I have nothing bad to say about this Great Clips. Supporting local salons is appealing until you see the price tag, and as someone who doesn't want anything fancy with my haircuts (just a few inches off, maybe some layers) I've gotten exactly what I wanted every time. I even met the manager who helped me schedule a blowout for a photoshoot and it turned out lovely, he was efficient as well, and it was the cheapest option (also lowkey the only spot open for hair styling on a Monday evening). Using my husband's yelp account (don't have one) to say I will never return to this location. I asked for bangs trimmed and about two inches off the rest of my hair. The stylist then proceeded with the fastest and most unpleasant haircut I've ever had. He pushed my head forward and cut the back of my hair, then he pushed my head sideways and cut, hand across my forehead and chopped away at the bangs. You get the idea. The experience was unpleasant, made even worse when I got home and realized he cut a section of my hair that is halfway back from my forehead as if it was bangs. (Hard to explain but on one side he added what reminds me of the beginning of a "shag" haircut). He didn't ask or explain and I couldn't see what he was doing because my head was down - he just cut wildly. . read more

The tall lady giving my haircut did not follow the instructions at all. She was shearing me like a sheep in the back when I asked for my hair to be blended in. She was not comfortable with me turning around to see how the hair looked and as soon as I did, she gave up and didn't want to continue cutting my hair. I love this place! Ana and Dani are miracle workers when it comes to cutting my hair which is fine texture but sort of thick sort of not. They always make me look clean and polished and listen to all of my "hair concerns". Awesome a style tips too. Occasionally Mike or Trinity will cut my hair and both are very talented as well. This is an awesome, convenient spot and the prices are fair compared to other salons. Checking in online is a breeze. A+! read more

This shop just relocated but I went to their previous location on Diversey several times and I've always come out with a good haircut at a great price. This may not be the place if you have some complicated haircut that you're anal about but for a basic haircut they get the job done. They usually have three or more people working so there usually isn't much of a wait. If you can get in weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and noon, a haircut is only $9.99. Otherwise, it's $14. read more

Mike is my absolute favorite stylist in Chicago. I've gone to other places to get my hair cut and even sat in other stylists' chairs at this Great Clips location, but nobody listens and cuts like Mike. I'm growing out my hair right now so I'm a relatively "easy" trim, but it makes such a difference when I can walk out the door still feeling like my hair is long. Mike is also great at evening up my bangs and layers each time so I don't look too scraggly. My God, I went in for a clip and turned out god awful. The stylist sheared me as if I was a sheep, tough, not paying attention and not my regular length. Told him to keep the length on top and trim it clean, he diced off inches. I felt like I was something he was just tolerating, not a paid customer sitting in his chair. Never again. read more

I came here right when they opened at 9 AM to get about 4 inches cut off my obnoxiously long hair. They offer a special where you can get your haircut for 10 bucks between 9 AM and noon on weekdays. After getting subpar haircuts previously at other GC locations near my home (Lincoln Square and Addison Mall), I decided to venture out to Lincoln Park 12/6/2020 to give their location a shot. Lo and behold, the stylist I was paired with understood my needs/concerns, and it was evident in the final haircut result! Her name was Latifah, I believe? A shorter, shoulder-length haircut is my go-to hair style. I expressed to her the fact the stylists at other locations would either cut my hair too short, wouldn't cut my hair enough to make a difference in length, or left my hair uneven at the tips. She was very patient in listening, and overall had a very warm personality from consultation to checkout. I'm only taking off one star because there is no ample outdoor waiting spot/area, let alone an existent one. They're located on a strip on Broadway where the sidewalk is not spacious and they're next door to UPS where people often wait in line to enter, line sometimes extending past this GC business's entrance and thus blocking it. I waited outside approximately 10 minutes not properly distanced between the people waiting to enter UPS and GC's door. They don't have an indoor waiting area given they're following social distancing and safe COVID-19 guidelines. Nothing they can't do about this situation, but in the cold Windy City weather approaching ahead this could pose a conflict with people waiting outside. Overall, I'll be frequenting this location for haircuts. read more

I always come here to get my hair cut or trimmed because of it's convenience and also because it offers a great student discount. I've never been one to pay $20+ for a trim so Great Clips is the perfect option. I never check-in online (their version of an appointment) but there never is much of a wait which is nice. The hair cut itself, since it is a trim usually lasts pretty short so it's quick and easy! However, last time I was here the hair stylist was so rough with my head by the end I was sure he had pulled out more hairs than cut. I understand my hair may have been tangled but he was really going at it with the comb to get the knots out and I feel like it could have been done a lot gentler. In general he was rough during the cut as well and while the final look ended up fine it wasn't the most enjoyable hair cut I've had. The venue is nice and clean but this experience really caught me off guard and I will have to check who is working next time before I walk in so as not to experience the same thing. read more

Worst hair cut I have ever had. First of all the "hair stylist" slapped my hand because it had been years since my last visit. I found this inappropriate and unwelcoming. I went in for clean up. I thought this simple task could have easily been done by anyone that is in the business hence me going to Great Clips. My hair is now completely uneven, areas were completely missed and while trimming the sides he buzzed up so high that my simple request for a clean up has turned into me franticly looking for a place that can salvage what little style is left. The wait is never too long here, and even if the wait was, my haircut was still always great. The team here is fun to chat with, and take their time with each customer. First time going to great clips. Typically I go to a salon and the price is so much more for a haircut and wash. I am 100% going back to see Trinity again. He was super professional, personable, and efficient. I was in and out with my hair cut (dramatic from short in the back and longer in the front). 10/10 will be seeing him again. My hair is pretty simple to do. And Mike took all of 5 minutes to do it. The top seems ok but the back is asymmetrical and with a weird invected half circle instead of a straight line. This Great Clips is alright. The staff is friendly but the few times that I've visited, they made mistakes. The first girl that cut my hair was excellent, so I came back. The next one gave me a slightly uneven hair cut but it wasn't anything I couldn't touch up myself. The most recent experience was embarrassing because the stylist said my previous haircut didn't look great, which I agreed with but after she gave me a trim and tried to fix the uneven sections, she said she still didn't like it but there was nothing else she could do. I let her know that I didn't mind losing length as long as the mistakes were corrected. My hair at the time was mostly all one length so I thought it would be a fairly simple correction. I decided to pay more at another salon to receive more consistent cuts. I hope to return in the future because it's so close to home and reasonable in price but unfortunately it's not an option at this point in time. read more

I love this salon! I have a boyish pixie cut that I am very particular about, and a fear of haircuts has had me cutting it myself for years. This is the only place I've been to with stylists who seem to really listen to what I want and give such satisfactory results! I've been seeing Stephanie here for months (by coincidence! she always ends up the one cutting my hair) and she's incredibly sweet and funny, and so easy to talk to! She always does a great job -- I know I'm going to have a great day every time I see her! She's really respectful of me trimming my bangs and sides in between haircuts, too, which I appreciate! Checked in online way before noon, braved the - 25 windchills to get there, ended up arriving due to traffic and weather at 12:02, and they wouldn't honor the early bird special that ended at 12. The former store on Diversey would have honored it as long as I was checked in, and in fact did so in the past. Not the way to treat a regular customer, so they lost this one. read more

I went in for a simple 1inch trim of my hair and ended up loosing about 4inches. I had long hair with a slight angle, I don't think the girl knew what that meant because before I knew it I was missing half of my hair in the front. It was a waste of money and now I'll have to wait months for my hair to grow back out. read more
