But it was closed last time I went through Marshall as construction was not yet completed. It's located just off of Route 55 just east of beautiful, downtown Marshall, VA. It's open now, I visited yesterday as my neighbors were holding a birthday party for their 3 year old daughter at the park. They reserved a covered pavilion which had plenty of tables, a grill, and was close to lots of playground equipment for the mass of writhing kids attending the party and now running amok through the park. The park offers a lot of park amenities - from the park web site: "Open year-round, the park boasts 8 athletic fields including baseball, softball, soccer and football. The park also features two concession stands, 8 picnic shelters, an amphitheater, three playgrounds, a two mile paved multi-use trail, 3 indoor restrooms, fishing lake, meeting room and plenty of beautifully landscaped open space. Recreational programs are available for your enjoyment." I plan to come back to walk and hike, fish the lake, and maybe even grill out some time!

This park was one I had not yet been too and today I was on my own, so, NFCP it was! Pulled into the office area on the left at the enterance and read the map. 1.75 mile trail. Perfect. I wan't the only one out jogging in the rain either. - I was impressed that this park has 4 different locations with playground equipment. One with swings. 3 right next to restrooms that are actual builings. Not porta potties. I think I counted 2 consession stands next to 2 of the 4 playgrounds. Many shelters and standup grils to use. Some of these grills look huge! Very impressive; especially in the shelters by the lake. picnic tables outside the shelter areas as well. Also on site is an ampitheatre. I'm pretty sure this place gets crowded in the spring and summer just like the Warf in Warrenton. Today...it was not. - While jogging I could hear the trains whistling in the near distance. Ducks/geese wadling and quacking nearby. Even with the fog and being December you could see the beautiful ( I think ), Hawthorne trees (?) with their bright red berries. I had to google the tree. My boyfriend and I decided to make a fall date out of visiting Temple Hall Farm after seeing the…read morebeautiful pumpkin and sunflower photos online. It is a little under an hour from DC, and tickets cost 15 dollars per person. That price includes a pumpkin and as many flowers as you want to take home, which sounded like a great setup for a festive afternoon. When you arrive, they take you on a wagon ride out to the fields. Once you get off, they give you a little cart along with a mini saw and a pruner so you can cut your pumpkin right off the vine. They also point you toward areas marked with orange flags, where pumpkins are supposedly still growing. That part was fun in theory and we were hopeful at first. Unfortunately, once we started searching, the experience went downhill. The pumpkins in the flagged areas were either completely rotting, cracked open, or shriveled. We checked everywhere they recommended and still struggled to find anything worth taking home. It took more than 15 minutes just to find a single pumpkin that was not in a sad state. Honestly, if you do choose to come here, do not even bother walking into the actual fields. There are pumpkins sitting near the entrance that are in far better condition. Grab one of those and save yourself the disappointment. The sunflower situation was even more surprising. Every sunflower was dried out and brown. After seeing so many bright, Instagram-worthy photos online, it was a huge letdown. We were really looking forward to cutting some fresh flowers to bring home, but there were none to be found. Because it is marketed as a family friendly fall destination, we expected more activities too. There was only a slide and a bouncy pad for kids, and not much else. The whole area felt neglected and honestly a bit forgotten. I can only imagine how many parents end up taking home pumpkins that will not last through the week, just so their kids can feel like they found one. There were a few vendors selling snacks. We tried the apple cider, which had good flavor, but it had a fizzy hint that made it seem like it was already starting to ferment. We left feeling disappointed and wishing we had gone somewhere else. The farm has so much potential based on the photos online, but the reality did not match at all. If you are searching for a fun pumpkin picking date or a festive fall atmosphere, I would not recommend Temple Hall Farm. There are definitely better options out there for the same drive and price.

So many things to do, the trampolines are a huge hit with my kids, the sand it amazing, so soft! Love the big slide and playground and the animals are always hanging near the fences (unlike other farms) so you always get a good sighting of them. I took off 1 star for the teenagers working there that just sat around talking and flirting with each other or on their phones. They looked super bored and couldn't be bothered to watch the kids for safety. When I kid was stuck on the sky obstacles course and was shouting for help but there was no workers in site, I went to find one and he just said, there's 2 harnesses so if 1 is stuck, there's the other one and walked away. Didn't even go try to see what the issue was.

This is a great family friendly environment and I usually take my dog for a walk here once a day. The view from the lake is absolutely stunning. There are at least two docks if you have a boat or a canoe you'd like to take out on the water. There's usually Little League baseball games going on for the kids and people playing tennis at all hours but not in a busy or overcrowded type of way. There's also bathrooms and water fountains for people to use which is convenient. The gazebo has two grills and is perfect for an outdoor get together or a family outing. I would highly recommend this location to anyone trying to enjoy Reston's outdoors.

We have held our company picnic at the Great Falls Grange for the last two years. Working with…read moreJulie and the Foundation has been so refreshing. This year, our picnic was planned for the hottest day of the summer so far. We have a big set up of games and inflatables with Ed Boak and Fun Services and a full menu with Bob Egan and High Point Catering. The building is air conditioned which makes it a great place to set up the food, cold drinks and some eating tables. The outside is so beautifully maintained with lots of shade. The Great Falls Foundation has done a wonderful job of caring for this beautiful and historic property. We are already planning to return next year! Thank you Julie and the Great Falls Foundation!

The grange is a great local playground. The best in great falls (and for my money better than…read morethose in Vienna too). It's got one huge play set with fun tunnels and slides. A smaller 2-5 play set, a nice feature and a very rarely seen Whirl A Round that my kids love. While the playgrounds are more or less standard the shade, the size and the whirl a round put this playground up a couple notches for your average elementary school playground. There is also a small older building that hosts farmers markets in the winter and a few pavilions that are nice for get togethers. Overall a great local spot.
