My spicy piece of maki heaven.
    Reena G.

When a friend tells you they frequent a restaurant at least once a week, that's enough confirmation of how good the food is. Upon entering, we immediately see four Japanese men chatting away, eating and drinking sake. Again, another good sign. They give a bite of tuna spring roll with a semi-sweet sauce as appetizer for while guests wait for orders to come. I also appreciate that they really give cold towels as done in traditional Japanese restaurants. My sister and I split an order of gyoza and it was yummy! My sister had a bowl of ramen while our friends had a bowl of uni-topped rice bowls plus another appetizer. My order, the spicy salmon maki was scrumptious! The level of spice was just right and didn't linger in my mouth, allowing me to enjoy bite after bite. We ordered 2 glasses of iced green tea and 2 bottles of beer and got a bill of almost PhP 2,000. May sound a bit pricey, but I personally think the price point is rationalized because of the quality and taste of the food. Next time, I'll probably try the sushi and sashimi as we saw orders for other tables passing by and the sushi and sashimi looked really fresh and delectable.

    The best uni don!!

Keizo is my go to Japanese restaurant in The Fort. The food is ALWAYS consistent and the owner, Yoshi, is always around to give smile and oversee his staff, making sure that everything is just right. Though if I were to go for Japanese, the offering in Little Tokyo's restaurant is more diverse, and arguably better, but since I live in the area, I'm always at Keizo. The staff are pretty good here too and I like that each meal comes with a small free appetizer, warm towel, and green tea. The uni here is really amazing and also pretty cheap. The uni don costs just over 300 bucks and it contains all the uni you could desire. They also have good individual sushi and the chirashi is really bomb. It's a really small restaurant, but they just recently opened another branch just a stone's throw away. Also, if you want a front row view to the action, sit at the sushi bar! If you're a wine drinker, you're going to have to settle for sake and Japanese beer though.

    Sashimi Platter for 2-3 people

Keizo is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The sashimi is always fresh (even though sometimes they're out of the types I like). The sashimi platter is a good deal with Hamachi, Sake, Maguro, Uni, Ika, and Tako. The combination sometimes varies, depending on what they have in stock. Their ramen leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not really a ramen place so that's okay. The winner, for me, is their line of curry dishes. I've heard that the Japanese owner makes his own curry everyday. I've had it and even though I'm not a big Japanese curry fan, I liked it. The service is great and the owner's almost always smoking outside the door, ready to greet you when you come in and thank you when you leave. They also serve complimentary hot or cold genmaicha.

Amazing food! The uni bowl and waygu cubes were mind blowing. We were staying in bcg for 3 days and had dinner there 2 of the 3 nights.

This hole in the wall of a Japanese place arguably has some of the best Japanese food I've had in Manila in a while.

Ooma is a well known Japanese restaurant that offers fusion dishes that fits the Filipino palate. They have three locations in Manila but we decided to dine at their SM Megamall branch. We were told to expect long lines at all Ooma locations but we got lucky to be seated right away. The hostess greeted us right promptly and the entire staff were all friendly, fast, and efficient. We were very pleased with excellent customer service provided. The food? OOMAGOD! I loved every single dish we ordered. From sushi to soft shell crab to hangar steak to dessert. I didn't bother knowing the names because I just went on chomping and devouring every dish brought to our table. They tasted as good as they looked. It's just WOW! Amazing food yet very affordable. Highly recommended!

Japanese resto on the third or fourth floor of this mall and the place is similar to a small sushi place here in Toronto with only about 10-15 tables that extend inside the mall so you can 'people watch' while you munch on some fresh well-handled ingredients. The chicken teriyaki dinner was served on a bed of fresh leafy greens with bomb teriyaki sauce drizzled on top that can activate salivation in an instant. The sushi rolls were compact with flavour and filling that is heavily squished between master hands and a wooden roller perfecting a trip coming to an end in my beautiful city. I forget which ones we ordered but we came near closing and the options were limited to what's available for the chef to make so we settled for what it is, but it never felt like settling. Service was also warm despite us bombarding into the server's wishful thinking in getting the restaurant cleaned and empty in time for clocking out. Please refer to the pictures taken as all of the above have imprinted quality sushi in our minds whenever we are back for some shopping next visit. A bit on the pricier side compared to other cheaper options in and out the mall but it's equivalent to paying $60 and on par with the a la carte restos here in Toronto.

Just enter the sliding door and, I promise you, you will experience authentic Japanese cuisine. Their menu has a variety of appetizers, ramens, sushi, sashimi, yakitori, and katsus. Of all the dishes I must order, it is their Uni Nigiri (Php95 per piece, 2USD). The Uni they serve is always very sweet and fresh. I usually order a few robata (grilled) items such as their Butabara Shio (Php85 per stick, 1.84USD) and Yakitori (Php75 per stick, 1.62USD) to go with their Onigiri Sanshu (3 Kinds of Rice Balls for Php345, 7.46USD). If you really want to go all out, I recommend you order their Chirashi Don (Php650, 14USD), the sashimi will depend on the delivery of the day. They also offer premium sakes to cap of your meal. This is an honest to goodness wonderful Japanese restaurant. If you're in Ortigas, forget those pseudo Japanese restaurants in the malls and head on over to Marufuku. :)

It's usually always better quality and tasty. Im not talking about japan good which is always a 10/10 but this was more like a 8/10 and the pricing made it 9/10 lol. There was not a negative thing I could say about the times I visited and ate lol my husband did I am sure get tired of it. He's more into Filipino food of course but usually if you grow up in the provinces food like this place isn't a daily or weekly thing so for him he got tired of it quickly lol I went to the one at MOA near the road entrance and the location at SM Baguio and both were fantastic! You do not have to talk to anyone lol which is more of my style. You click and choose what you want on the TV screen and it comes out to you. If it is a drink or larger item like a soup, they will hand deliver it but it's a quick drop and go kind of thing. There is a hot water spout at your table with matcha (which isn't the best grade) but it works lol Air con worked, it was never really "busy" when we went. Only a few tables but I'm sure it's because everyone was working at the times when we went.
