It was at first hard to come out to school here and not know who has the best Chinese, and after a few misses and a suggestion from an acquaintance, I found the Great Wall. this has become my "go to" for chinese carry out. Portion sizes are huge, food is always piping hot, veggies are crisp and green and the egg rolls are great. One entree is usually enough for two people. Biggest drawback is they are really busy so a call in can become a long wait on hold. They do deliver, but I've always used the carry out. They also have a small dining area, but it's just too noisy being that close to a busy kitchen to dine in for me. read more

Great Wall USED TO BE great. But now with new owners...methinks not! The girl on the phone is RUDE. The food portions are smaller, the prices have gone up, and they just don't seem to care. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp and Chinese Vegetables as I have for the past 6 years. The shrimp IS NO LONGER JUMBO. And, this meal is what I would consider 'light' so the more protein the better. Not anymore! We ordered Great Wall last weekend and there was only three **3** shrimp in the meal. WHAT???? THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!! And the egg rolls taste like garbage. Really, not metaphorically. I ordered kung pao chicken and they used some old breaded chicken they have left over from another menu item and it was gross. I will not order from them again. I have eaten here before with no problems but this time I went in and a grouchy old lady waited on me and acted like she was being bothered by having to take my order! Gross! Wish I could give negative stars! We used to eat here all the time but the last few times we have been VERY disappointed. Tonight I ordered fried dumplings. They tasted like they were cooked several hours ago and reheated up again. They were drenched in oil and tasted old. As a Chinese I was surprised at how good the food was in this restaurant considering there isn't very many Chinese restaurants in this town. I'm not sure about the American Chinese food but the Chinese food is pretty good. I ordered curry noddles,beef chow fun, and Chinese broccoli. They all tasted amazing. compared to china town in Chicago or LA this place doesn't compare and is definitely extremely Americanized. Place is definitely hit or miss depending on what you order. I recommend the mongolian beef, hunan chicken, orange chicken, and the singapore angel hair. But for what it is, and being located in central Illinois it is solid chinese food and prices are extremely affordable. The delivery man was SO sweet and arrived right on time, despite us placing the order about a half hour before they closed. We ordered 2 large vegetable fried rices and it easily fed 6 people. Of course, vegetable fried rice is vegetable fried rice--nothing less than I expected. I hope to return to try some more interesting dishes soon! This is pretty nasty food, I ate here twice just to see if it was a fluke bad meal. If you like authentic Chinese food, skip at all costs. For the money, the rice should be higher grade, they use to much oil, way to much MSG, and I felt horrific afterwards. read more

When we called about it they refused to deliver, blamed it on us and then hung up on us. There are too many Chinese restaurants in this town to put up with that poor of service. My daughter loves Great Wall and I like the price but be very cautious. I kid you not if you go to the Mclean County Health Dept restaurant inspections you will see 9 times out of 11 when Great Wall has an unexpected inspection it fails horribly. I can't trust that they are responsible enough to care about the customer safety and provide proper sanitation and food temperatures. My health isn't worth the risk. This had previously been our go-to Chinese take out place, but our most recent experience was very mediocre. I got the sesame chicken and my husband got his general tso's chicken, which he usually orders. They were fine, but it just was not the same quality as before AND they didn't include fortune cookies. I am a customer for the past 4 years. Not even once ( I swear) they gave me a welcome smile (heard this from my friends too ). I ordered an item and they prepared double of it . When I went to pick up my order he realized that and first time gave me a smile and mentioned their mistake. Had it been an American restaurant they would have charged me for small and still offer me the one they prepared. I said no I wanted what I ordered and the smile turned to frown. Mean stingy people. I spent more than $1000 in the past 4 to 5 years. I still love the food but hate their attitude. I am sure these people pay peanuts to their cooks and cleaners and do not pay any taxes at all. It's delivered relatively quickly, but the food could be better. Most of the time it's ok, but the last time I ordered, the rice was burnt. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE, we ordered sweet and sour chicken, got a ton of chicken, about a third to a half cup of sweet and sour sauce, called to complain and was told to ask for more sauce next time, told them I should not have to ask for more sauce as common sense we need more sauce, they said we could go somewhere else, was told too bad go somewhere else they don't care, excellent customer service jerks!
