Would have been nice to also prebook my seat. The cinema needed a vacuum and a clean as it seems they just played back to back movies. The thing that saved the rating was it was almost empty so finding seats wasn't difficult. All in all a reasonable experience. Lost a star due to cleanliness on the night and not being able to prebook my seat after paying a premium.

Every time you visit a soulless megaplex after your time at Hayden Orpheum it will be a singularly disappointing experience bereft of any aesthetics or cultural value because really, how can anything compare? The cinemas are stunning art deco, they sell old-school choc tops, there's a solid program of the latest blockbusters and art house / doco fare, and they have insanely fun cult classics like a monthly interactive showing of the word movie ever made, The Room. There are love seats in the main cinema, and a freaking organ that rises up out of the floor for matinee performances. I know right! What what all the way. Best.

The Orpheum has kept it's gorgeous original deco interiors and exteriors intact, and the last time I visited (John Cleese triple bill including the Life Of Brian on Easter Sunday- kudos Orpheum!), there was a vintage pianist playing the grand piano in the lobby. I would love to see a silent movie thing here and I would bet money that they do them, it's that kind of place. Check out retro cinema Sundays- awesome and affordable triple bills that people dress up for. Old school wholesome entertainment, I love it.

The cinema has its own cafe located just before the screening hall. The cafe offers a range of beverages from tea and coffee to alcohol. So it makes it convenient to grab a quick bite before entering. The seating for the cafe has a great view onto the ice rink too so that's pretty cool. This cinema offers Gold Class too for those who want to splurge out and get those sexy reclining sofas that go all the way back. The cinema has about 8 screens so you have plenty of movies to choose from throughout the day. The cinema doesn't seem to have any V-max screens which is very surprising considering it's almost a must now to watch the latest blockbuster with surround sound and a huge screen. There's a bar/cafe thing in addition to the usual candy bar, though you have an abundance of cafes and supermarkets to choose from if you want to sneak some cheaper and better coffee and snacks in. The screens are...big (as usual??) and the chairs usually clean enough, though try to avoid losing things down the gap between the seat and the arm rest. It's...just...don't.

Plus it's lined with mirrors so you can check out yourself or others on the way up. Which sounds way creepier than I meant it to. They funnel you past the candy bar as you go up (no prices on display last time I went although this may have changed, which is annoying because I want to know how much I'm getting slugged for those sweet, sweet choc tops and gummi bears). The cinemas are big, they're clean every time I go, and you get to collapse into a cushy chair and forget about life over 2 hours of escapism. Yay movies!

My family abruptly vacated mid movie yesterday evening after seeing 2 rats under the seats. Worse still the staff , and the manager on last night , were well aware of the rats. Said there were rat traps in the cinema but it was hard to eradicate the rats . Said there had been a rat sighting/ complaint a month ago . (see Google reviews, I'm not the only one to have seen RATS in the Warringah mall HOYTS cinemas . someone else reported rats in cinema 6 . ) last night the manager on duty refused to alert the remaining movie goers in cinema 5 , leaving them unawares they were sitting with rats around them . He also refused to give me his name , although he had all MY details. HOYTS management need to disclose they have a vermin problem, close down any affected cinemas and exterminate the rat infestation until such time as it's sanitary & safe for the public to sit in their theatre/s .

Even though we had just travelled about 24 hours, we decided a movie would be a nice way to kill said time. I thought it would be a nice nap time but the movie was interesting and none of us slept. This theater is odd but interesting. You buy tickets at the concession stand. I wish I had tried the popcorn but I assumed I might not be awake so eating was out. The theaters are spread around the floor in different pockets of the area, so it's more like walking to a different shop. Even though it was a matinee, we were told it was mostly sold out and that we'd have to sit in the second row. This worried me but the person selling the tickets said it's where they prefer to sit and, again, I assumed I'd sleep so we agreed. We sat in theater 11 and lone behold, it wasn't going to be a problem because the screen is far away and there's a good amount of space between the front row and the screen. The other unique thing about this room was there was a large window. I've never seen this in a movie theater before and it was cool. Don't worry, the drapes, once closed, were nice and thick and let no light in. The seats were comfy and did manually recline. I only like to recline if there's a leg rest though so I didn't do that.
