Extract clone kits of local options found here.
Brooke K.

I am sad to admit, my husband and I don't have beards. I tried to grow one once but I wasn't very successful. We do however, like to brew at home and Great Fermentations welcomes us openly without beards. In fact, their service is one of the many reasons we enjoy visiting their shop. Here are a few more: Classes: We have been brewing off and on for about 3 years (newbies). We started with a Mr. Beer Kit and quickly discovered GF offered beginning courses on home brewing. If you want to take your home brewing to the next level these classes are super helpful. The class size is small, you are given a wealth of information, you sample beer, all while watching as a batch of beer is made. Think....Chemistry class with edible ingredients. Soon after, we felt ready to invest in a 5 gallon brew system and broke up with Mr. Beer. They also offer All-Grain brewing which is the next step, kegging classes, wine making, and cheese making classes. Extract Kits: Each kit has its own unique set of ingredients and includes a set of easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Here you can even find beer clone kits of some of your favorite beers. I personally feel these kits have been the key to making our home brew adventures a success. It's hard to miss up and each one we have made has turned out delicious. I would highly recommend these to any beginner. Inventory: Nice selection of supplies including ingredients for making beer, cheese, and wine. You can even purchase hop rhizomes so you can grow your own hops at home. I am hopeful one of these days I will be able to walk in, with my own recipe, looking all bad ass, and have the staff of GF help fill it for me. Every time I am in and see this happening I die with envy. Beer While You Shop/Next to a Brewery: No explanation here, that's just straight up great marketing.

The spot!

If you're planning to get into winemaking, brewing beer or even making cheese, this is the place for you! The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and all around great people. They go the extra mile! I emailed a question, then called the next day. They both answered me on the phone and still followed up by email. Stop in, shop, sip on the latest beer or cider on tap. Take a class, drop in on their networking days and make sure you get on their email list. The specials, updates, event and class schedules will be sent to you! Enjoy and Happy fermenting!

I did not visit with my kids, but I know my kids would have loved this toy store. They love any kind of store where they can touch and play with the merchandise, and Toys Forever is such a place. It's very hands-on. There are toys all around that people can pick up and experience, which is very cool. Even though my children were not with me, I visited Toys Forever because I wanted to get my kids something from Muncie as a souvenir. You see, I was just passing through this fine city. My kids love things that are superlative: "The world's tallest X" or "The worl'd fastest Y." So when I saw The World's Biggest Candy Necklace near the checkout counter, I grabbed two. Done and done! The candy necklaces were a hit, as I thought they would be, and they only cost a few dollars each. There are fun things for all ages and at all price points here. The people who helped me were super friendly, and I saw that they were helping several other people find what they needed and answered questions. I love charming locally owned stores like this one.

This past weekend, I spent some time in downtown Muncie. While I'm nearly always in Muncie for…read morebusiness or a project, on this visit I actually had some time to do some exploring including checking out downtown's Toys Forever Models & Hobbies shop. Located in the historic Goddard building (originally built in 1884), Toys Forever is a locally owned hobby shop started in 2007 and launched an online presence in 2015. Examples of items carried include radio control, model railroad, plastic & scale model building, games, toys, Melissa & Doug, scientific and educational games, puzzles, and more. I found the employees to be delightful and well-informed and you could tell by kids in the shop that this is a hands-on establishment. This is in downtown Muncie with solidly available street parking and occasional parking lots. Some of the street parking does have a 2-hour limit, however, unless you park down at the Courtyard by Marriott (about 3-4 blocks away) you should be able to snag free parking. Downtown Muncie is a little hit-and-miss with accessibility - curb cuts are fine, however, some stores do have a step to get in them. This shop, however, is perfectly fine in terms of accessibility and the interior is surprisingly solid. Employees seemed very willing to assist as needed. Toys Forever definitely leans more toward classic toys/games/hobbies, with some exceptions. I've long thought about getting into trains and this story really fueled that desire. I don't live in Muncie, however, I would definitely return upon future visits and really enjoyed discovering this Muncie hidden gem.

There was a time in my life when you could easily catch me doing the trifecta of stores here -…read moreMichaels, PetsMart, and Marsh. Alas, life changes and I don't really frequent this corner anymore with Marsh long gone and PetsMart no longer having as many live animals as they once had. While I'm not exactly a crafty person, I've seemingly always found something I like at Michaels. It's also always been a prime option for me when I've needed something framed. I'm not a fan of Hobby Lobby for a variety of reasons - so, on those rare occasions I need something in the craft arena this tends to be where I go. I'd been looking for an affordable Christmas wreath along with a couple basic decorations. I saw the Michaels Black Friday ad and decided to stop by after church today. This location has accessible parking, though it's not ADA (there's no actual signage). There's an appropriate curb cut and automatic doors. As is nearly always true for craft stores, the aisles tend to be a bit difficult for wheelchair users. I do like that they have the shorter carts. Store personnel tended to be friendly and I will say that craft-oriented shoppers tend to be friendlier than the "cut in front of me and you'll die" shoppers at your usual big box retailers. Michaels was definitely decked out for Christmas and it really dominated the store. They have pretty much all self-serve kiosks for check-out these days - I like that they have big screens (let's face it, Michaels has a high number of older shoppers). I didn't find everything I'd hoped to find at Michaels, though I did find a couple great items at great prices. Check out was quick and the rep was super helpful. Heck, I even signed up for the rewards club (3% back on all purchases, 6% once you hit $300). They also can look up your receipts if you need to make a return - great for folks like me who tend to lose receipts. Michaels has classes, events, and they still have a great selection of frames. They're great for knitting supplies, hobby activities, art supplies, and much more. For Christmas, you can get quite a bit at a wide variety of prices. This was a solid experience. It sure wasn't five star, especially because some of the aisles definitely had some accessibility issues, but it was a very solid four-star and I'd definitely go back. I will note they frequently have items outside their door - in itself wonderful, however, at times they do block the sidewalk in case you're wanting to go to PetsMart next door. Haverty's has taken the old Marsh spot.

Just about every type of craft and hobby supply imaginable. Additionally, there is a limited…read moreinventory of fabric and sewing supplies. The staff are very helpful though the store layout is a bit cramped for ease of accessibly. Aisles are well labeled. I find the pricing to be a bit high but the sales are very good (50%) and clearance (60-70%) even better.
