There is plenty of shade and is great for bikers, runners, dog walkers and if you are looking for a simple trail to take your family to! There is also a really neat wall of painted rocks that the community has been contributing to which is awesome because we all get to add to one big piece of art! On a few of my walks here, I've seen deer, raccoons, and foxes so there is a pretty good chance you may spot some wildlife too.

They have two pools, a kids pool and one for laps which they are currently having a swim meet. They are also voting here as today is the last day of early voting for Virginia. It's got an indoor track, an extensive range of weight machines, a full size basketball court, actually two. An aerobic class is taking place on one of them. It appears there are approximately 20 to 30 people taking that class. But there's also a smaller aerobic room where they have a class taking place there as well. They have a cute little mobile library where you can check out books and videos. They have little tables and chairs where you can just sit and eat or read. They've got several vending machines including a coffee machine. If I live closer I would definitely come work out here!

Straight ahead, you have a weight lifting gym thats on par with commercial gyms and to the left, a small climbing wall. A good amount of staff are here and they are friendly. Several walked by saying hello with smiles. Again, coming from MoCo, I was like "Maybe moving to Northern Virginia is worth the cost". The bathrooms are a bit outdated, but not a deal breaker. It is still relatively clean like the rest of the facilities. The kitchen to the community room that my friends rented out had a lot of appliances (4 air fryers) and a large oven for reheating. I thought that was pretty cool. Also, I saw two woks there. This threw me offguard honestly.

Just hated the bugs. I love to read. If you do too, bring a good book. The camping ground is spacious. You're assigned a lot where you set up your tent(s). Seems like he had the entire gamut -- blow up couch, blow up bed, portable grill, speakers for music, bug repellent, food, and libations ;-) You will hear everything that is nature at night. I swear I heard a fox howling/barking. All-in-all, it was a cool experience...five days later, still itching from those bites. Oh! There's a water park too...arrive early to get in because they do have a capacity limit.

I also remember having a great time on the lake paddle boating and swimming in the big "L" shaped pool. Fast forward decades later, I have taken a liking to camping. I still consider myself a novice, and over the last 3yrs, I have accumulated some cool stuff. I have an annual camping trip with a large group next month, but I wanted to do a small intimate trip to one of my favorite childhood places. I must say, Lake Fairfax has one big change from when I was a child. It now has a HUGE waterpark that has giganic water slides as soon as you enter. I was a little disappointed to hear from the check-in Park attendant, who had the personality of a disinterested teenager, that the L shaped pool I referenced was no longer there. My picture of laying poolside or chillin in the pool were shattered, because with waterparks, comes tons and tons of young kids.. and honestly, I would just rather not..LOL! Once we made it to our assigned camping lot, I was super pleased at how close we were to the extremely clean rest rooms that were equipped with showers. The camping site was noticeably quiet, almost library quiet, so that suprised me a little. I didn't want to disrupt the flow, so I kept my speaker at a low level. :) All in all, I had a memorable experience at Lake Fairfax Park and I can definitely see myself coming back sometime next Spring/Summer!!

There is a trail that goes around the lake. It's has stunning view because the lake is surrounded by spectacular houses. Also, a portion of the Blue Trail passes through the park. The Pink and the Blue Trail run throughout the city of Reston. I was a little nervous about using the trail and crossing the streets. But there are pedestrian tunnels to cross under the busiest streets. Every time I come to this park, I always see plenty of people exercising. 5 stars.

This is a great family friendly environment and I usually take my dog for a walk here once a day. The view from the lake is absolutely stunning. There are at least two docks if you have a boat or a canoe you'd like to take out on the water. There's usually Little League baseball games going on for the kids and people playing tennis at all hours but not in a busy or overcrowded type of way. There's also bathrooms and water fountains for people to use which is convenient. The gazebo has two grills and is perfect for an outdoor get together or a family outing. I would highly recommend this location to anyone trying to enjoy Reston's outdoors.

I don't really know how to rate this place, I'll be honest. But for a nature preserve it has great…read moreparking, great paths, and was really easy to get to in spite of crappy signage. It has fields of very tall sunflowers (6-7 feet tall at the time I was there), corn fields, and swampy land. Come for sunflowers, bug photos, and nature in a relatively curated environment due to the obvious farming influence. This isn't really a Yelp-y tourist place for you to take instagram photos or play with your kids. There are no bathrooms, no water, minimal (but plentiful for what it is) parking, and there's no tour guides. So if you are a high maintenance person, this is not for you. It's a nature preserve and you don't really belong here. Except it's public land and they have made an effort to keep the place open to the public. I took my 2 year olds out here by myself with a wagon and it was great. I parked at the second to last parking area. As I was pulling up, a farmer was entering the path with a humongous, 10 foot tall tractor which looked like a tractor on stilts. There were only 2-3 cars in the parking lot and no one else around. The farmer took off before I could even see him in the cab of the tractor, which felt very isolating. Immediately upon opening the car door I heard the buzzing of bees and random other bugs running into me and the car, and expected the worst. There is standing water everywhere out here but they must spray for mosquitos now because the warnings I read about online were totally untrue--we didn't experience a single bug bite. However the other bugs were not affected. I would rate this as tops for looking at wood bumblebees and butterflies. There were very few birds around at the time I was there, and they appeared to avoid the area, flying near the fields but never over them. We walked down the path, which I posted photos of here on Yelp. The path is limestone rocks (not gravel) where the tractor wheels travel and dirt/grass. I pulled a wagon that is not meant for offroading and in spite of some bad conditions, it went fine. The path is maybe 1/4 mile long. Once at the flowers, I saw only three people. Two were together, doing instagram selfies. And there was one goth girl chasing butterflies for photography. They were all leaving, making us the only ones out here. It was kind of weird being that alone but we made the most of it by running around naked. Okay only my kids ran around naked but that's because I was changing diapers. The flowers were all facing the opposite direction of the path, so we had to walk to the other end of the field--something I was not excited to do in the heat and with a loaded wagon and two babies. But it wasn't bad at all! While walking the circumference of the field seemed like a bad idea at first, it made for great photos where we were really out in nature. I brought a stool along in my wagon but it was just in the way for kid photos. I would say maaaaybe bring one for adults but I found it to be more trouble than it was worth. Finding stable ground for a stool or ladder is challenging in these farm fields, and a little dangerous. Probably skip the stool if it's even a question. There are a few paths into the sunflowers that make for cool photos under a canopy of flowers, and most of the flowers were hanging down/bent downward, making them easy to phtoograph from the ground. When we returned to our car, we were the only ones left. So let me sum it up: - great facility with nice roads and parking areas - minimal pesky bugs when we went, no mosquitos - lots of butterflies and bees, but nothing to be alarmed about with the bees as they are all wood bees - 6-7 foot tall flowers - some flower vandalism, but generally the place looked pristine - easy to find on GPS navigation (google maps) - great cell phone service - can feel very isolated - probably leave the step stool at home

I went on Sunday with a friend to visit the sunflower fields. First off, it took what felt like…read moreages to locate the sunflowers. Yes there are coordinates on the website, but they wouldn't register when I tried copying & pasting them into Google maps. There is one gravel parking lot visible from the road. We started there, but then walked ahead and saw... nothing. No clear path to any sunflowers. We then drove a bit more and still not much. I then entered an address for "sunflower parking lot" which took us down the road, off of River road, past another gravel parking lot to another gravel parking lot. We parked there and decided to wander in to see what we could see. No signage, and still no sunflowers. We kept walking anyway until we finally spotted a field of yellow off in the distance on our left. We walked through a field to the flowers! It was a bit anticlimactic because our path landed us at the backside of the flowers, so we had to basically walk around or walk backwards to get a good view. We did a couple of laps while there. There were surprisingly few people at 4:30pm on a Sunday. We got some photos and then left. On our way out, we passed by many people asking if they were going the right way to the flowers. We also spoke to a group who came from the other lot. They said they were wandering for 3 hours trying to find the flowers and eventually managed to find the lot, and then had to cross a river with sticks for balance to get to the field. My jaw dropped. For a site that boasts beautiful flowers for visitors to enjoy, how the hell have they not marked it better? I also tried calling the wildlife center's office only to be met with a message that they no longer have in person office hours. Aka we were completely on our own trying to find our way. It also came to our attention that only field 3 had any flowers to see at this time. Yes the website says that the fields bloom at different times but nowhere did it provide a real time update. The fields are a mile or so apart, sending visitors on a wild goose chase. Absolutely ridiculous. I want to say I'd return next year, but only if they provide clearer directions on the website so we don't waste time driving all over the place and walking to a flower field that doesn't even exist at the moment.
