I visited this hotel and restaurant as part of a wedding and honestly the place is wonderful. The…read morefood was very nice and well presented, which considering the number of people is quite an achievement. The rooms range from £150 to £240 and having the opportunity to see a number of them not one was a let down each has a unique theme and all are impressive. When you first enter your room you will undoubtedly be impressed and take a little time poking around at all the things to take in. You will also get a empty pint glass that can be filled for free if you find the hidden tap, it does exist but I'm not saying where you have to earn that free drink. However the place does have one baffling element, Bora Bora is the ideal room for a romantic getaway with one fatal flaw that has the potential to ruin any romantic liason the toilet has no door and nobody wants the illusion that the stunning goddess staying with you is doing anything other than powdering her nose when she enters the bathroom. If you stay in mount nelson take a little time to read some of the champagne bottles lining the top shelf most are anniversaries, birthdays and the odd honeymoon but the one that touched my heart simply had "swingers 08" and four names

This should be one of the UK's most outstanding seafood 'emporiums'…read more It has a large selection of fresh and frozen fish as well as loads of stuff to go with them - sauces, pickles, mustards there is even a wine section. What lets it down is the slightly aloof attitude of the staff who never seem terribly happy to serve you and the idea of banter with these people is almost unheard of. Produce is almost begrudgingly sold. The quality of the produce is without question - they keep live lobsters here so you know how fresh they are. It's worth a visit as they sell almost everything (no frozen baby squid though! Shame as these are readily available in Leeds market!). Could do much better, and not a patch on most of the stalls selling fish in Leeds market - see my other reviews for that.

The service is aloof at best and produce is sold as if they do not care. Asking them to scale a fish seems a chore and is always half done, resulting in a difficult task whereby you are trying to finish the job without damaging the flesh - it is almost impossible to do this once fish has been filleted!! What a waste, not everyone eats fish without the skin and therefore scaling should be a given. C'mon guys, pull your socks up, it isn't that difficult to provide decent customer service rather than just being a shop front for your suppliers, you are adding no value whatsoever just now. Not sure if there are other fishmongers around, maybe in Knaresborough...if so it will be worth the drive.

Like with many good restaurants, I have a keen sense of hearing, and heard some good things about…read morethis place. My ears prop up if I hear the word 'steak'. That's not an exaggeration. So after much consideration of when to go, I finally made a visit with my eating buddy on a Sunday afternoon. I knew what I was going to order, after browsing on their website - I wanted a big piece of steak. After a long working week, I needed a treat, so decided to go full out. I really liked the decor inside - maybe it was personal preference but it was modern and oozed class, which added to the whole dining experience. We were in a corner close to the window, and provided menus. A simple menu with steakhouse favourites always wins me over, and shouldn't be cluttered. If you want to serve good food, then specialise in a few things! As I knew what I wanted, I needed to decide which size steak I wanted to devour and I chose the 310g rib-eye steak, which is just shy of 11oz. I also chose the duck spring rolls as a starter, but requested it to be served with my main. After a reasonable wait, my food came with steady hands, and it looked really good just sitting there waiting to enter my stomach. I must say it was a fabulous steak, cooked medium, so had a little pink inside. There was a crisp exterior with soft interior, packed with meaty beefy flavour (as expected!), and I took the time to really enjoy it. The spring rolls weren't that great though. Too much pastry and not enough filling. After the steak, I decided to have a dessert. My all time favourite is warm chocolate cake with ice cream and there it was on the dessert menu, so I ordered it! The dessert was ok, chocolatey and warm, but there was something about the cake that didn't seem right to me. It was bitty. It didn't say on the menu that it was bitty. The vanilla ice cream was nice and complimented the cake. Overall it was a good experience. The service was also good and friendly and the waiters looked smart. Although it was a great main, the starter and dessert was average, so this barely managed 4 stars! If you're a meat lover, then having a steak at this place is definitely well worth it. I'll definitely make another trip and try out the other dishes on offer and maybe prop it up to 5 stars if I get a good starter and/or dessert.

Service was great. A great atmosphere and general nicely finished restaurant. As to the food..steak…read morereview...I ordered the premium ribeye and it was very lame. I cook better steak at home for 1/3 the cost. Ive had some amazing steaks around the world at some exclusive restaurants and this wouldn't make the top 1000...the side of vegetables tasted great if that helps?
