A laid-back and "alternative" feeling barber shop giving pretty consistent cuts across the various stylists. They take pictures and notes after the end of every cut for next time, so it feels similar to big-name chain stores like Supercuts, but in my experience much higher quality. Perfect for people with little time or attention to their personal style (aka me). Gracious with post-cut washes if you want one. They also offer water of various temperatures, coffee, sodas, and a local beer on tap while you wait. I get a pretty standard fade and combover on top. Across all the stylists I've had, Michelle has been the most consistent and efficient at this, with special attention to my annoying cowlicks, but I haven't gotten a *bad* cut from anybody. Premis is dankuts documents your haircut so next hair cut any of their barbers can deliver the same cut. However some barbers are more talented than others. My last 2 haircuts I asked if I could wait for a specific barber that has given me exceptional fades in the past. I was told I would have to have my hair cut by the next barber in the Que. My last 2 visits I got a barber that was learning how to do fades and messed up my midline. For $40 plus a $10 tip at least set me up with a barber that does fades. read more

Unfortunately, I will never come here again. I simply asked for my back of my head to be cut short, and instead the barber decided to shave down the entire side and entire back of my head when I explicitly told him to leave the sides alone. He even wanted to cut the top short(and proceeded to do so) and honestly made the whole experience terrible. I had a very expensive perm done and he just shaved it all off. I know it's just one employee but this isn't the first time I've had an unpleasant experience with this place. I tried to give it a 2nd chance but just ended in disappointment . The problem with this place's system is that every barber is different despite the same "training". I wish I could only choose one person to go to but we can never choose who we get to cut our hair. Not everyone of the employees know how to cut certain types of hair and some just don't know how to cut a specific style despite all having the same "training". I love this place! My boyfriend's go to spot to get his haircut since his work office is nearby. The cool thing about danckutz is that they have a process where they outline the shape of your head and facial structure which helps find an ideal haircut and style for you. It gets saved into their system, so no matter who is your barber/stylist they will be able to recreate that exact style. If you decide to change up a style, that can be inputted into the system as well. The location has a variety of beverages to sip on while you wait, and every staff member has been great. We've worked with Jess a few times, who is the absolute nicest. I made an appointment online for my boyfriend and myself, so we could come in together for our haircuts. Appointment only folks. They won't take you as a walk-in. Just a heads up on that. They also have a 10 minutes late policy. Meaning, if you don't show up on time for your appointment, you have a 10 minute grace period to make it there. After the 10 minute grace period, they can give away your appointment. So be on-time. That's important! My boyfriend's barber was Gage. He was friendly and explained the process. They tailor cuts based on your head shape and bone structure. They also create a profile in the system, so you can get the same cut every time- if you want. And you can technically go to any barber, and they will have your profile. Which is pretty awesome. I sat in the "waiting" area and watched while my boyfriend got his haircut. It was pretty fast too. We were in and out quickly! I got a trim from the female barber while he got his done. Very straightforward place. The haircuts are good. My boyfriend's haircut came out great. Of course, I'm a little biased, because I think he always looks handsome no matter what. But seriously, the cut is top notch! He has model hair. $30 for a haircut. 5 star experience with an owner that takes pride in his business and stands behind their service. My young teen son's first experience (Lake Forest location) was none too great as he received a much shorter haircut than he wanted. Zac, the owner, reached out to find out what happened to try to rectify the situation, which I appreciated. Since nothing could be done immediately (can't put hair back), he offered to comp his next haircut once it grew out. We recently took him up on his offer and went to the Irvine location. My son left smiling, which makes this mama happy. The Irvine shop was clean and had about 4(?) chairs. They were busy so even with an appointment we were taken about 20 minutes late. They cut my boyfriend's hair and this is honestly the worst I've ever seen his hair cut. His hair was pretty long so there was a lot to work with and she basically just chopped it all off and left just a chunk of hair on top and his hair looked like Kim jong un?? She undercutted the side of his hair on both sides up to like 2 inches from the top of his head and then had to ask her coworker why the hair was sticking up when the answer was clearly because she undercutted way too high. At the end the same coworker had to step in because she couldn't properly blend the back of his hair and left a huge unblended chunk of hair in the middle of the back of his head. AND she never showed him the back of his head so I had to take a picture and show it to him. She also always had him facing away from the mirror so he couldn't see what she was doing. We just don't understand what she was thinking and it seems like she really didn't know what she was doing. It sucks because it's to the point that he can't even go somewhere else to fix it because then he'll just need to get a buzz cut because the top is so weirdly short it's unsalvageable. He's just going to need to wear a hat and wait until it grows out to fix. If you're Asian beware. Our experience made us feel that not all the barbers have experience working with Asian hair types and you can't choose who cuts your hair. They also have a sign at their hair washing stations that says "if you want a long, sensual hair wash you should go to garden grove" which is really strange and racially insensitive to us? I don't understand why they would have a sign like that and what they're implying with such a thing. UPDATE: the owner reached out and agreed that the hair cut was bad and said the woman who cut it was in training. He offered to comp hair cuts and personally fix/have only managers cut my bfs hair in exchange for removing this review afterwards if my bf was happy with his hair. But then he asked my bf to take down this review in the meantime before even receiving the first make up hair cut and we didn't feel comfortable taking him up on this offer anymore. Was greeted by Gage for my appointment time and he went over the process with me which was super unique! Went over how my haircut is coded specifically to my head and characteristics of my skull to maintain consistency every time I come in. Gage was super friendly and we chatted about random things in general. Since it was my first time he made sure the length was as I wanted it before continuing or going shorter which I appreciated. I have been going to Danckuts since before the pandemic, and I still go every 3 to 4 weeks. I love their approach to consistency and excellence. I never have to stress out about having to explain everything to someone who's never cut my hair before, since everything is on file for any stylist to follow. They constantly update my profile with new/important changes for others to see. It's a fun learning experience for me as well, as sometimes they share their expertise with me on certain unique aspects about my head/hair. E.g. a few visits ago, Jessica told me my "parietal ridges" sit a little lower, and made a note about it so I don't end up with bald spots on the sides (an issue I always had). She also taught me what my protrusion on the back of my head is called (occipital). Call me weird but it's pretty fascinating and make for a fun conversation during a haircut. (By the way the staff there are all professional and knowledgeble but also personable and easy to converse with.) Basically Dankcuts has figured out a way to break down every haircut into a standard set of templetized features, and I think their system will always work well, especially if the customer is willing to work with it, i.e. contribute to the system by providing helpful feedback, e.g. what/why they liked or didn't like from the last haircut so the stylist can take the feedback and translate it into their process language, and leave a note in the system. Case in point - I recently changed my style several months ago, and after consulting with them, they told me I need to grow out my top for a 2 - 3 month so that the weight of my hair will naturally tame my top back, and all the necessary notes were in the system to leave the top alone, so I didn't have to re-explain everything everytime I had someone new cut my hair. They all have shared access to my profile which has all the notes in their common language. One thing what would be nice to see is an easy way for me to remember who cut my hair after each appointment. I've been going for years, but only managed to remember a couple of names. I think it will help me and other customers feel more connected and come back, even if they may not be the one to cut your hair next time. I really hope they stick around for a long time! read more

It's a unique barbershop in that all your haircut info is electronically stored on file, so anyone who cuts your hair will know exactly what to do. You don't get to choose your barber, but it means that making an appointment is always easy. I have been growing out my hair and it's in a transition phase so I wanted to find a new barber that was able to cut my hair with a new style. It's not crazy confusing but it's also not the simplest. They have a unique system which helps with efficiency and having the same cut, no matter who it is. I deducted one star because although it works for the most part, I did have a couple really bad cuts that set me back on my progress. However, customer service reached out proactively and made things right, along with the manager. The idea behind this place is good, but the execution just doesn't work. I had two good haircuts from Jessica, but no one else can get it right after two years of coming here once a month. I really wanted to like the place, but the inconsistency of haircut quality along with the new price of $40 (increased from $35) is making me go back to my previous barber. Omar the Barber is in South OC and gave me a consistent high quality cuts for 8 years at $25. In response to the note from the owner, awesome customer service correcting an unhappy client. The roller coaster of experiences here. Had horrible experiences.. but I figured I'd give this another shot after bad cuts and nasty attitudes, arrogance and lack of hygiene. I had been finally coming in and getting a great experience and good cuts from Gage, but because of their ridiculous system, which doesn't work btw, they are demanding that I work with someone who I've never seen or met. Relationship building is a part of a great experience I don't care what anyone tells me. I'm here and they're demanding I go before a 1:30 even though I'm a 2pm? I'm not trying to be difficult just ask for a very small exception having had horrendous experiences here in the past. Just let me give your business money, and leave. Why make it difficult for the sake of making it difficult? Why not have any level of note taking on my account to talk about my past situations so you can properly handle? I get if a hair stylist is saying they've done this a long time and will give me a great hair cut and I am hesitant it can be seem personal but it's not.
