The first time I went to Allen was actually to fix my hair from my previous hair person. I was almost in tears because my hair was orange literally the week after I got it done and dropped so much money. my hair felt so dry and looked like I havent gotten my hair done in a year. I tried to tell myself it doesn't look that bad but the more I looked at it, the more upset I got. So I was looking for someone on yelp to help me fix this and came across Moc Hair Studio. The reviews were great and although I was nervous I couldn't stand to look at my hair anymore the way it was so I took the leap of faith and gave it a try. Allen was so informative and let me know what exactly my previous hair person did to make it look like that. He explained what he will do to fix it and throughout the entire process I could tell how meticulous he was. I felt like I was in good hands and after he was done, my hair looked like what I wanted it to look like in the first place!! I was so impressed with his work that I decided the next time I needed my hair done I'm coming back. Fast forward to yesterday.. I wanted a change with my hair so I decided to go back to Allen and see what magic he could work. I wanted to try something a bit different from what I usually go for and I knew Allen could do it but from previous trauma of going to the same person multiple times and never getting exactly what I wanted, I was still scared. Again he calmed my nerves by taking his time and making sure everything looked perfect. I've never been to anyone before where I felt like I was his only customer ever by the way he was taking second third and even fourth looks to make sure the color is right, the hair is even on both sides, and the hair is healthy and not damaged!! Because my hair is so stubbornly straight, the curls didn't hold perfectly the first time around. But the founder is absolutely amazing--she was incredibly sweet and offered me a second session completely free of charge! I came back a week later so she could assess my hair and redo the process to make sure it turned out exactly how I wanted. In total, the process took about 5-6 hours, and the cost was $500 for the root lift and perm. It was totally worth it for the level of care, patience, and dedication they showed. Had high hopes for him as he did a nice job on IG page. I saw him when he was working in Tustin/Irvine salon utilizing a booth space. I was a little early so he was finishing up and they were chatting and he was cursing. No big deal as i'm sure we all use profanity. He was chatty with the girl before me but I did not get that. I showed him an inspo photo and he immediately said "that won't work, her torso longer than yours" ok. "Something like that is fine. He then proceeds to insult me by saying how I have thick hair and that I should find a "specialist" that works on my type of hair. I felt and it came off as rude! I'm thinking, I'm Asian, don't you work on Asian hair? He then proceeds to check my hair out not feeling it and said that there is not much for him to do except to take a little off and that he will still charge me $90/$95 whatever his prices were. I've paid more for haircuts so it wasn't a concern. I said that's fine. The whole experience was just awkward, I've initiated the conversation by asking him questions and he would answer and not ask me anything besides who colors your hair what do you use and making suggestions on formula and products to use(told me to use serum and applied it on for me to show difference BEFORE he started My haircut/style. To ensure to stays the right amount of healthy I asked for a brown ashy shade, and she recommended milk tea brown shade with a bit more ash than normal to reach my targeted shade! She absolutely nailed it. The color came out so close to the reference photo, and it suits me perfectly.
