When I asked why they needed a height and weight for snowshoeing they rudely answered that they need the information for skiing. When I mentioned I wasn't renting skis, they were rude. Next, asked for advice on where to go. The girl got out a map, not knowing how to read it, and said, "just go up the street." We did that; there was no trailhead, parking, or even a path. Went back to the shop and asked if we could park there and snowshoe from there and the answer was (again, rudely) "absolutely not." We asked for advice on where to go and they said to try the high school. Went there and there was no snow to be found. Eventually went back to our condo and discovered some very nice trails, no thanks to the rude people at this shop who acted like they hated their jobs, the customers, and life in general. That having been said, the snowshoes were also sub-par. The home page of their website said rentals were 35 $ but when you went to check out it changed to 39. Not worth it.

In my teenage years I did some pretty long trips. But at this point I'm back to newb status. I've been toying with the idea of getting a bike to help keep some of the Yelp pounds off, so I just ducked in here to have a look around. It's a nice shop on the west side of 700 East, and everyone was friendly. I was greeted when I came in the door but left to myself to just browse and look at bikes and gear. There's plenty of both. It's not massive, but for all the basic needs you're definitely covered. Bikes ranged from entry level up to the 2-3K range. Maybe more, but I wasn't reading all the price tags. This was a good place to start. Since it's not all uber high end stuff, it was a good representation of what's out there. Plus with friendly folks behind the counter I can come back next time and start firing away on all my inane questions. Solid.

Once the order was placed they were in contact with me, advised me of next steps, and shipped my bike out very quickly. When it arrived, it was packaged exceptionally well and completely flawless, and it was assembled about as far as it could be for shipping. About 30 minutes later I was riding. What really made them standout was the after-sale service. I'll admit I took a few tries to get my saddle height correct, partially due to the seat post slipping. In the process of readjusting, I ended up stripping the seat post wedge bolt. I emailed them back, and both Peter and Andrew responded, and had a replacement part as well as carbon paste dispatched to me almost immediately. This is despite them knowing that I'm out in CA and pretty much guaranteed not to have my bike serviced there. That level of customer support is almost unheard of now and a true testament to how devoted they are to the customer experience. Whether you are local to them or online, I can't recommend Contender Bicycles enough, and I can confidently say I will be buying all my bikes and cycling gear from them from now on.
