I'm going to keep this review short and simple: -Great host -Great Hostel (especially all the local artwork) -Clean and relatively cheap -A block or two away from Amica's brewery STAY HERE!!!!!! rather than the hotels on the main strip of highway 50. Much more comfortable,so much cheaper, you meet other people doing the same thing that you are, and you really experience the atmosphere of a small mountain town...Plus you can cook your own bacon in the morning to go with your pancakes, what's there not to like!?!

Clean, friendly and fun!!! This is the best place to stay in Salida, especially if you are skiing nearby. Oh yeah, it's cheap, too! They have wifi, comfy chairs, nice beds and (okay) showers. If you don't want to cook your own food, you are in luck because there are plenty of places to eat nearby!! 5 stars for sure.

Anthony totally took care of us, making sure we were comfortable at our site which was right by the river. We locked ourselves out of the trailer late on Saturday night. We called the after hours number and the host, Megan, called Anthony. IAnthony offered to take us to a hotel and call a locksmith in the morning. Our keys, purses, chargers, etc. were locked in the trailer. To make a long story short, he helped us break into the trailer. The next morning he came back and repaired the lock that we broke to get in. When he was done, it looked like new. Anthony refused any money, he did all this on his own time. The restrooms were amazing!! The whole camp was very clean and accommodating. Everyone was very nice and shared positive vibes. This is now our favorite place to stay when we are in the Salida, Buena Vista area. They have a fun gift shop and they help you with rafting trips, hot spring excursions, etc. The town of Salida is nearby and has cute stores, restaurants, and river access. I HIGHLY recommend Chalk Creek Campground. What could have been a terrible weekend that first time out, turned out to be a wonderful weekend thanks to Anthony and to Megan's hospitality. Anthony restored my faith that there are some truly nice people in this world. .

We are Messianic/1st century Christians that celebrate the Hebrew Festivals so finding places we can trust with the "set apart" vibes is super important to us. First off, I love that this campsite is still owned by a family VS a corporation! The owner Megan is so sweet and really does her best to manage the grounds and create a great experience for her customers. Her staff Ron, Jan, Jason, Jeremy, Michael, Luke, Joyce, and Anthony (everyone I can think at the moment) really makes this place feel like a home away from home. Great location: We personally like camping in tents down at the lower level. Yes, there is a road that can be heard because it's directly behind the site but who cares?! I think it's in a really convenient place in between Salida (20 minutes away) and Buena Vista (7 minutes away). The beautiful river that runs through is really pretty sounding most of the time! I go straight to sleep hearing the babbling brooks and occasional fish plopping out of the waters Facilities and convenience: The wifi is great! I believe they use starlink now! I like to park ny truck at the upper level to finish any work emails/calls or watch movies The showers do require quarters but I won't complain because they get really hot, really fast. I've never had any issues with having hot water here. Also, the bathrooms stay really clean and the laundry room next door is super convenient. We like to shop in the front store for stuff when we run out of basics. Saves time and money not having to go to the grocery store! Dog friendly: We have a small dog (terrier and Chihuahua mix) that gets pretty yappy when she sees other dogs but what dogs don't freak out when they see other dogs? The poop stop for her at the upper level is great to let her do her business when other dogs aren't around. We dont have any kids with us but we see families come with kids all of the time and they seem really happy playing lots of outdoor games in the fields! The campsite also hosts bingo on weekends and kids have lots of fun playing. God bless this place!

All the staff are super nice and have great suggestions on things to do, places to go for adventures and/or food. It was initially a little hard to find because it's situated in between two dispensaries and a liquor store, but if you need any of that, you won't even need to walk very far. (They have a designated 420 area if you're into that.) Accommodations were clean, with ample outlets, hooks to hang stuff on (two per bunk), and large lockers. I stayed in a coed room with 6 beds adjoined to another coed room with 7 beds and only had issues one night with a guy who breathed (not even snored) loudly enough that he actually woke me up. (I say this only because I've slept through a generator exploding.) That being said, there are free earplugs at the front desk, and you can't control for the other tenants. I expect a little of this since it comes with hostel living, so it was fine. I still managed to climb the Manitou Incline, do two hikes in the Red Rock Canyon Open Space and re-climb Pulpit Rock the next day, so it didn't affect me too much! They also have female-only rooms (which is what I usually book, but I think they were out of those at the time that I booked), private rooms, and rooms to accommodate larger groups. (~$38-42/night) There's free breakfast in the morning (pretty simple with cereal, milk, bread, English muffins, peanut butter, butter, jam, honey, quick oats, coffee and tea), and cubbies for food--you can also store food/drinks in the fridge. There's also a common area with comfy couches/bean bags, books, movies, and board games + a patio area with hammocks, chairs, and a giant Jenga set. Free WiFi and parking on site (first-come, first-served). Bike rentals are free (I heard there was a trail nearby but I didn't end up going because I had too much other stuff planned). In terms of group activities... Monday - movie night Tuesday - tacos/beer night at nearby bar Wednesday - yoga Thursday - drum circle Friday - bonfire Saturday - trail/local cleanup/bbq Sunday - pancakes + local coffee I can only speak for Monday night through Thursday morning (aka the amount of time I stayed), but I had a great time! I'm especially a fan of hostels when I'm traveling alone since I get to meet other people who are also traveling and often end up getting to make friends with people all over the world. On the whole, everyone else I met was awesome, and we ended up all going out to a nearby bar on my last night here where we enjoyed burgers, drinks, beach volleyball, pool, and darts. Twas a good time, and I definitely hope to be back sometime!

There's also no onsite laundry but there's a laundromat down the road and an RV park that's closer that advertises laundry even closer. I didn't really partake in the social atmosphere as I was very tired, and the people there seemed older. It is certainly not a young person party hostel. However, my friend I came with previously came a year ago and made good friends. The main issue that my friend and I felt made our stay uncomfortable was the restrooms. They don't have stall doors for the toilets. They just have a flimsy curtain that you can't secure in place, which was super awkward and made me feel on edge every time I was in there. Their showers also don't have doors, but that is more acceptable. We stayed in an 8-bed mixed dorm, and it was comfortable. I really liked how they have full-size vertical lockers with keys that you can use for storage. When we checked in, they said one of us had to be on the bottom bunk and one on the top. It worked out for us, but if there are other beds available it doesn't seem fair if both people have a preference for a bottom bunk just because you are friends. People in hostels are usually solo travelers anyways and need to share a bunk bed combo with a stranger.

It has a big kitchen, big living room, big lawn, and big den downstairs with TV/couches and a ping pong table. It's clean-ish, pretty much your standard hostel. The showers were a pleasant surprise - quite clean actually on the ladies' side so that was a huge relief! The beds were simple bunks in the room I was in, and I was top bunk. Low ceiling so I couldn't sit all the way up but I could most way; i was also right by a water pipe so I could hear water running every time someone showered etc, but I stilled crashed from exhaustion/Im a heavy-ish sleeper. The room was a bit warm; with the window open it was way too cold so it was a wee bit stuffy but again nothing too bad. I slept fine overall, it was pretty decent as far as a hostel experience goes. Overall - if you're coming in late and leaving early for like 1 night (which I was), this hostel will serve your needs fine! But it is restrictive in how much you can move around/put your stuff in shared rooms so bear that in mind. Parking also interesting -- you can park along the south-west fences surrounding the place but when I came at 9p on a sat, there were no spots. I briefly parking across the street on Alder (to the west), but the folks who own the home came out and informed me i couldn't stay but COULD park by the stop sign across the street on 7th (to the south). The hostel said it was fine too, and I parked there overnight and nothing bad happened (ie towing). Overall: this place is fine for a short stay as far as I'm concerned! But you get what you pay for.
