I so miss the rocket, and the merry go round. As one can imagine, we live in a litigious society, and best guess is that's why the latter is gone. This isn't to say it's a bad place, as quite the opposite, it's a truly safe park. Located right next to the Fairfax City police department, I have a lot of happy memories from here. Taking my kids to this park was fun, and so was sledding on the hills in winter. Some parts of the trail need to be repaired, but otherwise it's in great condition. Kids of all ages will like the skate park, and the basketball hoops. Also the fields are fun for kite or drone flying. This is a rather large park. You can get exercise on the tennis courts, or cook on the grills here. The covered patios with tables, make for a decent birthday celebration spot. Also there's a volleyball area too. If in the area stop on in, and hours are dusk til dawn. read more

Sweet and flat public park with volleyball, grills, playgrounds, swings, trash barrels, roofed tables, lawns, fences and parking. It was fun to unwind. The parking is narrow. All in all this tiny park has a decent offering albeit it's close to homes, libraries. Come with friends and pals, bring a football, frisbee or a glove or a volleyball (there's nets) and let that pent-up Covid anxiety loose! Fun for all ages. 5 read more

I was not very happy about the amount of families (both children and adults) who decided to opt-out of mask wearing here ... but luckily there are a few different play areas so you can socially distance and run away from the masses. We decided to stop by because my niece is a budding skateboarder and wanted to check out the skate park scene. She decided it was "too scary" for her to try but we did enjoy watching some of the teenagers doing fancy tricks for a bit. Our favorite play structure was a bee hive where kids could hide and climb in the little combs -- we've never seen anything like this before and our playgroup wanted to spend most of their time here. In addition they had a big kid playground and a little kid playground as well as picnic tables and grills to enjoy. There is a few organized sports fields, as well as a small trail. The park could use some updating but overall a fun spot to spend an afternoon. read more

We love this park. So many options for kids. Including a sandpit! The space is huge and had lots of play ideas - kids love just running around. My only complaint is that when some older kids/adults are playing basket ball- they sometimes have music on that's not appropriate for kids. read more

Fantastic park! Lots of choices for families, group activities, action (skate park), and casual strolls. The playground equipment is clean and well kept and the outdoor dining and BBQ looked fine as well. Be sure to bring your own water as the fountain near the playgrounds is a little suspicious in that it is currently shooting water 10ft into the air. Great spot for a fun afternoon! read more

This is a great park to come with if you have kids from say 3-6 yrs, and there is also a skate park if they are a bit older. They use a cedar mulch, which I believe helps keeps the bugs down. There are some picnic tables under some trees and a pavilion for group events. There is also a long walking path nearby with some more playground equipment. It is a very nice place to come and relax while the kids play. The wife and I are very happy to have found this park, and visit it frequently. read more

Big park with about 3 or 4 different playgrounds, a basketball court where kids can also skateboard, and a really nice porta potty that you control with your phone. Go! it's worth it. read more

I'm really impressed with Van Dyck Park. I live fairly close by, but it wasn't untill a random stranger that I met at a McDonalds mentioned that this super nice park was here. Based on his advice, I took my son to come play here. We had a blast! There are several playground structures available for kids to play. The variety and wide open space is what makes this park amazing. My son didn't know what to do with himself because he had some many choices. My son is currently very young, so his enjoyment of the park is the playground structures. However, as he gets older, he will enjoy the tennis courts, basketball courts, the skate park. Gosh, I bet there are other things there that we haven't even explored yet. For the party planning parents, there is a huge pavillion here as well that you can rent from Fairfax County. It doesn't seem expensive but I haven't looked at the prices. Definitely a great spot to rent for a party since it is next to so many activities. The park is clean and appears safe. Do not watch the 4th Of July Fireworks from here. Otherwise this is an amazing park and we've had a million memories- however, don't watch fireworks here on Independence Day. We only saw a bunch of sparkly trees and then had to hightail with a stroller to try to catch the end of the show. Again- it's an Awesome park with lots of amazing memories- just not great for fireworks. read more

I visited the gem of Fairfax parks and was pretty meh about it. It's located off a busy road and adjacent to a jail. Most of the playground equipment was broken or falling apart, or had those giant ruts around them which fill with water and mud. The trails and playing fields were pretty nice. There is a large field which, when I was there, had about 8 volleyball games going at one time and some people practicing archery next to them (which sounds as dangerous as it was, but that's how they had it setup). There is also a skatepark which--this is really strange--is made out of steel. It makes a thundering noise when kids roll their skateboards around it, and it's totally unforgiving for tricks. Somehow it seemed far worse than the usual concrete parks, but I don't skate so what do I know other than the awful din it made. There were a couple of play areas, but none were well shaded. I actually would not come back here as it has little to offer. If I did have to come back, I would focus on the trails as the best thing this park has to offer, and also the playing fields...if no one is doing archery at the same time. The park has at 2-3 covered areas and they were all filled to the max for birthday or other parties. The parking lot was overflowing with fancy Fairfax cars and I ended up parking illegally because there were no spots left. It's a large lot, though, and I would be surprised if it filled up during the weekdays. read more

This park is about a mile or so from my house and I've been taking my 2.5 year old here to burn some energy outdoors every now and then. There's a lot of open space where kids can run free, and plenty of equipments that are toddler and also big kids friendly. There are slides, swings, climbing wall, sandbox, volleyball court, basketball court, merry go around spinning thing, springy rocking horse (dog and panda), and more! Overall, we really enjoy coming here for the convenience and the variety of things to do. There's a also a big sheltered area where you can reserve for parties. read more

What an awesome park for kids! No fewer than 3 separate jungle gyms make this park a must for any one with kids or a kid at heart. Easy parking and friendly faces mean a wonderful weekend (although it can get crowded) or stop by during the week for a little more wiggle room and no wait times on the swings. If skateboarding is your thing, there is a nice skate park that shares a parking lot. Overall, a fun spot for tiny tikes and big kids alike. read more

This is a nice park near the Fair Oaks mall that you might want to hit up beforehand to burn some energy. They had a couple different playground options; teeter totter, wall climb, sand pit, one of those spinning riders (what are those things called???!), so not your average run-of-the-mill park. While it was very bustling and full of kids, all the parents and children seemed very well-behaved and friendly. Lots of slide options and playground choices, in addition to beautiful foliage and scenery in the heart of downtown Fairfax. Just another perk of living in the wonderful county of Fairfax. read more

A great assortment of activities for all ages. Theres picnic tables to playgrounds. Great place to job, walk or play sports. You can also hold events here or have lunch on one of the picnic sections. Park is clean and safe during the day. I highly recommend staying away near night as criminals and homeless people rome but nonetheless you're directly next to ffx city police station lol read more

Overall, this playground is quite large and has a lot of different options for a variety of kids. My only complaint is that every time I go, it. is. mobbed. I've gone at all different times and it feels like it's always crowded, which is no good for my introverted toddler. I can definitely see why so many people like it though--feels like an old school neighborhood friendly kind of place. read more

I met a friend at this park for a play date and it was perfect! They have multiple playgrounds for all ages. There is a good sized sandbox, lots of swings jungle gyms, a honey comb playground, a fish climbing apparatus and great hills for rolling down. This park brought back lots of memories of my childhood. Loved it! read more

Love this park. Only thing missing is some type of water. There is no lake or pond or swimming pool. I'd like to see maybe a splash pad/fountain. Something that kids can play in. That's the only thing missing. read more
