it, ordered it 5 days in advance, called everyday for update if you got the design, did our best to make communication work out on our end, and in the end a disaster. How could you let this happen? How could you give an empty birthday cake when we paid extra for each flower and mentioned the dedication? We are very disappointed that our order wasn't taken seriously. We hope other customers won't experience the same situation.

This caramel cake is not too sweet and has a light and fluffy chiffon base so you'll want to have another slice :3 Their cakes and other baked goods need to be pre-ordered at least a day before and picked up at their lovely home along Polaris St. Bel-Air, Makati. It's not convenient, but it's super worth the travel! I love how the staff can be accommodating sometimes especially when we just ordered on the day of pick up (oops), and words on the cake can be personalized (without character limit!). My family's usual order is the 9x12-inch caramel cake that's worth P1000 (with free personal message on cake and 1 candle). Not a bad deal when we know how much dedication and quality this homemade goodness is done (and taste) over the years. Highly recommend this to those who want a light cake for family and friends. Kudos to Costa Brava! ;)

But Purple Oven's decadent revel bars changed that opinion pretty quickly! When I moved to the area, I was happy to find out that it's just one tricycle ride away from my condo (and I've abused that ever since). It's always been my go-to bakery for special occasions. Of course, the revel bars are always a party hit, as well as their cakes. But I think their cookies are one of the best I've tasted! (And i've tried alot, mind you.) The chocolate macademia cookies don't scrimp on either, and is absolutely mouthwatering, especially when they're just fresh out of the oven! (You can cheat this by putting it in the oven really quickly, at the lowest setting so you won't burn anything.) Purple Oven doesn't just do desserts either! They've got a pretty good selection of bread and quiches! Perfect for a lazy brunch at home. Just pop em in the oven the next day, and they go so perfectly with some coffee or tea.

I love everything about that place, I could really spend hours just smelling their food and staring at their desserts. And it doesn't help that they actual load a new batch of goodies in the oven every hour (with a schedule posted on the chalkboard of what's cooking by what time), I think I sat there for half a day and didn't even notice I've been there that long. Whether you're in for a savory treat or a sweet-tooth satisfier, they have so much to choose from. My top picks are still Grandma's Chocolate Cake which has layers of caramel between moist, rich chocolate cake topped with chocolate ribbons and the Banoffee Pie which has a pie crust filled with banana, cream and butterscotch. If you want just a quick bite, then try their cookie selection. I love the chocolate macadamia, very chocolatey and chunky and not too sweet.

They have green plants on each table as a centerpiece. Currently, they have the cafe decked out in christmas decor of wreaths with glittery bright blue, purple and gold. The gift boxes come in a bright red color, very festive! They sort of highlight the store too since they are stacked in shelves behind the refrigerated cases. I convince my husband to spend a few mins to have a slice of cake and coffee. It only takes a few minutes to gobble up the cakes, im sure! I had the swiss chocolate cake that has the creamy meringue outside its chocolate sponge cake and honeycomb bits inside. Heaven! I swiped one of the two crinkles on my husband's plate. It was decadent! If you've never had chocolate crinkles before, you're missing out. Plus, I've been around and these are gold standard crinkles right here. The box of 24 is only 300 pesos! WORTH IT! We decided to get a box of 24 to eat later at home As I write this review, I just got home after two hours of driving. I have already polished 5/24 pcs. It had been left in the car for 5 hours before we actually headed home but it is amazingly soft and tastes freshly baked. I can't praise this bakery anymore than humanly possible. Just try it! The other branches might be closed but this one inside Valle Verde 1 village is still alive. On regular days they have plenty of lot parking in front of the basketball court.

In fact, it's still my mom's go to potluck contribution to any party or last minute Christmas gift to friends, as well as their addicting Chocolate Crinkles. If she ever comes home with any of them as a treat, I immediately zone in on the signature maroon box from Becky's and strategize the quickest way to get my hands on it then get to a safe place in the house where I wouldn't have to share. I'm happy they opened the branch in Valle Verde a while back because it's much nearer to where I live. What's more is that there's an actual dining area where you can have coffee and a slice of cake as opposed to their original branch in Taft with just the display cases, counter and some seating for waiting customers. If you have a chance to visit either location, I recommend their soft and flavorful Cheese Rolls and decadent Swiss Chocolate Cake in addition to their famous brownies and crinkles!
