I don't often write reviews but man this place is awesome. I'm new to Irvine and needed to find a new haircut spot, and Danckuts did not disappoint. I love their system and the people who work there are very chill. After my first cut, I received a personal text (not spam bot lol) from the owner Zac asking how I liked the process and my cut. I mentioned that it could have been shorter on the sides but overall it was a solid cut. He told me to come in for a touch up, which I did, and Zac personally talked me through the philosophy and approach of Danckuts, which was really insightful. Zac was so damn nice and gracious about his business and so patient with the adjustments to my cut. I have never seen this level of genuine care in a company, especially one with more than 1 location. I'm truly grateful to have found Danckuts and for the experience. I've been going to this location for the last 3 years and I am a fan of their concept where your haircut is done right every time no matter who is cutting it due to their meticulous system of information in their database about your style. I've gone through at least 6-8 different personnel throughout the years and my haircut is always solid. Staff is engaging and friendly and the work areas are clean and organized. Prior to going to Danckuts, I bounced around barbers that left me with a hard, side part that was way too high. Danckuts helped me map out how to fix it and I've been happy with my hair ever since. They pay incredible attention to work with your head shape, and even though at the end of the day, the decisions are mine, they work with me and provide insights to help me decide on how to have it cut/styled. Well where shall I start or should I just show pictures. Butchered is a nice way to put what happened to my sons hair. Showed them pictures and clearly asked if they could do this cut and confidently the barber said yes. Take a look at the photos and let me know if this constitutes a yes. We also told him to just slightly trim the top, but he ended up taking off 3 inches. I rather have someone be honest and tell us the truth if they're not comfortable with a haircut. I've been going here for almost a year every single two weeks. I actually can't believe I haven't put a review in yet. The setup here is a little weird and honestly I felt some type of way when it was explained to me that they had their own technology would keep my hair consistent every single time even though it would be a different person cutting my hair each time! WHOAAA, I know right?! I have to say, I have had 100% SUCCESSFUL haircuts and I'm extremely picky. I used to go to the same barber for 6 years wherever he would work so that I would have consistency. I moved, and I was so worried about finding someone in this new area that I would like. It is appointment only here, which I was also worried about just because I'm not always a planner, but this has been an absolute blessing. There are "time blocks" for each guest, so that you're never rushed through your haircut, there's nobody staring at you from the lobby awaiting their turn. You have a set time, and the barber will give you the attention, support, and time you deserve, as fast or as slow as you like. On multiple occasions, the barber doing my hair has gone above and beyond to spend extra time explaining and fixing my hair to take it to the next level when they really could have just rushed through it and gone on their way. This place is not pretentious in anyway, everyone here has a great personality when it comes to supporting their guests. JESS specifically, but some of the other team members as well, I really am feeling like they're part of my weekly family visit and more. This is a place I visit before any IMPORTANT MOMENT in my life. I was here the day before my engagement, I was here the day before my wedding and on. Been coming to Danckuts Irvine for 2 years or so now, and I've always had a positive experience. The haircut itself is consistent and ends up looking good no matter which stylist I work with that week. Honestly though my favorite part is that there's barely any wait time as long as I come during my appointment time. As an overall summary: this place is downright INCONSISTENT. If you want to read more about my experience, feel free. Otherwise, find a barber who can consistently cut your hair the right way. I was really hoping for this place to be consistently good. First I want to say that the place looks great and has a nice vibe to it. But now that I've got my haircut here 4 times, my first time was unfortunately the only good experience I had. The first time you get your haircut here, you get it done by one of the best barbers in the shop. I would call this first cut the grooming phase. They tell you that they document everything, and have everything down to a science when it comes to cutting hair. During this first cut, they constantly check in and make sure that you are getting the haircut you desire. After documenting and taking a picture of your haircut, they reassure you that no matter who cuts your hair henceforth, it will be consistent every time. This was a red flag to me because I am used to having a one-on-one barber experience who is consistent. But I decided to give this place a fair shake. My second time coming back, I thankfully had the same barber who remembered how my hair was cut. It was not exactly the same, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt on my third cut. The third was my first time getting a cut from a different barber in the shop, and it did not turn out well. I voiced these concerns after, and they gave me a free touch-up by the barber who cut my hair the first and second time. They dismissed my concerns about the cut, saying that if I had just asked, it would have turned out the same way. But nowhere during the cut by the other barber did this person ever check in with me to see if he was doing it right until the end. I decided to give them one last try, which was today. It was with a completely different barber who cut my hair completely wrong. And I realized that part of the reason why it was completely wrong was because of the way they documented my cut. The first time I came in, I asked for a midpart hairstyle, which was written down as an undercut. An undercut hairstyle is NOT the same as the midpart hairstyle I initially requested. THEY OVERSIMPLIFIED MY HAIRCUT! Where's the science in that??? I believe this is the flaw in their system. They oversimplify your haircut, which, if you have a simple haircut, is not a big deal. But for me, it was waay too oversimplified. Even after voicing that my haircut was not the same after this fourth time, they only gave me a $5 discount, when posted literally on their wall is a guaranteed haircut that we want or we don't pay anything. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be coming back here. If you can help it, find a barbershop where you can find a barber who will consistently cut your hair the right way. This place can never replace that type of experience. read more

If you're looking for consistency - which they hail as what sets them apart from the rest - look elsewhere, they can't figure it out. I'm upset that I'm leaving a 2 star review, because I tried to give this place a chance, but the lack of consistency between visits and the inability to request a stylist means I won't be coming back. I've visited this location 5 times in total. The first time was one of the best haircuts i've ever received, and was thrilled. 2nd time - one of the worst i've ever had, and the team told me on the 3rd time that it was the owner who cut my hair last, and that she doesn't cut hair very often. She shouldn't cut hair at all after what she gave me. 3rd cut was OK, but I had to ask them to even out the back, and she argued that she just followed my hairline. Great - but it's completely lopsided. 4th time was a really long cut - 45 min, but she did a good job. Unfortunately, I got really irritated by the gossip between the women. Guys don't want to hear it, and they don't go to places to hear you cackle and gossip. The 5th time was with the same stylist as my first cut, so I was thrilled. But it was a terrible cut. She didn't even touch the back, and I said forget it and just left. That's it. I got 2 good haircuts out of 5 visits, and so you get 2 stars out of 5. But I won't be back. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here for the past few months and I think it's time that I move on. I started off happy with the easy scheduling and friendly service, but the last 3 out of 4 haircuts I've had here have not been good. In fact, the last haircut I got here was downright bad. Bad enough that my wife ridiculed me for paying $40 for it, and bad enough that I'm annoyed every time I look at it. Here's why it was so bad. This location always has 4 chairs going and it's first come first serve. Two of the "technicians" are always very good, solid. The other two are really not very good. I've gotten the latter 2 the past few times I've come. I'm not trying to be mean, but the "head mapping" just doesn't work when the person cutting your hair is not very skilled. It's like giving an amateur artist some very detailed instructions, and expecting them to recreate an original drawing. My last 2 haircuts looked exactly like someone tried to trace a drawing. It was vaguely similar to what I wanted, but with no style, no technique, and plenty of uneven and missed spots. And no, you cannot request or decline a specific stylist. Honestly, I don't have time to sit there and try to fix everything that's wrong with my haircut. Even if I wanted to, how are you supposed to make it more even when it's already shorter than I want in many areas? How do you tell them to make it more even when they have been trying to make it even the whole time? I'm not even that picky about my hair, I just don't want it to suck. Unfortunately, this last one really sucked. Either way, I'm not knocking this place for what it is. It's a good place to get your haircut and they do a lot of things right. I just can't keep taking a 50% risk of getting an amateur, when I'm paying professional prices. read more

TL;DR Great place to get your haircut and you always get the same cut (if desired) each time. Scheduling is a breeze and they have beer on TAP! Me: Male with a short parted hair style. I typically go evenings on a weekday. Haircut ($35): They use a high tech system (I'll probably butcher explaining it), to "memorize" your haircut. On the first visit you explain the desired haircut, and they have a picture book to help you select styles on each part of your head (sides, front, back you get the idea). After you select your style they cut the hair and then log the process. Basically you get your haircut saved and every time you go back, no matter who is cutting your hair, it's the same. Every. Time. I get my haircut once a month and it's always the same! I am a male with short hair and my haircut takes about 30 minutes with a wash. They take photos after each visit to ensure their guarantee of satisfaction. (This is from memory I highly suggest going to get the full information) Scheduling: If you are like me, and take a "set it and forget" approach, they schedule your next appointment right after your haircut. I tend to go monthly (gotta look fresh) and never have scheduling conflicts (no chairs available). They also email you a reminder AND text you the day before AND two hours before you appointment. I tend to forget when my appointment is so the reminders are nice! I have cancelled one appointment and it's really easy. No obligation from my experience. I have made a one off appointment (online, very easy and I believe you can call but it's 2022 so websites are my choice). Atmosphere: The shop is clean, brightly lit, and welcoming. They have a beer tap in the waiting area and chairs with a TV. I enjoy the waiting area but, sadly I rarely get to use it since they are so dialed in with their appointment system. They have non-alcoholic drinks along with canned alcohol beverages. Best part? It's free! Well, included with your haircut. The music playlists change each time I go but it's always good music, this is subject to taste but I haven't had a bad experience due to the music. Staff: Great staff, sadly my memory isn't the best and I forget names but everyone is very friendly, attentive, and caring. You always feel welcomed and invited to ask questions or suggestions. Every stylist / barber takes their time cutting your hair. All in all it's a great place to get your haircut, especially if you want the same cut over and over again.
