Our first night in Harrogate the lovely hostess at our B&B suggested this restaurant. After a long…read moreday at a conference I was yearning for something other than steak or chicken, I wanted oriental food! We walked up to the place, without reservations, and were seated in a lovely spot. The restaurant is instead one of the old Baths which litter the Harrogate landscape - as Harrogate is a spa town, doing brisk business during the Victorian & Edwardian era. The interior decor was an amalgam of chinese/oriental and pre-edwardian. I was so delighted to see dim sum items on the menu. I have so longed for some steamed sticky pork buns and these were among the best I've ever had. The waiters bring out a little hotplate to the table and place your food there, so you can serve yourself. The food is kept at an optimal temperature while you share your food with your dining companion. I felt like I was back at Jade Dynasty in Toronto - one of the many places where you don't see a white-face amongst all the chinese patrons. The food was so delicious, the seasoning perfect, and there was just enough to get me full without feeling like I was overly stuffed. This is not a cheap place to eat, nor is it overly expensive either. If you're looking for a good place to eat for either a special occassion or romantic date, this place is perfect. It has booths, tables and a huge central round table - a la King Arthur's Round Table.

The dining room here must be one of the most spectacular I have ever seen. The Victorian decor and…read morebeautiful ceiling, walls and decoration are just beautiful. Fortunately the quality of the setting is reflected in the food. Delicious throughout and with some well thought out combinations for parties, this is a great menu and tastes excellent. Friendly staff and a relaxed approach make it one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. I have had better Chinese food - which explains the lack of a ***** review - but this is pretty excellent and we've been a few times.

This is a cafe in a league of very few teams what with there being a scanty supply of English cafes…read morewith a chinese menu that would keep most chinese restaurants in plentiful business. It's usually pretty packed out, a testiment to their tasty food at more than reasonable prices. Open throughout the day, but not evenings. The staff are chinese and very friendly. The service is swift. This cafe is frequented by a wide ranging clientele, from pensioners who pop in for a coffee, to teenagers after a good feed for a fiver. Where Betty's is the place for delicious coffee at sky high prices, immaculately served, this is the place for a steaming mug of instant at about a pound a pop, served with a casual, warm smile, to be enjoyed while partaking in some excellent people watching. Perfect for a cold blustery day with good company :o) Their English menu ranges from toasted baguettes to omlettes to beans on toast. The standard is fair to middling and the portions are big. The chinese menu is much larger and includes all the expected classics chicken fried rice, mixed meat noodles, singapore fried rice, beef and tomato (all about £5.50, rice included with all main meals). It's all tasty and served in large quanties. You'll leave with change in your wallet, a full stomach and a satisfied grin on your face. There aren't many places where you can have a casual, very reasonably priced chinese meal at lunchtime, I don't think many cities the size of Harrogate would have an equivalent. It's wonderfully unique. A visit is highly recommended.

Cambridge Cafe is one of those totally unassuming places that looks like your regular greasy spoon…read more They've got a basic menu of traditional fare, which is pretty good. However, Cambridge Cafe is run by a super nice Chinese family, and their Chinese menu is -to die for-. It's real, home cooked Chinese food, and it's amazing. I've never been a fan of sweet and sour chicken, but this place's is so good- it doesn't taste anything like the neon stuff you get from the takeaway. It's like having a Chinese grandma cook you delicious food. Cambridge Cafe is one of those places I get cravings for, and I live in Chicago at the moment! Any time I manage to get back home, I always make a trip to this place.

Just down the street from Christie's Pub, this place is the must go to stop after an evening of ales.
