Great bar food, unique soups each day and all the traditional fare. Never had a bad meal, stiff drinks and friendly staff.

The service is extremely friendly/efficient and the dining area is immaculate. Food is excellent! I had the special tabouli salad and it was perfect. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their meals and the desserts were fantastic as well. I might be in a slight diabetic coma after eating way too much of the amazing chocolate layer cake.... Juniper is open for dinner as well. Evening entrées look very inviting and I look forward to returning soon.

My prosciutto wrapped cod in corn chowder was excellent! They carry Harney and Sons teas which is great! Unfortunately neither of our tea services were served with cream and sugar/honey. I wish I could say nice things about the desserts but unfortunately I can't. Neither of them were good. The crust on the coconut custard pie tasted bitter and burnt even though it wasn't burnt. Just not sure what happened there, unless the crisco to make the crust was old? The lemon tart didn't taste like anything really, definitely not lemon. It was buried in powdered sugar so it just tasted like a mouthful of sugar. It did come with the tiniest little dollop of whipped cream. I definitely wish there was a healthier portion of that because that and the fresh berries on the side were the best parts.

My onion rings were nicely seasoned and crispy. Only issue was medium was on the well done side and one of us ordered a little on the pink side which we got but given to the wrong person. Cook should put a mark to avoid confusion. We will try again some time when in town.

Wallie's is located in Greenwich (NY - pronounced GREEN-wich) which is just over the Hudson from Schuylerville and about 20 minutes from Saratoga Springs. Well worth the drive. I was told that the restaurant has been around a long time (one of our friends used to go there with his parents as a youngster), but was closed for many years. The current owners did a fabulous renovation job! It's well beyond tavern quality. If they upgraded the seating to plush chairs, you would think you walked into a five-star dining establishment. Our food and beverages did not disappoint. My hubs and I ordered Whiskey Sours which were truly authentic. I'm a martini gal and hadn't had one in years - it was delicious. We shared the Calamari appetizer which was perfectly fried, crispy and not greasy, and the perfect size portion for two. It was accompanied with a thick marinara. We thoroughly enjoyed their house special, Prime Rib (offered in 10 or 14 ounce portions), which was cooked to perfection (rare). The beef was offered with horseradish or horseradish cream (or both!). The mixed vegetables that accompanied the meat were fresh and not overcooked. There was also a baked potato. We were too full to sample dessert. Next time! Our server was accommodating and the timing of delivery of our food was a bit slow (there were only two other tables with patrons) but we were not in a hurry so we didn't mind. Wallie's was a superb find. You won't find better prime rib anywhere. Their menu is limited but they cover all the bases. Items are reasonably priced. I do hope they expand their offerings - or add specials (which they didn't have last night) - to get locals and other regulars to dine there more often. Having said that, it's the prime rib that draws our friends to this place (a 15-20 minute drive from Stillwater). Wallie's bar area is charming. Warm and cozy with bar and table seating. They also have off-street parking. This place is a winner!

Under new ownership, the former Salem Tavern was sold and renovated. Railroad Street Tavern had…read moretheir soft opening in February 2024. Like before, this family-run place has a casual bar area in the back and the dining room in the front of the house with kitchen in the middle section. The renovated bar area has seating up at the bar (12 high seats) and limited table seating than before in both the bar area and dining room with ample space for more tables, probably so they don't get too overwhelmed as they just opened. The soft opening menu seems streamlined with a limited selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, pasta dinners, and bar steak. The pricing is moderate here. The bar offers 9 draft beers (there are 12 taps), wine, liquor, and mixed drinks. After hearing about the soft opening for the Railroad Street Tavern, I made a Google* reservation earlier in the day for 7:30pm, since I was passing through Salem later that evening. They are now encouraging phone reservations. When I arrived 20 minutes early, every table and every high seat at the bar was occupied. It took about 12 minutes for seats to open up at the bar. I was given a soft opening menu and offered a drink (got ice water). I quickly decided on the Chicken Parm with penne & bread ($22 plus tax) and added a side salad ($3 plus tax) with homemade ranch dressing. However, the food took a while to come out with others waiting a long time for their food, 50 minutes for my food to come out. My main entree came out first, then the side salad next and then two slices of bread & butter, only after I requested since bread should be included according to the menu. The portions were generous with the chicken parm oven baked in a casserole dish and the penne in a separate deep bowl. The chicken parm was actually baked boneless chicken pieces (not breaded?) smothered with a tasty red sauce topped with a browned layer of melted mozzarella cheese. The penne pasta was cooked just right with a chunky homemade tomato sauce. The side salad had fresh greens, tomatoes, carrots & onions with the creamy ranch on the side. The bread slices were soft and dense. I was so hungry, that I was able to finish everything and then requested the check which was $25.68 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food I had tasted very good and the service was hectic since the place was seated at capacity in both areas. I did have to wait longer than a typical dining experience since the kitchen was overwhelmed and food items trickled out of the kitchen to be served. I would definitely come back once the kinks are worked out and the menu is expanded. I did see other food items come out such as the steamed mussels piled high, thick buffalo chicken wraps, chicken BLT and the hand cut shoestring fries. Those portions were very generous as reflected in the moderate pricing. And their homemade seafood gumbo soup got rave reviews from the customers sitting next to me, which I almost thought about getting with my dinner, but I didn't want to wait any longer than I had to and I barely finished all of my ordered meal.

I ate the chicken parmesesn which was delicious and I would definitely order it again. It was a great portion size and I loved their sauce. My friend got the bacon blue cheese burger which was super decadent and rich. Their patty itself was cooked perfectly and then the toppings made it even better. I would definitely come back and try other burgers.
