We came for their Twilight Polo season Grand Finale and what an amazing time we had! It's very family-friendly. We brought bottles of wine and lots of food (no grills or tents are allowed!) and chairs and a small table and sat arena-side and watched the amazing polo matches. Good times, definitely want to go back!

Great Meadow is more well known for horse races like the Virgina Gold Cup but it's a great place to check out Twilight polo events as well (no, not vampires). The prices are reasonable and tickets are by the car rather than per person. You can bring your own food and alcohol which makes for a fun party. The actual polo area was much tinier than a standard polo area (according to my dad -this was my first polo event). The tickets say you cannot bring in glass containers but almost everyone had wine bottles and beer bottles and no one bothered them. If you run out of wine, there is a local winery that sells bottles that aren't bad. Go check it out!

We will accomplish this mission by educating, empowering and enlightening the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition Vision: We envision a community in which everyone has access to sufficient, nutritious food. I became aware of this organization recently. So when I am out grocery shopping at Giant Food, I watch for good deals on things like canned goods - where I can buy a couple of cases of canned non-perishable items - such as vegetables, soups, fruits, pasta dishes, etc., to take over and donate to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. I think it's important as a community to help out those in our community that are struggling and less fortunate. This is one small way I can help out. I encourage anyone in the area to get into the habit of making a regular donation to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry is located in a small house right next to the Town of Haymarket Police Department, right off of Route 55 (Washington Street).

There are a lot of groups that beg for your consideration... and your money…read more As we worry about conservation of species and the well being of our planet, consider birds. Birds tell us a lot of things about the general health of our dear earth. While living in Hawaii, I learned that when other species of plants and/or animals were introduced to the Hawaiian islands, they really messed stuff up! Take for instance, pigs! Pigs were introduced to the islands and they created havoc. Pigs dig up the soil and are very destructive. As they dig, they destroy natural trees and plant life, indigenous to the islands. In doing that, trees that indigenous birds found their food from, became sparce, starving many birds out. From Google: Most historians credit Polynesians for introducing pigs to Kauai about 800 years ago. In addition, hurricanes (or tropical cyclones) have allowed pigs to escape ranches. There are many birds that once were, that sadly, no longer exist. So how does American Bird Conservancy fit in to this? Education! ABC sends out newsletters and works tirelessly, to keep us all aware of a birds life and sometimes loss. Thus, we discover how fragile things are and our responsibility to do our part. I love that each newsletter EDUCATES and it's only at the very end of that, that they say that your contribution can help make a difference. Besides all this? Go on the ABC website and search out birds that might be in YOUR neighborhood. You can learn about birds and even listen to their songs or chirps! Beautiful!

Not much by way of furniture, focusing more on smaller items to maximize use of floorspace, with a bountiful selection of homegoods, clothing, and household textiles. Some of my favorite finds here: cords for musical sound equipment, leather belts & purses, wood wall and metal hanging shelving and organizers, large framed art and frames, craft supplies, curtain rods, officewear, office goods, and children's clothing. You'd not find much here by way of jewelry, though the glass (checkout) counter and locked glass cases are worth a look for cool vintage and antique pieces. Seasonal and personalized items are kept to a minimum, and it seems there is a standard for only very good or higher condition items. I'd be surprised to find things here stained, in need of repair, or missing pieces. This may be a pro or con to you and I could see it being frustrating when donating things with more useful life ahead or when looking for a bargain to diy with. This isn't the place to "fill a bag" of t-shirts to play with, but a great option for back to school shopping, interview clothes, outerwear, and decor.
