This is the second or third time his hair has been jacked up from a stylist. I think it may be time to find a more reliable location. My 2 sons are (were) also regular clients. During this past year (due to the pandemic) I've been super careful, especially since my son is immunocompromised, which Karen is well aware. Since I'd been vaccinated I decided to make an appointment with her, but was refused WHEN I ASKED IF THEY WERE WEARING MASKS as is still required. She told me that as of May 1st she didn't have to anyway. I explained to her that was for outside only. Well she still wasn't interested in the least with complying with Covid restrictions and basically told me I wasn't welcome anymore. Two other clients who are friends of mine (I referred Karen to them!) said they had a similar experience as well and would not be returning. For my family it is probably just as well since we have noticed the cleanliness of the shop has gone downhill in the last couple of years. But it makes me sad that someone I had grown to care about over the last decade and a half in return cares so little about me and my family (or other client/customers). It just doesn't make sense. We did find a wonderful salon that a friend (and one of those former clients of Salon 2000) recommended. They wear masks and clean in between clients, and are more in touch with new techniques and new haircuts and color. Karen refusing to have us as clients anymore actually did us a favor.

(This isn't a breaking point for me, as long as I can get a good cut) For quality work though, it really comes down to paying attention to who's doing it. As a walk-in, Doug is my go to, and Frankie does decent work as well. However, I strongly recommend staying away from Shaun. A potential language barrier perhaps, as asking for a certain length (2in, 3in, etc.) results in just using a #2 or #3 head (1/4in - 3/8in). So on more than once occasion, a much closer cut than wanted. This even happened when I asked for 2 and a half inches, and in hindsight I feel like the (Half inch) request should have made the point, but it seems not. On top of that, sloppy work. Full size hairs, just left without any clean up. For example, I had some still an inch or two where the top of my ear met my head, and even after pointing it out, she unsuccessfully runs a razor across the general area and assumes it's good (even though the hairs are still there). All that said, it's worth the wait on Doug or Frankie if you're a walk-in, or scheduling an appointment ahead of time.

Even though we aren't strangers to one another, JR still made sure to change the sheet on the bed before we sat down after each other which definitely stuck out to me as them being clean! He explained each step of what he was doing as he did it and he showed each of us the packaged needle he would be using for our individual piercings.
