The Great Clips at Cotton Wood Mall was very rude today! I've been a customer there for about 15 years! I was looking for the instructions for the virus and didn't see it. So I went in as usual when a woman jumped all over me for not wearing a mask and for not waiting for her to check me in . I said sorry and left! I've been here at least 10 times now. The first time I had a lady cut my hair and it was excellent. Since then I've worked with Hamid, the manager, who has similar thick hair like I do and he does amazing work as well. I'm a guy so my hair isn't difficult to cut, but my hair grows at weird angles, so extra attention is needed. I've been to other Great Clips in the area and barbershops where the stylists just speed through the cut - no attention to detail - and are chatty Cathys. Not here - everyone I've met is professional. I try to check in online when I can, but i've never waited more than 15 minutes when I didn't. Went in last month with a friend and was impressed, as I had never been here before, so I decided to give it another go. This time I got a different stylist, Cindy. She was rude and apparently I was moving my head too much...which is strange because I have never had a stylist say that to me. Eh, I assumed I was tired so I tensed up so that I wouldn't bounce around and get a shit haircut. Then, she said I was too tense when she was trying to move my head...I was annoyed that I apparently wasn't pleasing her (though she should be pleasing me since I'm the fucking customer). So, I maintained my level of tense-ness. Then, she proceeded to say "loose up I"ll give you a lollipop hahahah". That pissed me off. So, I gave her a look and said "excuse me?!" She then said "oh...I'm just playing with you." So, after she said that, I was pissed as fuck. She was then messy with her combing technique and a few times the bristles got me on the forehead and the cheek. So, obviously, I didn't tip her. When she asked me how to much to charge to my card I said 14 and then she said, "the haircut 14...tip?" I gave her a stern look and said: 14. She caught me reorganizing my wallet so I think she assumed I was going to give her a cash tip. After I signed my slip I said "ok" and walked away. I ALWAYS say thank you to pretty much everyone in every setting...but I felt that she didn't deserve a tip or my manners. I then heard her grumble "ehh fuck you" under her breath. I couldn't believe it. That was just the icing on the cake for me. That is extremely professional. I can understand why she is disappointed at not getting a tip, BUT, this is a customer service business...which I received none. I worked in customer service for 5 years and understand how difficult it is...however...even if you're having a bad day or thinks get frustrating...you still have to plaster a smile on your face to please your customer. Why the fuck would I give her a tip if she was extreemely rude, condescending, and unprofessional? I understand the tips are commonplace...but why the fuck am I going to tip you if you treat me like dirt? She needs to change her approach and realize that she is not entitled to a tip after she treats her clients like garbage. read more

I've been coming here for last 7 years and today I go in for a haircut and I'm told I have 1 person ahead of me for the stylist I requested. As I'm sitting there 2 other people walk in and get priority over me because they checked in online. Now you CAN'T request a particular stylist when checking in online so when you get there you tell them you checked in online and they ask you which stylist you want. So even if you've been sitting there for 15 minutes, if someone who has checked in online comes in and happens to request the same stylist as you, you get pushed back. I understand their want to be technologically advanced by offering online check in, but don't screw your customers that are sitting in your salon. read more

I've gotten three great haircuts from this place for cheap, cheap, cheap. It's already cheap, but the first two times I went, I had a coupon from a mailer so the haircuts were around $10! I was so pissed that I had a $6.99 coupon that I let expire before I could use it this last time. Anyway, all three times, I've gotten compliments on my cuts - the usual Asian girl haircut of long bangs, long layers. And Cindy was my stylist each time. I feel like I should say something about Cindy since she's gotten slammed in these reviews. First, you have to understand that Cindy is an Asian mom type - not particularly cuddly, says it how it is. Now, if you're not used to that, it may come off as rude but for an Asian kid, I'm used to that. Heck, my own mother never had a problem telling me when I looked fat or stupid, all the while saying "I'm your mother. I'm the only one who's going to be honest with you!" Cindy is kind of like that. When I first went in, she told me that I really needed bangs because I had such a gigantic forehead. Now, it didn't sound particularly nice the way she said it, but I didn't mind because, like I said, I grew up with an Asian mom who was also very direct. And Cindy was right and she gave me a great haircut! So, I really like this place - great haircut for an amazing price. Assault by hair clipper Wow... Ive had some bad haircuts in my life and this one vaults to the top. Im still hunting for adjectives to describe this mauling of a haircut but i guess ill just get right into it. I dont know if the lady was pissed at me or something but she was just jabbing the clippers into the side of my head, glancing off into space, mesmerized by the sound of her chewing gum reverberating in her ear canals. I swear i could almost hear her giggling as she blasted little particles of hair into my eyes without warning. Her technique was so careless and sad it would inspire even the most spiteful of barracks barbers. The cut lasted about 20 minutes and cost $15. it would have ended sooner but i asked her to buzz it shorter cause im just gonna shave it off after i finish writing this. I really should have known better than to come here because im the 3rd person i know to have had their hair destroyed here... Worst haircut ever. I have long hair, and went in today for a trim. This Asian lady cut a few inches off, after I only asked for an inch off, which wasn't a big deal. She only took about 5 minutes to do my entire hair, which was surprising because I have a lot of hair and am used to hairdressers spending close to an hour. When she was done, it looked TERRIBLE. Its blunt and chopped at the ends, like she just took a scissors and chopped it off in one blow. Absolutely terrible. I'm not sure if she knows how to cut hair even.. Hairdressers usually cut vertically with a scissors, she literally just went in one straight horizontal line. The job she did on my hair is absolutely horrible.. My hair was down my back when I went in, and I always got compliments on it. Its now stubby and gross. Will never go back to this location, and I don't recommend you going here either. read more

I got a cut today by a woman (didnt get her name because i got mad) and she ruined my hair. She ignored my instructions and continued to say that her way is the correct way. Her attitude makes everything worse. I asked if i can use the dryer to get hair off my shoes, and she says "no you cant, its my dryer." That blew my mind... Avoid her she is little chubby either hispanic or asian lady. Only go there if you are looking for a simple cuts. I guess its my fault for even giving the benefit of the doubt. I started going to this place since Junior of college. I used to get my hair cut at a person's house for $10 (it was a killer deal) but It took me 30 minutes to get to the person's house. I discovered this place because it was right next to campus. I figured I might as well give it a try. The price is still within the $20 range even with tip. I didn't like how my hair turned out the first time I was here because I had a different barber at the time. But the second time, I had Ben as my barber and I really liked the way he cut my hair. I got a lot of compliments after I got that hair cut. I been coming here ever since! They occasionally sent out coupons and you can find coupons for this place form the hometown magazine. It will you a few bucks here and there. And also, make sure you get the app on your smartphone. You can check in online and that saved me a lot of time. read more

We've been using this place since forever.... at least 20 years, likely longer as we've lived in the area for 32 years. My kids are now grown up, degree'd and moved, but my wife and I still use it. Forget all those "terrible" reviews from the kiddies at UCI.. Many of them simply have no clue and they'll be gone in three or two years. In my opinion, watching the kids come and go.. I have had almost everyone there cut my hair and the price is still the best. Only thing is there is a wait on weekends. The only reason this review isn't 1 star is because of Binh. All of the other people I've had cut my hair were terrible. I just got my hair cut today and, I told the lady I wanted it to be round, because last time there were some rough edges and it didn't look symmetrical. After she finished, I looked at it and it was the same thing: not round or symmetrical. I told her that I wanted her to round it out and clean it up, and she starts saying that "your head is not perfectly round therefore your hair isn't going to look round". What the fuck? Don't I pay you to cut my hair so it looks good? All she did was run the two razors through and trim it for like 2 minutes before she was "done". I could do that shit myself at home, and it would look better than what she did. I tried telling her politely that it wasn't round, and pointed out the parts that looked really off to me, and she just got exasperated and told me she couldn't do anything about it. How the hell does she have a cosmetology degree is beyond me. After a few more minutes where she failed miserably to understand or fix my hair, she handed me off to another guy, who did a little better but was still way off anything i'd consider decent. Binh is the only one who cut my hair here that i've liked, but one person isn't going to save a whole establishment from failure. Worst place ever. I went here couple times during the last 4 years. Every time makes me super angry. If you ask for shampoo, they will wash your hair in like 30 seconds and rinse. Your will know your hair was still oily and dirty. They even did not try to "wash" your hair. They just use water to rinse it. That's it. Every time I finished my haircut and blow dry, I tried to see my hair style in the mirror. But they said: " no no. You have to leave!' I just want to say WTF? I have to leave? I paid a lot and good tip. So this is my shitty service experience. They just can't wait to ask you go away after you paid. Had a horrible experience with the mushroom hair Asian Lady. She refuses to do what you tell her and does her own thing. I left my hair long and asked her to do a comb over. She immediately said "oh your hair is straight, its hard to style a comb over" - I'm here thinking it's your job to cut my hair the way i want to and I'm the one who should worry about styling it. I even purposely left my hair long so it can be easier to cut it since the last time I went there to get the same style by a different guy, he said I should leave my hair longer so it'll be easier to style and cut it. But He never complained about it and went straight away to do a good job. But this lady... kept saying its hard to style and that I need strong gel to do it. I told her repeatedly that I have the gel at home. And still, she went and cut it super short into like a normal straight spiky style. When I asked her why arent you doing a comb over, she has the audacity to come up with a bullsh*t excuse like "ohh comb over is just use comb to comb it over"... She then uses her comb and some gel to comb my short hair to just a little to the side.... The result was horrible. I gave her a $1 dollar tip straight in her face. read more
