I'm dumbfounded that there is anything less than a 4-star review here. It seems all those reviews are from over five years. I have only been coming here for two years. Their app estimating wait times is fantastic, especially on Fridays, weekends, and holidays. It's easy to get to, and parking is a breeze. You're always greeted and checked in the second you walk in. If you aren't seated in the barber's chair immediately, it will only be a couple of minutes. They always do a great job on my hair in 15-20 minutes max. If you feel like talking, they will happily. Good day, bad day, they have heard it all. Don't quite feel like shooting the breeze today? No worries. You're still comfortable. They all do a fantastic job. Not sure what's up with the whack reviews of this place. It is great for what it is. A clean, quick, easy way to get a no frills haircut. Now, if you go here thinking you are getting a 5* salon treatment, your expectations will not be met. I took my son here for a cut on a random Friday afternoon. We booked and got in line via the app (super easy). We still had to wait for a few minutes but nothing too terrible. The haircut was exactly what we were looking for. I had horrible experience. Yesterday, January 27, 2023, at approximately 2pm CT, at the store at 5500 Greenville Ave, Suite 606, Dallas, TX 75206, I went in to get a haircut. The Martinez lady that cut my hair butchered the hair and did not apologize. The haircut seemed rushed and for no reason. There weren't very many people in the store. As I was heading out, the younger African American lady with black hair that was cutting hair at the store started saying bad things to me when I made the comment that Martinez cut my hair too short. The hair stylists are great people but at the end of the day, my hair is crooked. I asked for a three inch trim and normally go to a Great Clips type place if I'm not doing anything drastic. I ended up with 1.5 inches cut on the left side and 2 inches cut on the right. Kind of guesstimating those measurements, but the point is that one side is definitely longer than the other. The hair isn't even on each side either so it's really an all around disappointment. I'm too scared to go back and get it fixed for fear that they chop off more with the same janky result. read more

Well, I usually go here and trust them with a simple buzz cut and they get it right. This time I tried something a bit more fancy, and it looks like a hack job. I asked for a tight fade from a 1 to a 3 and about 2 inches left on top. What I got was reminiscent of a bowl cut with about 4 inches left on top. She seemed so disgruntled when I asked her to fix it. After "fixing it" I got the 2 inches on top, but still a sloppy looking bowl cut. I didn't bother asking again fearing it would only make it worse. Not anywhere near the picture I showed from my last haircut at the Boardroom Salon. Great clips by Target in Mesquite TX completely messed my son's hair up. He asked for a 1 on the sides and a fade to 3 on top. She gave him a 1 all over! The top has long tufts of hair- all she would do was talk to co-workers- she did not pay attention! it looks disgusting. He tipped well, and did not deserve this. I have been in Dallas for 8 years, before that I lived in San Diego, Ca and had the same hair dresser for 18 years. I have been back to San Diego for a visit and returned to my hair dresser but my visits were few and far between. I have tried several different stylists in Dallas but none of them seem to know how to cut my hair to my satisfaction, at least until I went to Great Cuts. The lady there did a great job. I just asked for 2 inches off and no layers. I didn't want anything too extreme - just as basic as possible. Call me boring. Almost never have to wait to get my hair cut. If there is a wait, its never more than a few minutes. The staff is always friendly and im in and out in no time flat. As a regular, I receive coupons in the mail every month. Two of them are for haircuts for 4.99 and the third is a completely free haircut! Ive never spent more than 5 bucks on a haircut (my first cut was done on a coupon too). Granted, I still tip, but its still hard to beat those prices. I never get anything fancy- just a trim on the top and a buzz on the side, so I can't really speak for the more stylish side of hair cutting, but the point of this place seems to be simplicity anyway. I'll explain in a second the one-star review when I'm actually rating one haircutter -- a middle-aged woman named Marlene, a movie makeup artist by trade who only cuts hair to make ends meet, she said. I went to Great Clips hoping to get a better haircut than I get at Supercuts in Medallion Center, where what I get is okay but no haircutter there, not even the manager, knows how to cut one aspect of shoulder-length hair combed from a side part. I told Marlene EXACTLY what I wanted -- long layers like I get at the other place -- only with the hair from the part combed to the side not angling up like a duck's tail. By the time I realized I was not getting a professional haircutter, it was too late. Instead of long layers, she gave me SUPER short layers all around, actually ugly jagged layers like a child might have cut, AND that let the light show through from the front making it look like I have thin hair. She also didn't cut the side the way I explained. It's going to take eight months to a year to grow the layers out. I am utterly depressed. I also think sticking with the one-star review here is appropriate because Great Clips called this person in when short-staffed. I paid to have a haircut that was not difficult and I should have received at least an experienced haircutter. When I asked Marlene if she ever did hair on the movie sets she said, "Oh God no; not creative enough for me.'" No haircutting salon should hire someone whose primary job is not haircutting. read more
