This review is for the service department: David and I brought our 2002 Honda CRV in for its 15 year old recall on the airbag firing mechanism (I think) While this was possibly the most adult thing I have ever done (Joe in service said that his girlfriend has an 7 year outstanding recall, so I'm not the only one!) the real adults were the service department employees who got us in ASAP and completed the repair within 30 minutes of our arrival. We barely had time to eat the pizza we brought along before Joe was at the table telling us that our car was ready and waiting. In that 30 minutes however, I was dismayed by the behavior of two showroom employees. One, a mature woman with red hair, actually stopped and snorted at David and made a rude comment and the other, a tall youngish male with slightly long hair, spoke dismissively about a woman who apparently had been left waiting in the front because she had asked to see someone right away. :/ But Joe and the service department were amazing ! They told me to "add the warranty later" but the car only lasted one month!! In addition, a family member purchased a car from them after me, his car hadn't had an oil change in months!! About a year and a half ago, I bought a vehicle from Great Lakes Honda in Akron OH. It was in great condition, and I got it for a good price, and had no issues. We needed another car, and I decided to try them again. I found a car I was interested in, but the web site said it was still being serviced. That was on a Wednesday. The following morning I got an email asking if I'd like to make an appointment to test drive it that day or the next. I explained that I was two hours away, and would try to make it there on Saturday. I made an appointment, and contacted them again on Saturday morning saying I would be a little later. She replied saying that was no problem. I got down there and told the receptionist I had an appointment with that person, and was told that the woman I was emailing was just a scheduler. They assigned me to a salesperson, who took an unusually long time to bring the car out. The first thing he did was open the trunk, and it was littered with coloring books, a women's purse, and other things. We got in the car, and my wife noticed a foot-long crack in the windshield. I started the car, and saw that the display screen was cracked on both edges, with the image only showing in the middle of the display. A warning light was on as well. I started moving through the lot slowly, and heard a metallic scraping from the right front wheel, and every imperfection in the parking lot caused loud thunking noises from the left rear suspension. As I accelerated on the street, there was a loud buzzing like the left rear tire was rubbing against the fender. I turned around after a half a block and returned to the dealership. The salesman asked if there was another car I might be interested in. There was another car, though with more miles than I wanted, that I might consider. Their website had said that was in detailing. After another long wait, the salesman returned to say the car wasn't even on the lot but was being serviced at another location. So my wife and I spent an hour at the dealership, four hours driving, and a tank of gas, for nothing. And the salesman let slip that the "woman" who invited me down and arranged the appointment was an A.I. bot. Why bother being inconvenienced by having an employee spend a minute or two emailing or texting a customer what the real situation is, when you can have an A.I. bot create an alternate reality and put five hours of inconvenience on the customer. Who cares about losing the customer and getting bad reviews, I guess. And to top it off, a sales manager texted me the following day to see how things went. He apologized, and asked what other car I was looking at. I then received a phone call from another salesperson, and a follow up text saying "I'm sorry to hear about your experience before. Hopefully I can make it better in the future... Once it's out of service, I'll let you know!" I continued to check the status of the car on their web site, but it still said it was in service. I finally put my contact info into the web site again, and then was told that it had been sold. I never heard back from the salesperson that it was out of service. Maybe the sales manager and other salesperson were A.I. bots, too. read more

Didn't even try to sell the car nor discuss anything positive about the vehicle. Gave us a terrible "deal", felt very disrespected and as though we were a bother by just walking in and wanting to buy a car in the first place. I love this place. I shop online when I buy cars. The dealership Great Lakes always has the best price online of any other dealerships first without any bartering. The service here is absolutely amazing. I used to hate to have to bring my car anywhere for oil change other than those 10 minute lube places but now I wouldn't go anywhere else other than great lakes Honda. Shout out to Justin, Rob, and Shana in-service, who are absolutely the best. They always have a great attitude, a smile on their face, and do whatever they can to make your day better. They let me walk over the lot looking at cars without help or checking to see if I wasn't a security risk, although I did see one salesperson and to his credit he was with another person and did say hi.. he never ask if I need someone to help or point me in the direction to get help.. so much for trying to give back to business in your neighborhood. read more

The only reason Great Lakes Honda is getting A star is because at least one is required. They don't even deserve that. Went in to look at a truck on Sunday. The next day made an agreement to purchase the truck. signed a sales agreement, gave the money down, with the agreement to pick up the truck on Thursday after work, the next day the salesperson was working. The salesperson called and texted me Thursday morning telling me another salesperson sold the truck while she was off. This sales person deserves the commission out of the selling sales managers pocket. Wow, what an experience with this dealership. 5 stars is not enough. From the time my sales person Lisa Minor started texting me information about the 2024 Honda odyssey sport till the time I went to the dealership the same day and got it. Long story short I arrived at Great Lakes at approximately 3:20 and left the same day happy as a calm. Lisa, was great showed me the Odyssey I was interested in then showed me a few more! The process was super easy with Lisa, no bullshit straight to the point and actually fun. Then I had an experience with Jake who was Lisa's sales leader. What a guy! Came over talked to me and thanked me for my service. They all did and thank me multiple times. Jake showed and explained me the numbers. I then had Marty as the finance guy. What a cool dude to. When we took our car in for some issues , all we got was a squirt of WD-40 , and some lame excuse about our bass being too high which made a loud clicking sound. I had not had my Honda long when I found out that I needed a software update and a transmission oil change to prevent vibration when shifting gears. I went to this dealership because it was close, probably never again. First of all, software update, which took about 5 minutes, cost $149. A transmission oil change, $149. If I want a good oil change, the cost is $450! What?? I know they need to make money, but do they want anyone to come back? $32 for shop supplies? Now we are getting silly. I went to look at a reasonably priced used 2015 Honda Civic for $13,773 with 86k miles, VIN: 19XFB2E53FE060889. The car ran great and clean otherwise EXCEPT upon walkaround I opened the back passenger door to find a fist sized corrosion hole between the wheel well and the door jam that they covered with strips of black electrical tape to make it go unnoticed. not surface rust, a hole with tape over it. After talking with salesperson he said they remained firm on the price despite this being a huge deal breaker for any consumer. there is no doubt that in northeast Ohio with wind, rain and snow, this hole would expand outwards to the face of the car and wheel well. The price tag on the car was for a 2015 used vehicle in GOOD condition ( relatively clean and minor wear and tear) any blue or black book appraisal source would rate this vehicle as fair considering the damage and repair cost if it is repairable. they have since lowered the cost by $200 dollars but this car would run a significant risk of losing 3k of private party resale value right off the lot and potentially more within 3-5 years. They would be lucky to see $11,300 for the vehicle to a naïve or optimistic buyer. Kelly BB and Edmunds appraises the car at max $10,300 even in this market. Do not buy this vehicle at the sticker price. Tread lightly at this seller. read more

Test drove a Certified Honda Preowned Insight. When it turned on a warning of "Supplemental Restraint System Problem. See your dealer" was lit in the console and the salesperson, Beth Locke saw the warning with me. Beth said she would alert the service department. Beth texted me later that when she checked the car later the same warning did not come up. I replied that I was interested in the vehicle and if I could come the next morning with a cashier's check for the vast majority of the cost of the car and the rest with a personal check and she replied "yes" and scheduled a 10am appointment for the following morning (a Saturday). I got the certified check and was driving to the dealership Saturday morning to purchase the car and got a call from Beth that when she went to bring to car to the front that the warning light was on again and that she alerted the service department. I said that until that was dealt with I was not going to pick up the car (OBVIOUSLY), but was still very interested if the issue was easily dealt with. She replied that "she had the keys" so no on was selling it. I related that the next time that I could come in was likely the following Monday evening and asked her to keep me appraised of what was going on with the servicing of it. I got an email tonight, Sunday, that "Unfortunately, someone placed a deposit on the vehicle with another salesperson while the vehicle is in service. I apologize, the Insight is no longer available." Beth never asked me to or told me I had the opportunity to leave a deposit on the vehicle and my understanding by her saying "I have the keys" was assurance that it would not be sold as we were awaiting the outcome of the servicing for the restraint system alert. This process leaves me pretty disgusted with Beth and this dealership. read more

I drove an hour away just to come to this dealership and it was totally worth it. The atmosphere was nice and the waiting area was clean and cozy! From the internet sales team to the team at the store, everyone was so professional and great. Cristina, in the internet sales department, and Jeff Cox, the in store salesman, were so pleasant to work with! Both of them did their best to help my boyfriend and I out and we both left with the Civic Sport that day. Mr. Cox was very friendly. I got sick on the drive up and he accommodated to my needs and was so understanding about it. The communication was excellent! Any time I reached out, there was always a response and I didn't have to wait days to get it!! The previous dealerships I had visited reached out to me to see if I had found a car yet and I told them yes and that I was going to Great Lakes. I told them about the deal they were giving me (compared to the other dealerships trying to rip me off) and let me just say this, THEY WERE AT A LOSS OF WORDS. They couldn't believe how much Great Lakes helped me. They actually tried to tell me that Great Lakes was going to low blow me when I got there to try to get me not to go. Can you believe that! My current lease on my 2015 Civic was coming to end this month, so I decided to see if I could negotiate a new lease to get myself into last Saturday.   Upon arrival at around noonish, I walked in and to my surprise no one really noticed or came up to me. Maybe I haven't been to a dealership in a while.. but I figured that was a common practice to engage anyone walking through the front door.   After about 15 minutes I went up to the front desk to the receptionist and told her I was looking to speak with someone regarding a new lease. That's when Jason Hahn came up to me to introduce himself. He brought me back to a sales desk that seems to be shared by many. He broke out my options, of which I wasn't very excited about considering the first lease deal I had gotten. To try to convince me, he offered a test drive of the Civic EX model.   I accepted and we took a test drive out in the bad weather we had that day. During the 5 minute trip, I wasn't told much about the car other than some highlights that I found out for myself, such as the side mirror cameras.   Once we got back he laid out the pricing again for the EX, which would have doubled my prior payments on my 2015 Civic lease. I asked to just see the LX pricing, which wasn't much better, still significant but not yet double. After some negotiation and my upset that I wasn't being treated fairly for being a returning leasee, I was able to get an okay deal.   Once everything was signed with Jason, which took quite a while, I was introduced with business manager in the office behind. He was excellent and quick to get me out of there after signing whatever he needed me to. After that was done, I packed all the stuff out of my old Civic and set it near Jason's desk area. Jason assured me that they are cleaning the vehicle and would be out soon for me. In between the hour it took for them to bring it around and when he told me that, I was pushed aside by Jason to engage with his new customer. I guess I'm done with his attention at this point. Eventually Jason decided to refocus his attention to me to finally address the matter of me waiting for almost an hour standing around in the dealership. He personally brought the car up front and showed me how to connect my phone then set me off on my way.   In my conversation with Jason, I stated I left my second key set at home and he told me to just swing by tomorrow, Sunday, as they'd be open. Upon arrival, locked doors and no staff present within the dealership. I had to drive through another day of awful weather just to be lied to by both the business hours and the salesman. Even another car came up and was confused why the dealership was closed. Overall, I'm not very happy with the process I went through. I spent about 3 hours of my day there, which I don't know if is normal just to get a new lease. As for the dealership itself, the service staff has always been fantastic as well as the manager staff. I was in town for a concert at Blossom and drove over something on my way out of the park. It sounded awful. I was 5 hours away from home and planning to travel the next day to another concert, another 5 hours away. I was able to make an appointment with the service station here using their website at 1:00AM and was there 8 hours later. Sean took care of me and did not make me feel like an idiot for driving over something that my 2010 Accord could not handle. He took a look at the undercarriage and told me everything was in tact, just a bit scuffed up. My key had also come apart and he found the tiny screw needed and out it back together. All of this and he did not charge me anything, even though I asked if I could please give him some money. I can't express how grateful I am to Sean and this business. He easily could have taken advantage of my being from out of town and in a jam, and instead he was as helpful and kind as any service person I have encountered. I recently went to Great Lakes Honda to look at a vehicle. First off let me tell you what great customer service this dealership provides. The place was very busy and I did not have an appointment. But Nathan B took very good care of me. He was dashing between me and his scheduled appointment, getting me a car to test drive and telling me about the vehicle. Another sales associate approached me and offer help if Nathan was too busy. The front desk receptionist was very professional and attentive as well. Very disappointed with the integrity of this dealership and its sevice department. Disappointed that they put money making above customer satisfaction. If they could for a moment put themselves in the customer's shoes just maybe they would not use shady tactics BIG BUYER BEWARE. I purchased a certified pre owned used car with around 17,300 miles. This my fourth Honda. I always buy new, however this is my first certified Honda, and the first and the last purchase from GREAT LAKES HONDA. The sales person Said Pronounced (Sy -eed ) Assured me the vehicle had under gones a thoroughly inspected and passed the certification inspection process . The salesman said additional 12 month warrenty came with the certification. When i test drove the vehicle the saleman brought the car around already started and warmed up. I did not think anything sinister was occuring. The same thing when I picked the car up after purchase. The car was already running while he explained the different features. This was on thursday jan 26, 2023. It was the weekend so the car set for a couple of days. When the car was started that Monday morning it was making a loud noise when brakes were applied at start up. I called salesperson twice. No one answer call. I ask the receptionist answering calls was sales person in, she said yes, maybe he is with a client. Calls were never returned . Receptionist told me to leave a voice mail. I informed her voice mail option was not available. I proceeded to call service department. The service department told me the loud noise with the braking system was normal for Honda Accords. I told her this was my third Accord and never had this problem with any of them. I asked that the car be checked . She gave me an appointment for a few days later. The service department told me the same thing that this loud noise was normal and stated it would be an ongoing issue, the service person said they had no resolution for the problem that it would be an on going issue that is common with Accords. Mind you they did not Inform me of any ongoing vehicle defects, even though it is obvious they knew of these defects prior to selling the vehicle I purchased just a few days earlier. I believe they knew about the loud noise and this is why the car was always started an running . The loud noise occurs at start up. After its been setting. . Long story shortened their explanation did not sound credible so I took the car I had purchased less than a week to a certified auto repair shop for an analysis. The technician informed me the noise was coming from an issue that was causing the overheating of the brakes drums. The overheating was causing the brake drums to warp. Problem remains unresolved . 1 star is honestly being rather generous. I drove an hour to the dealership to look at 3 cars, all 3 cars had major issues. The first car had a dead battery and smelled like 27 ashtrays, but I still wanted to test drive. The second car I looked at was "in service" it was over priced by at least $2000 as it was about to fall apart. The third car didn't start either. The saleswoman was terrified to put the jumper cables on so she went to "get a man" to do it. While she was gone finding a man, I hooked the cables up only to find that the problem was more than a dead battery (starter, or super seriously dead battery). This car also had a flat tire, which she blamed on teenage vandals.) After the second DOA car I should have left, but I stayed to test the first car. I didn't make it a mile before the car started smoking from under the hood. If the car smoking hadn't happened I probably wouldn't have left a negative review, but I wasted 1.5 hours waiting around as well as the 2 hour commute. My family has bought new vehicles here before, but absolutely NEVER again! I feel like this was very sloppy. Worse car dealership I been too. My salesman Darius Evan's. Mr Honda that's what his card says. Was the worse salemans I ever had. I would know because I bought a a new use car every 6 months. He talk friendly when u test drive the car. But when u want to buy the car and try to figure out problem the the car. All he do is email you when u ask him to text or call. He never call me once. And when he email me it takes couple hours or days. Even over week or not even reply back. He dont know anything. He tells you one thing but its not right. I end up buying the car. I had a wonderful buying experience with the help of Cristina from internet sales, Gavin one of the managers, and Joe P the sales man. I had a 2015 Crv with a lot of miles from extremely far to work everyday and it was getting close to needing to have work done plus I had negative equity. With the help from Gavin and Joe I was able to get put into a brand new 2017 CRV with 25 miles and my payment stayed almost the same. I was able to test drive the car and then I had to leave for an appointment. When I came back all the paperwork was done all I had to do was sign. There was no haggling or going back and forth. After I had done a test drive and was pretty committed to the car, he told me the listed price in the car window was not the real price: they have to sell their cars for a much higher price than what they advertise.
