This place is a real gem :) Me and my partner went here for…read moreour 9 month anniversary and we were surprised at how much we enjoyed ourselves. We had a mixed starter to begin with so we got a little bit of everything, but i would seriously recommend the salt, pepper and chili mushrooms. I don't like spicy food that much but these had just the right amount of kick to them to be tolerable yet incredibly tasty! Safe to say, i scoffed them all!! For main course I had sweet and sour chicken. It was DELICIOUS. At imperial you get just the right amount of food, so its not like your eating what seems to be a never ending plate of food which happens in a lot of places!! That being said, I could have eaten that meal til i was sick, it was just beautiful! Beautifully seasoned with just the right amount of sweet and sour. And who could really argue with the fact you get free prawn crackers and a fortune cookie and mints at the end?! Not me!! The staff are also really friendly and really helpful. They provide a great customer service and all add to the great vibe this place gives. If you ever get chance to eat here, I would reccomend that you do. Its superb!

Between the 6 of us we had a variation of 7 starters (e.g. Spareribs in OK sauce, Chicken wings with salt and chili, Seaweed, Chicken Saté, Prawn toast etc.) After this we shared a half aromatic crispy duck between us and to finish it off, we all had a different main course. Every single thing was absolutely delicious, well cooked, well seasoned, well presented we could not have wished for more and nobody had room left for a dessert! The service was speedy, attentive and everybody had always time for a joke and a good laugh. We felt as welcome as if we were part of the family. And when the bill was presented... well, another nice surprise. Fantastic food, great hospitality, great value for money - you will have to search around for qutie a while to find a place that matches The Imperial in Shipley

It was my father in laws birthday and he chose this restaurant, we actually chose this restaurant…read morethe previous year but there are two main Chinese restaurants in the area, we got the wrong one and booked for there instead.. I'm so glad we decided to return and try this one out. It's quite a big place and can been seen from the roundabout.. of course we drove straight past it though because you come off the roundabout and the turning in is literally the first immediate right. When we go anywhere new we normally try the set menu to get a good idea of the food in the place and then if it's good we come back and try different dishes the next time.. also we tend to gauge a good Chinese restaurant on the hot and sour soup.. this was a good one. We had a mixed platter for the second course (ribs, prawn toast, spring roll and a kinda curry samosa) they all tasted wonderful. Then for the main course we got steak in a fruit sauce, beef in chilli sauce and king prawn massaman curry.. which again was great.. they are big portion sizes too so we didn't get chance to sample a desert. The service was excellent too.. we got a young woman as our waitress and she was delightful.. she engaged with us, was funny and attentive to our needs.. also we weren't rushed in anyway either.. they were quite happy for us to chat away at our hearts content even though it was getting close to their closing time. Suffice to say we left a tip and me and the other half already have plans to return for our date night.. even though it's a good half hour drive from our house.

This little town of Thirsk is pretty quiet...but along the Market place are numerous business' and…read moreeven a couple hotels. Its dinner time, what to eat...CHINESE...!!! While this establishment is open only at select times of the day...it must be popular...as not only did i wait outside in the rain...so did a dozen other people...so, why no recent reviews? There is a dining room with a number of tables for those wanting to dine-in...but I wanted take-away ("to go") that I could enjoy at my leisure in my hotel room...in front of the TV. I was greeted by the nicest lady, who took my order... 1. Hot and Sour Soup 2. Pork Chop Suey 3. Char Sui Foo Yung, which also included Egg Fried Rice at 30p extra I perhaps waited only 15-minutes or so...back at the room, opened up my meal. First, no styro foam containers (this is a good thing)...each dish was packed nicely in foil containers which not only assisted with spill control in the bag, but most importantly it kept my food HOT (this is a good thing). Lets just offer an observation...Chinese food in the UK is not the Chinese food you may experience in America...or even China...but it was more than acceptable, and was quite enjoyable. First, the Hot and Sour soup appeared to me as having a more tomato base than I have experienced before...similar to a bisque consistency. WOW, what a wonder flavor, while having the spice edge that I like, there was also a lite sweetness...I liked this very much. Following was the Pork Chop Suey. Absolutely perfect, with a good mix of meat, sprouts, onion, carrot, etc. Also included tonight was the Char Sui Foo Yung. I thought that I knew what this dish was, but it was prepared much differently here than at home. First it is notable to say this is not a greasy fried egg foo young pancake as you would find in America...in fact, this isn't fried at all, and it is not smothered in gravy. The make-up of the dish is egg, pork and peas...perhaps another ingredient or two. This was a surprise, but, what a good tasty surprise. Contrary to the reviews by others...I had great service, prompt and courtesy acknowledged. My food was perfect...hot, tasty...very enjoyable. And the cost...quite acceptable. It should be noted that this business was established in 1965...this is a local family operation, not a commercial corporation from London...these are your friends and neighbors, show your support, they deserve your business. When I travel back this direction...yes, I will stop in, say hello and experience another wonderful meal.

Best Chinese in Thirsk without a doubt. The food is fresh, tasty & consistent…read more Have been a regular customer for years and will continue to be for many more to come. I can honestly say I've never eaten a bad meal here, neither in the restaurant or a takeaway.

Wow! Thats the…read morefirst world that springs to mind, and is by far THE BEST Chinese Restaurant I have been to bar none. When first seeing the outside of the building you are greeted with a oriental themed front, with an overhanding roof and two guard lions outside. Once through the double doors you come across a cozy layout, with roughly 8-10 tables of varying sizes. Not a huge place the layout used to comply with a local public house, however the decor is great with glowing red windows (obviously behind a fake wall) and great decoration throughout. Seating is ample and the ambiance isn't overpowering. Service Is great, the people are helpful and attentive without being too nosy or prying... which on occasion is a fine balance. Drinks were offered as soon as we sat down and menus handed out without a fuss. Food This is sit down buffet style menu though please don't be put off with the word 'buffet'. Your meals are all freshly prepared and served to you as you would a traditional restaurant. For £13.95 per head you get ample choice of starters and main courses. Myself I have tried almost everything on the menu (not in one visit!) and I absolutely love: Crispy Seaweed (Fried cabbage usually) Barbecue Ribs Salt and Chilli Ribs - vegetarian option - the vegetable mix with lettuce wrap. Oh and the soups are great too: The Crab meat and sweetcorn soup is my fav Main courses are all what you would expect with the addition of Thia Cuisine too. Again I loved: Garlic and Chilli King Prawns with Egg Fried Rice ( Prawns are butterflied) In conclusion if your in the area this is a great place to go and well worth a visit! p.s. limited parking at the front, otherwise parking is on the street which can be busy at times.

I won't lie the prices are a little steep.. I got salt and pepper squid tentacles at £7.90.. to be fair it was the only one we considered worth the money because the squid was nice and soft and you got a nice crisp from the thin coating on the outside, it tasted really nice but it was a little dry because it came with no dipping sauce or anything just to make it easier to swallow. We also ordered the ma lat beef, which tasted nice too but didn't have a kick when it said it was supposed to be spicy.. harbour king prawns which was also dry but in its defence i think it was supposed to be like that because the king prawns in it were beautifully cooked. The chicken in black bean sauce tasted nice and also the the won tons from the mixed starter to share were very good.. they did charge over £5 for a portion of bean sprouts and also the house special rice cost over £10. All in all I'd give it 3.5 stars but I though giving it three stars on here wouldn't be fair to knock their rating down. They also add on an optional 10% service charge onto your bill, so if you don't want to pay it then you have to check your bill properly, we chose to pay ours because in the end.. it was a nice evening out.
