Stayed July 7th, 2018…read more I don't mind inexpensive, old, run down, but clean roomed motels. This fits the bill. The air conditioner made noise, but didn't blow cool air. The woman at the desk was almost hostile so I didn't think it worth asking for another room. The room was basic, with a 90s tv we didn't turn on. The beds were fair - the kind that bend when you sit down. The sheets were old, thin but clean. The bedspreads were almost quiltlike - made out of real, fairly thick material - rather than the shiny, satiny material normally found in inexpensive motels. I don't know whether this is good or bad. Mike Rowe in "Dirty Jobs" takes the bed spreads off the bed in every motel he stays in. He doesn't trust what's happened on them. There were two bath towels, no more, no less. The price was a total of $104 for two queen beds. I asked what the cost was in the winter and the unfriendly innkeeper said $69 plus taxes, etc. The front desk area was cluttered and filthy. There were animal heads on the wall behind the stone faced lady that hadn't been dusted since the 60s. Off to the right of the woman's shoulder was a calendar with the face of Donald Trump glaring pugnaciously at you. I didn't read the bold phrase underneath his head. The next cheapest motel with rooms was $170 or so. I would stay here again, but would look at the room first and make sure the AC worked.

I called down to the front desk, and the person there was obviously unsettled by that. She offered to tell housekeeping, but never offered an apology. The next day we left out the sign on the room door asking for "stay over service". We arrived back to find the room had not been refreshed. I called down and the person once again offered to tell housekeeping. I'm sorry, but if you call yourself a "resort" and charge nearly $300 per night, you darn well better provide exceptional service! Great people here, there are several helpful hosts to show you around, point out the great food/ restaurants, hikes, maps and points of interest in this lovely town. If you've been in hostels you already know this; it's also a good place to cook your own food, share books and save some money. Rates are lower than hotels by 30-70%. If you add in being able to cook you own meals/ snacks there is another big savings. You can use the refrigerator and washer and dryer too. There are a variety of types accommodations, private rooms and bunkhouses (bunk beds), showers and toilets are down the hall. A hostel? Not everyone's thing... but this place is clean and friendly. I like talking to people from all over and I love the music from the LPs and yummy meals being cooked and food served on a variety of mismatched plates, bowls, and cups. We loved our stay at the Cottonwood cabin. It was an unplugged getaway and this place hit the…read moreright vibe. The cabin itself is a historic one that was moved to this location, that being said it is both incredibly cute and quirky. The log cabin itself felt cozy and rustic. The hot springs pool in the back was amazing and relaxing. It was clean, clear and warm the entire time we were there (they do give you a hose to cool it down as needed). I found it private. Now, that does not mean there is nobody around. The other cabin (Hortense) is nearby and you can see houses up on the mountains behind the house (plus a few more in the valley). We heard a couple voices from Hortense (nothing loud) and we did briefly see the dogs people mentioned (although it was like a quick run through the yard when we were eating lunch inside). We did not have a problem with privacy or noise - it was all peaceful. The cabin has a nice living room upstairs (and a bedroom with 2 twins we did not use). They also have a variety of board games and cards (which we definitely used). Downstairs is the queen bedroom, the kitchen (with stove, micro, dishwasher, fridge and all you need) and a very, very, very tiny bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. It is a very old cabin and the floors are a bit slanted. I didn't think it was that bad, although around the bathroom a lot of different flooring met and there was some unevenness. The bathroom is the only thing I did not care for. It was impossibly small. Showering in that stall was downright claustrophobic. It wouldn't stop me from renting again, but it was what I took a star off for. Still, overall it was a wonderful stay. No TVs, just wi-fi. Plenty of beautiful views, hot springs and and awesome relaxing can be found here. It is also literally just down the street from Mt. Princeton. Love it!
