It seems that hotels in Salida suffer from grade and PRICE inflation. Most hotels/motels there were highly STAR rated, high priced but had manifold negative comments, and once we saw them in person we could understand why, most were dumps. We chose the Comfort Inn which was the least dumpy place and one of the more expensive. It was OKAY, with a decent breakfast, somewhat dated but clean rooms, indoor pool (we didn't use) and the most peculiar layout, the ONLY elevator is at the OPPOSITE end of the quite long building from the Reception/Check-in desk and breakfast area. Salida itself is an absolutely lovely town. read more

Mick at reception was really helpful. He gave us a suite for three guys travelling on motorcycles and went to great lengths to get us settled. I have written in my travel blog how most staff at these chains do not give a flying hoot. For Mick I take that back big time. We chose to stay at Comfort Inn/Salida this past ski season because it offers our favorite sports channels (our usual hotel, Hampton Inn, does not.). The property is well maintained, the rooms are comfortable and the free breakfast is convenient. However, a few times during the 3:00 pm check in, no desk clerk was available (he had to be paged). The wait was as long as 20 minutes until the desk clerk answered the page. This is not acceptable for anyone. This hotel is definitely understaffed and this unfriendly "welcome" does not bode well for weary travelers. I only hope this situation will be rectified next ski season. Otherwise, I would rate this hotel more favorably. read more

Yes, it's an older hotel but it's actually pretty nice. The woman who checked us in and was working pretty much everytime we happened to leave is very polite. She asked where we were headed and if we needed directions and what not and made sure to tell us to have a good time! She also told us to let her know if there was anything she can help with. Not too often will you see that at a hotel. Most of the people who work in hotels are like robots "yep...thanks.... have a good day", that's not like that here! Their breakfast... ok, last time I stayed at a Hilton we paid $13 per person to have breakfast and it was not great. This breakfast definitely topped any other hotel breakfast and without that hefty price per person. To give you some ideas of what they had....bacon (who doesn't love bacon?!), biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, cereal, eggs and cheese, just to name a few items. Staying here right now. This is a clean hotel. That's the biggest plus. A downside is the shower head is level with my chin. I'm nearly 6' so the taller people will have some challenges. Staff is friendly and includes a breakfast. read more

It was pretty much what a well-run Comfort Inn should be. I feel kind of funny about giving a modest motel five stars, but it does not pretend to be any more than that, and so it fulfills its promise. Rooms were clean, no funky smells, staff gave us extra towels so we could go to Hot Springs Pool facility. Breakfast was typical fare plus green chili to slather on scrambled eggs or whatever else you might want to do with chili. Pastries were a little tired. I actually wish motels would quit doing breakfasts and give me a good excuse to find greasy spoon cafes, but I am in the minority. read more

Door lock broken, parking lot too small for vehicles(though I called ahead of time), bathroom door wouldn't open without hitting toilet, mold/mildew in bathroom, creepy stains on chair, HVAC unit repaired with duck tape. We've been staying in Comfort Inns the past 2 nights and this hotel has an older feel to it, however it does not mean that it is not enjoyable. Our room was very big and the people running the hotel are very friendly. We did enjoy the indoor swimming pool but the hot tub was too warm to enter. The selection for breakfast was small, but it is understandable considering we're in the low season. We noticed that there was some special care taken to make the food display appealing (all the creamers were facing up!). read more

I was told this is a pet friendly hotel and paid the $50 deposit to have my 2 small dogs. In the morning I went to the breakfast area to grab some food to go with my dogs and a drunk woman with no shoes or socks on came in there with her daughter also no shoes or socks and was taunting my dogs causing them to bark and then yelled at me that I'm supposed to control my dogs? I felt like the woman was so angry and belligerent she was going to attack me! There was no sign saying dogs aren't allowed in there. The woman from front desk came in and heard everything because the front desk is right next door to the breakfast area and did noting in my defense except tell me my dogs weren't allowed in there I guess to appease the angry drunk. She didn't say anything to the angry drunk woman who was violating health code not having footwear on. I later confronted the front desk woman who also was smoking right outside the entrance and her smoke was blowing inside the lobby as the automatic doors open and closed. and she apologized and offers me $50 back for the pet deposit. This confrontation should never have happened and she should have intervened to keep the peace and she failed. Other than that the hotel is expensive and just ok walls are paper thin and you can hear noises and the bathroom was dated bed is somewhat comfortable not the best. But the biggest concern I have is that I really didn't feel safe there though with the other guest being hostile towards me and the staff doing nothing about it. One of the perks was they did have a plant based breakfast sandwich I thought was really good. But feeling like someone is drunk and going to attack you because you have dogs with you is not a good feeling. I also hate cigarette smoke and the front desk manager smoking by the entrance was repulsive to me. read more

I stay at lots of Comfort Inns all over the country for my work. This one is pretty average, but was overpriced for its class. We paid $149 plus tax for a very plain room with two queen beds. They would not give a AAA rate the night we were there As another reviewer said, the room had no fridge or microwave. One thing I liked was that there were two sinks, which is very handy when staying with my family on vacation. One oddity about this hotel is that, although it has two stories, there is no elevator! Can't say I've ever seen that in a Comfort Inn before, so if stairs are a problem for you, better make sure your room is on the first floor. read more

The pool and hot tub at the Comfort Inn in Salida Colorado is disgusting! It is brown! When we asked to talk to a manager the manager's teenage daughter came in and said the paint had chipped off and it's too expensive to repaint. So now there is paint in the pool? I wonder if there is lead in the old paint? I asked for a partial refund due to the condition of the pool and hot tub and I was rudely told "no". Then I said I want to check out and get my money back, again I was told "no" and I think she might have laughed at me and she also said there is not a manager available to talk to till tomorrow. It's Friday of Memorial Day weekend and the manager isn't available? The next morning there was a note that was put under the door of my sister's room from the Night Audit person. The note apologized for the "miscommunication" and said, "that the pool was remodeled 3 months ago to look like sand". So now there are 2 stories and the second story sounds strange. Even though the manager's daughter was super rude and lacks any customer service skills I do believe she was honest about the paint chipping off. The positive is I like hard beds and this hotel has hard beds. However, because the disgusting pool, bad service and the manager never talk to us as we requested and the did not refund any money due to the condition of the pool I give the Salida Comfort Inn 1 Star. Don't stay here! There are way nicer hotels with nice pools and honest customer service in Salida for the same price or less! read more

Awesome! Maybe a bit pricey but worth it. Convenient to get to downtown. There are a few good restaurants and liquor stores around. The staff was friendly and the rooms are huge. I scoped breakfast but like to go out. It looked decent. Free parking and wifi. There is a pool and hot tub but didn't use them. The bed and pillows were some of the best I have slept on. read more

Be forewarned if you are disabled that this hotel has NO ELEVATORS. We didn't know this until after we booked the room, and since it was their last room (and one of the last ones in town) we were stuck. Also, there was no mini fridge in our room, so the food we were traveling with spoiled (so much for saving money there). The staff were nice, and the place was spotlessly clean, but the walls were quite thin and the tourists next door with their 900 snotty offspring woke us up early with all their banging and running up and down the halls. read more

On July 15th we stayed at the Comfort Inn on 315 E. Rainbow Blvd. - US 50 in Salida, Co. We had reserved it earlier in the day and arrived late in the evening. We arrived, and the desk clerk and her two daughters were working. One of the daughters started checking us in and when she pulled up the room said that it showed it wasn't clean. The clerk said there must be a mistake and pulled the card on it, she read it and looked funny, and said it was the only room they had remaining, then she said it was clean just wasn't marked that way. We found out why it was listed as dirty and hadn't been booked earlier, when we walked in it literally smelled like someone died in it. My wife almost gagged and we had nowhere else to go. We opened the window, turned on the bathroom vent fan and sprayed cologne around the room, it just wouldn't go away or be covered up. I finally decided to go out to our vehicle where we had a brand-new sealed car air freshener. I came back in and asked for a piece of tape, went to the room and taped it on the air conditioner so the air was blowing over it. That's when I noticed something catch my eye in the air conditioner. Someone had taken the air conditioner cover off and put a car air freshener that clips on the air vents and clipped it INSIDE the air conditioner. That tells me they KNEW there was a problem and still chose to book us into the room when we had no choice to go anywhere else. We tried to sleep but it was horrible, we got up early and left not even wanting to eat breakfast there after that. I kept waiting for a review questionnaire to be emailed to me but it never came, good thing. read more

The room was a bit pricey, but it was large and clean. The woman who checked us in was quick and pleasant. Our room had a sink in the bathroom, and another outside the bathroom. The latter was plugged up when we arrived, so my husband went to the front desk to report it. Perhaps this is not uncommon there, as he was handed a plunger!!! No big deal, though. We got a chuckle out of it, and he quickly had the drain in working order. My husband enjoyed his breakfast, but there were no scrambled eggs left after the 3 men ahead of me finished them off. I waited 20-30 minutes for dining room staff to come out, notice the empty pan, and bring a "refill", but no one did. By then, breakfast time was nearly over, so I finished my glass of juice and a sausage link, and my husband and I headed to Starbuck's so I could buy a sausage and egg sandwich. I would stay here again, but plan on getting to the dining room for breakfast earlier. Still, giving 4 stars as it was an otherwise enjoyable stay. read more

I stayed here for over a month in November and early December of 2015. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and ready to make my experience with them a good one. Housekeeping was respectful of items that were left in the room when they came in to clean. I arrived with a reservation for one king handicapped room with a walk in shower. Night clerk looked at me like I was crazy. She told me I had a double queen. I did not. She told me to try the Hamden Inn down the road, more expensive. No apology. No customer service skills. (Strike one). I knew about the Baymont so I went there. They had a room but at last minute cost me $15 more than an advance room at Comfort Inn was. Why she didn't she point me to the Baymont? Probably because of the Baymonts superior customer service and competitive pricing. Great stay at the Baymont. On the way out of town I brought this to the attention of the day manager. I showed room info from print out from email. I got the obligated "I'm so sorry; I'll pass this on to the GM". (Strike two).She called me latter and said the GM would put 2,000 point in my account. GM would not communicate to me direct on this serious matter. (Strike three). I told manager that was a worthless offer and the GM could email me with a better one. Yep, no email. I had a few very minor issues (wife is handicapped and I find these issues at most motels) at the Baymont and the Day manager had the GM talk to me direct. WOW service at the Baymont. As this is or would have been my first stay at a Comfort Inn, I had no points. 8,000 points equals one night at the lowest price room. (Strike four). Conclusion: Comfort Inn reservations worthless. And if you're handicapped they would send you out rather than find you a room somewhere else. This comfort Inn has zero customer service and is not interested in new customers. read more

When my husband and I made our reservation, we'd requested lower level, which we had. When we checked in, we explained to the gal that helped us that the others with us (6 rooms) would need lower level as well. She 'worked her magic' and made it happen (supposedly). In the meantime, there must have been a shift change because Jazzy was now at the front desk. I don't have anything nice to say about her (and the others that encountered her agreed). Somehow, most of the others ended up with rooms on the 2nd floor. One of the men is 81 years old & has a little difficulty walking! The elevator was at one end of the hotel and his room was the opposite end! Each time any of us asked Jazzy a question, her tone was awful, almost to the point of being rude. Having said all that, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The parking lot accommodated the 11 motorcycles nicely and we felt they were safe. read more
