The wall of windows at the back of the great room is so hight, you can stand and view over the tops of the 70-80-foot fur trees that line the backyard, with its breath-taking views of the bay and Mt. Baker in the distance. The kitchen is wonderful with a huge granite island, and huge. We loved the master bedroom with its SleepNumber bed. Three fireplaces, an office, a study, kitchen, dining room, master suite with large walk-in clots connected to the laundry room, magnificent great room and entry--and that's just downstairs. Another king bedroom with balcony, queen bedroom and bath await up the staircase. Beautiful wood floors and ceilings, back patio with fire-pit, hot tub... starting to get the idea? The grounds are beautiful, and they keep the rooms so well maintained. Even if there are other guests while you are there, you can interact as much or little with them as you want - however, this is the perfect place to meet new people! Derek and Yvette are all about community and love hearing about your story. Depending on your time of visit, I highly suggest to do a fire pit/s'mores and hang out in the yard! First, and most importantly, innkeepers Charlene and Beth were absolutely stellar. Friendly and helpful at every turn. Glad they were there to greet us when we arrived ahead of schedule and give us guidance about where to go until our room was ready. Our room was very comfortable. Nice cozy bed and great bath towels; a very important detial that is often that's overlooked. The inside common areas of the inn were very nice. Well-appointed community kitchen. We had a king room with a large deck. The view from our deck across the Saratoga Passage included unostructed views of Whidbey Ialand. When the sky was clear, the view included an incredible sunset, crescent moon, and the comings and goings of bats which we just loved. The inn is centrally located to nearby parks and access to the island's amazing food offerings including Cama Beach Cafe, Blue Heron, Vivo, The Baked Cafe (recommended by Charlene), and more. Nearby, we also enjoyed a wonderful tour of Matzke Gallery and Sculpture Garden, and shared time with the owner, Karla Matzke. If you prefer, you can prepare meals in the kitchen. Understand, this is more like an AirB&B. You will be provided with a numeric key for the front door and your room. Staff is available on a somewhat limited basis. Coffee is provided in the lobby, but you may need to make more as needed. The reason I have left this as a four-star review is that there were a few issues with the property. I reached out the manager and she "promised" these matters would be addressed. It's unlikely we'll get back there anytime soon and hope she will keep her word. Yes, it is the little things!

I will start by saying I was very let down by this location. I booked this through my Delta stays…read moreand expected it to be more on the up and up. When I first arrived it was like a ghost town, there was no other car anywhere around . When First arriving I looked around the grounds and overall it looked pretty but was not kept up at all, tons of potential for the gardens and I could easily have those grounds looking amazing in a matter of a couple of days and very little cost. Now its time to go inside, the front door entrance is manned by a digital smart lock to get in. There are no employees inside either, empty desk sitting by the door thats small, over to the left a small coffee pot and a water kettle and then a room with what looks like for the Bistro that also has apparently been closed for a long time and breakfast was something mentioned. The inside is very pretty but very dated. A friend of mine found some history about the place they also do not like to add to their site and they should since some would love it. Apparently the place is supposed to be haunted, a long time ago it says it was a nursing home and other things. I joked that my room or my toothbrush was haunted the first night but thats a story for another time. Going past the office area there is what looks like once was a bar for people to come and have a drink and hangout, it just had bottles of water on the bar. To the right there is a room with a couch, some chairs and a fireplace I did not see turned on once or a way to turn it on easily. Got to my room next which was number 2 and straight in from the front entrance pretty much. The rooms are also on a smart lock and they text you these codes way ahead of time, I sure hope they randomize them too after stays. I go into the room and its smaller than I was expecting but thats fine, to the left we have a closet with a couple of the roughest robes I ever decided to try on, they feel like a cheap towell and same type of material. The bathroom is right after that closet and the bathroom is not too horrible but also a bit dated, they could not even match the light bulbs. The shower looked like it could use a good cleaning including the showerhead with a lot of scale buildup. The mirror had chips in it and sharp edges being a bit unsafe for those not paying attention. Now into the room itself, there was an antique style dresser that was not antique, you can see the wood warping on the top from moisture as well. On that there is one of the smallest tv's ever with old resolution. The bed was not the most comfortable nor the bedding itself. On the patio is a hot tub thats a bit smaller than I expected it to be. The hedges are way overgrown and also limit some of the view, I seen from old comments this has been an issue for a while they fail to address. The fixtures have old style dim bulbs in them.The room had no fridge, no microwave, no coffee pot etc. You have to go out to the office area and brew a pot yourself since they also do not brew any coffee for the guest it appears in the mornings either, still no employees found during the morning hours. The curtains for the sliding door were falling apart and you could not easily close them nor have full privacy. The sliding door does not even lock, they have a piece of flimsy wood for it. The 2nd night there were complaints of rooms out of power, found the father of the owner showing up at the same time and was asking me if I had power. The internet was also down the entire time while cell phone coverage being extremely limited so I had to drive to town just to be able to load anything and I had a lot to get done. I will say this hotel is a waste of money, this is one hotel or inn I will not return to, even budget motels offer more. Looking at some of the reviews here and I see some of these issues has been around for more than a couple of years and the owners have not addressed a single one of them. How they remain in business is beyond me, maybe due to the travel sites still listing it as more.

TV with local channels was wonderful. Bed was very comfortable. But... Little refrigerator was very noisy and woke us up more than once when trying to sleep. There was a step up to the bathroom which sometimes became annoying...especially for us "old people" in our 70's. We don't need accommodation, but a level floor throughout would be nice. There were times when the guests above us sounded like they were going to fall through the ceiling (one of the downsides to staying on the first floor, I guess). Bathroom had a step-in tub and shower, while a level shower only would be preferred. And most important to mention, $300+ dollars a night was unbelievably expensive for this quaint, but rather dated inn; that's the most we've ever paid for lodging...even in some big cities! And I saw lower prices for rooms in the same inn after we returned home. We enjoyed our visit to LaConner, but sadly, we'll never return.

We stayed in the Cabot 2 room and really loved having direct access to the balcony area. The balcony area is accessible to everyone staying there, but we never saw anyone else out there. At night, we bundled up with some hot apple cider and got to enjoy a huge lightning storm over Vancouver. We didn't hear any thunder or experience any rain, just the rustling of the trees nearby and an awesome light show. Breakfast was tasty -- which included an assortment of quiches from the Little Red Hen nearby, Greek yogurt with all the fixings, coffee and juices. Overall, we had a really nice, quick escape from the city and loved our stay at this adorable inn!

My niece and I and her two teenage sons were in town for the funeral of her brother. It was very…read morestressful and emotional time for us and we chose this venue due to it being close to other family and the funeral. The owner, Ellerie, us around the River cottage. The adults took the two bedrooms and the 16yr old took the small twin bed in the back and the 13 yr old son took the sofa. Ellerie commented to him that it should be quite comfortable. Ellerie gave us a tour around the unit explaining all the rules. She provides food in the frig and dry goods on the counter. We are welcome to the pantry items but to either replace or reimburse. As we were with other family in the area, a majority of the time we only slept, bathed and ate breakfast there. We wanted to just grieve and be left alone. However, we wish the owner would have respected that. Our first morning she came by to provide us with bags for the disposal water bottles we brought with us. As she came in and flittered about moving things around, she took the liberty to talk down to the 13yr old about "disrespecting her unit". Apparently he didn't "make his bed/sofa" and his suitcase was open on the floor (where else was he to put it?). She also moved things around in the kitchen and made her way to the back to indicate that 16yr also needed to make his bed. She asked us 6 times if we needed to have the trash emptied and asked if we needed anything else. We mentioned we could use more bacon as we used all she provided that morning. She asked the 16yr to follow her for the bacon. Apparently during this time she told him to make sure their beds were made and to keep the kitchen clean. It was clean. All the dishes were in the dishwasher and maybe a glass was on the table....being used. The next day...she told us to make sure the lights were off and that if she "noticed" we would not be there before dark she would turn on the inside light for us, therefore coming into the unit freely. Everyday she would email my niece about something or another, when we just wanted to be left alone. The final straw was when she told us that she wanted to do a walk through of the unit before we left. Never was this mentioned online, in our first tour or anything. We had to leave at 4:30am to make it for an early flight to the airport and if we could do it the night before and she said no and that she was an early riser. At that we could not take it anymore and left that night and spend the night in a hotel by the airport. As we did not wish to be held up so early in the morning and miss our flights. The unit itself was ok. The style is very eclectic but the beds and furniture were comfortable. Although we appreciate the food she provided she needs to understand that not all people eat what she provides. We also understand conserving but she goes to the extreme for someone charging $250 per night plus $35 for each additional person over two people. She really should not be in the hospitality business. She might mean well, but to us she was very intrusive and eventually made us very uncomfortable staying there where she frequently enters the unit and watches us (example: she came by at 7:20 am to comment on the amount of smoke coming from the chimney while we were still in pjs and some still sleeping). We still cannot believe how she obtained 5 star rating. Maybe these people only stayed one or two nights and not the 4-5 we did and maybe felt her quirky behavior as charming. We are just letting you know what happened to us so you can make an informed decision.
