We had such a wonderful experience at The Great Indian Kitchen! We had family visiting from out of town, and it was the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal together. The garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and basmati were absolutely delicious--authentic Indian food with wonderful flavors. I am going to start this with Indian food is not my favorite and rarely something I seek out. But sometimes things have a way of seeking you out. I happened by the great Indian kitchen and in the middle of a hangry experience. Gave it a shot on the weekend for lunch and will come back again and again. They have a $21 lunch buffet with so many choices. chicken, lamb vegan vegetable you name it they have something for you. I wasn't prepared to enjoy it as much as I did. If I was ready I would have taken more photos. The staff was very helpful and there were plenty of staff to help. They played Bollywood shows on tv and music videos. The buffet domes with soda and tea so drinks can be included or you can order something else. The chicken dishes and the rice were so good. When you dine here you are in a family owned and operated restaurant with recipes handed down from grandma. No dyes in the food and food are instead full of flavor made fresh daily. Service was five star and the overall feel makes you think you are home I was surprised they make there deserts on premise even the ice cream . Masala Dosa: Came with a myriad of creamy, tangy, and spicy sauces! This was a simple dish with peppered cooked potatoes encased in a crispy dough wrapping. After a long day at Six Flags Magic Mountain, we wanted a full sit down meal and Great Indian Kitchen had some amazing reviews. We were greeted with complimentary crackers and some kind of chutney. It was really good and we enjoyed it! I have never received any kind of complimentary item at an Indian restaurant to welcome us, so this started off a great note. And the tasty chutney really set the tone as well. * Gol Gappe (8 pieces) $9.95 - We've had variations of this dish but what really stood out was their sour and spicy mint flavored water. That is beyond delicious! I literally drank it all up and have been trying desperately to find recipes on how to make it. It was SO good. * Masala Dosa $15.95 - This was pretty good and it's served with a spiced potato curry. We ended up ordering a second one. * Lamb Curry $19.95 - This was good stuff on basmati rice or with naan. * Bhindi Ki Sabzi $17.95 - It was our first time having this classic Punjabi dish and it was good as well. * Garlic Naan $4.95 * Basmati $6.95 Food overall was really enjoyable and I think often of that flavored water that accompanied the gol gappe. We drove out from Burbank on a perfect, light traffic Memorial Day evening, based on the great reviews, and they didn't disappoint! It's a cute little place with Bollywood clips on one tv and Cricket on another. Service was good and great conversation with the charming Manu. Wow. It's difficult to come by good Indian food, but this place is really good. Went around 3 pm, after buffet style was over. Restaurant had one other person inside, service was quick and attentive. Interior was decent and had some hanging plants around the sides. Let's get to the food. Started off with some little fried like chips with a garlic paste sauce that was on the house, really tasty! Vegetable Samosa - 10/10 DELICIOUS! Spiced absolutely perfectly! Genuinely really good, and the sauce was extremely tasty (really loved the red one specifically, I think it's tamarind?). Interesting shape too. I wish you guys would make chicken samosas too, could take it to a 10000/10! Lamb Saag - 8/10 Really good! The lamb was quite good, not chewy (which is hard to come by). Could have been a little more tender, and the sauce itself could have been a bit creamier, but very solid. Garlic naan - 9/10 It's good garlic naan, enough said! I went to the lunch buffet here last summer because I kept seeing the signage and wanted to try it out. The building was pretty spacious. Seats weren't densely packed so it feels like there is a lot of room. I came on and got seated immediately. The buffet had a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. I went for the vegetable biryani, saag paneer, chicken pakora, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, and vegetable korma. Garlic naan was not a part of the buffet spread but was delivered separately by the waiter. It had a good garlic flavor and was warm but not too buttery. I liked the vegetable biryani and the vegetable korma. The korma was tender and very flavorful. The saag paneer tasted a bit off to me and my first plate of chicken masala was a bit dry. After they refilled the chicken masala, I got another serving and it was much better and more tender. They also had a small desert selection but it was nothing to write home about. I also saw a dead cockroach outside the bathroom door but I think it just crawled in from outside to escape the heat and died. Overall I think what makes this place attractive is the value. The buffet is pretty affordable and allows you to fill yourself up with a variety of food. read more

Wonderful family-run restaurant in Valencia, CA! The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. My group of 3 split 3 curries (lamb vindaloo, fish curry, and paneer curry). I've never had fish curry before and it was fantastic. The lamb was extremely tender and melts in your mouth. The paneer curry was my favorite, the curry itself had so much flavor. Medium spice was enough for a gradual build without being overpowering. I had masala chai as well, which was perfect. They offer the lunch buffet 11-3 everyday. When we went on Tuesday around noon, it wasn't that crowded with only 2-3 other tables occupied. On weekdays, the buffet costs $17.95 per person and comes with your choice of chai or soft drink. On weekends (Fri to Sun), it costs $19.95 per person, and in addition to the chai or soft drink, you can opt for a glass of champagne as well. They had a good selection of veg and non-veg dishes along with an assortment of chutneys and raita. On the day I went, they had the following mains, to give you an idea of their selection: biryani - vegetarian and chicken chicken tikka masala chicken curry fish vindaloo tandoori chicken dal makhani rajma (kidney bean) shahi paneer mixed veg curry pakora - veg and chicken My favorites were the chicken tikka masala, the chicken curry, the rajma / kidney bean curry, and the mixed veg curry. The tandoori chicken was good as well. As for the others, the fish vindaloo was too spicy for me, the dal makhani bland, and the gravy for the shahi paneer was too sweet. We felt like family-- and every single item we ordered on the menu was made with the utmost care, bursting with flavor. We ordered so many things to family-style-- and I can confidently say you can't go wrong with any of it here. The ambiance is a beautifully, warm lit atmosphere with bursts of color (pictured)-- I love how much thoughtfulness is placed in the space. Absolutely blown away by this place. We ordered the shrimp chaat, samosa, rack of lamb, and goat curry -- and every single dish felt so special. Usually with Indian food, you kind of have an idea of what flavors to expect before the food even comes out. But this restaurant surprised me in the best way possible. The flavors were incredibly unique, bold, and layered in a way that felt much more authentic and exciting than the typical Indian restaurants around here. It honestly felt like the kind of food you'd discover at a vibrant street market in India. I dropped by Great Indian Kitchen after a very long day, and in desperate need of calories. I was met with a brilliant and patient waitstaff who were attentive in every way, and in a setting that was comfortable and inviting. The food was extraordinary--the dal was delicious, the saag was incredible, and the tikka paneer appetizer was sumptuous (the mixed onions, tomatoes, and lime that accompanied it, along with a mint chutney, was the best!). The homemade chips with pumpkin chutney were also a revelation. If you're in the area, please do yourself a favor and stop in. When I lived in NYC, I thought we had the best, most authentic Indian restaurants anywhere outside of India. Then, I had dinner at an Indian friend's apartment and realized I was wrong. And then, I spent a summer in India and realized I was really, really, really wrong! So, when I tell you that the best, most authentic Indian restaurant in greater Los Angeles is in Valencia, you can take it to the bank. I knew Great Indian Kitchen had been drawing diners to their pickup spot for the past year and getting 5-star reviews, lots of them. But, until they moved into their airy, colorful space offering sit down as well as take out, I hadn't tried them. This weekend changed everything. This place is SPECTACULAR! The food is truly the best Indian food on the West Coast and maybe the whole USA. I cannot imagine it being any better. Better how? Well, variety, authenticity, flavor, freshness, color, eye-appeal, seasoning, temperature, presentation, portions, I could go on. The menu has pages and pages. As a vegetarian/vegan, I would have to come back at least a dozen times to try everything that I saw on it for me. If you are a carnivore, it will be just as bountiful for you. This is mostly Northern Indian cuisine. The family owners are from the Punjab region and all of them work here. Grandma is the recipe maker and there are cooks as well as children and grandchildren working to prepare and serve the food. Everything comes out piping hot on hammered copper serving pieces that keep each dish at its proper temperature throughout your meal. Each dish we tried was completely unique. Everything had its bespoke combination of herbs and spices. You can request (and they ask you) mild, medium, and hot. I had the medium and it was just right, not bland, not painful. Our carer was the beautiful Manu. She made the meal a trip to India by patiently answering all our questions, giving thoughtful, informed and brilliant suggestions, sharing little anecdotes, even anticipating things that we might like that were not obvious on the menu. It would not have been the delightful, culturally rich and gourmand experience that it was without Manu's sensitive and cheerful explanations. She clearly loves working there for her parents and grandmother and loves India. At the end of our meal, carrying giant bags out with us (we ordered 10 dishes, including desserts) I was dying to book a trip back to India, one of the most vibrant, friendly, beautiful, colorful, fragrant places on earth. Our meal, a fraction of the vegetarian/vegan choices, consisted of: *Aloo Tiki *Masala Dosa *Aloo Gobi *Vegetable Biryani *Vegetable Pakoras *Mixed Vegetables *Garlic Cheese Naan *Dal *Raitas and chutneys and sauces, a rainbow array of them *Carrot Halwa *Gulab Jamon *Chai Latte (that they refilled at no extra charge) The entire fare cost about $100. And, see my photos, the portions were more than generous, hence the takeout boxes. Clean, cheerful, with Bollywood music and films, colorful, with many little touches that I recognized from India, you will not find another Indian restaurant for 100 miles in each direction, like Great Indian Kitchen. Plenty of roomy parking and right next to our favorite Lebanese restaurant (see my earlier reviews). I felt like I could just move in and never leave, LOL! read more

I was hesitant to try a new Indian restaurant. It's hard to live up to an Indian restaurant I've been eating at for 10 years in Westlake Village, but surprisingly Great Indian Kitchen does!
