* Chicken Parmesan 3/5 * Spaghetti Aglia Olio 2/5 * Carbonara 2.5/5 * Fusilli Alla Vodka 4/5 * Garlic Breed 2.5/5 - Fusilli Alla Vodka was the star! By far the best dish. Good thick pasta and a nice spicy sausage -Spaghetti Aglia Olio was just boring. Its like a side dish or a child's meal. - Carbonara was ok but the bacon was inedible.

We LOVE Grassa the noodles texture and taste is better than any of the noodles cuz their so fresh! I'm super sad they got don't have pizza pockets anymore those were my favorite! The chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti and Pork Rigatoni is my families favorite! The vibe inside is nice and relaxed! The waiters were nice!

Grassa is still our go to pasta place! They've definitely improved over the years since they've opened. Service has been fast and great!! Everyone is super friendly. There's now a lunch special that runs until 3pm including a spaghetti with meat balls, half size Cesar salad, and small drink.

Met youngest son at his apartment, so he can drive us to LO's Grassa for lunch, in his new IONIQ5 vehicle. I've done an event here one summer, just 200 feet away, and it brought good memories of that hot summer, and I can't believe we're having lunch here now. I was craving for another Risotto! Instead, I ordered the Spaghetti Aglio Olio (we had that from another Italian restaurant, and it's time to make comparisons). (I thought, I liked their meatballs here better, but son argued with me, and said he'll pick the other restaurant's version). Hubby ordered the same thing. Son ordered the Carbonara. We shared a serving of Roasted Beets. All three of us agreed it had too much horseradish! Next time: I'll try the Burrata. Honestly? I should have ordered extra to take home, for another meal another day, on the same order, but luckily, I have enough meal for lunch. Yes, they're meatballs were better, and craving for one as I typed. :)

Calamari $17 tiny portion (lack of presentation is my fault the takeout box fell on its side)

Vibes and decor are amazing and trendy casual. Menu has a nice range, alcohol available. I like that it seems to be made-to-order food but quick bc it's pasta + food prep seems pretty quick. I asked specifically before ordering if I could be walking out in 20min, he said for sure depending on what I want. I got 2 pastas and calamari, and he confirmed timing was no worries. I wait, at 20min ask a diff staff and she said it should be out soon if that's what I was told. At 25min I ask the guy I ordered with about it and they hustle to hand over my takeout bag in less than 5 min. Pastas were ok but my issue is calamari seems like it was the bottom of the bowl leftover batch of someone else's order. There were only 10-15pieces, lukewarm, and soggy. So sad, maybe if someone else brings me here I'll try again.

Got our food to go, cause the ambiance here is kinda like a warehouse - cold and a bit cavernous, with a bunch of communal tables, but modern. Our order was great though; Fussili ala Vodka, spicy red sauce in a curly pasta with lovely chunks of pork shoulder and a perfectly dressed Caesar salad, anchovies and all. I realize the Fusilli is supposed to have some heat, but it's like the cap fell off the jar of chili flakes for my order! Holy....I still loved it, but I was sweating through the whole meal. Grassa has their counter service model down pat, and the meals come out fairly quick, fresh and hot, so thumbs up there. Service is up and down, depending on how slammed they are, but I give them a pass since they do do aLOT of takeout orders. Love that they have beer, wine and some cocktails. Order at the counter, have a seat and your food appears. Plenty of parking here, just not a very cozy experience if you're dining in.

My update of Grassa is overdue. My husband and I were disappointed in our first visit last year. We're glad we gave it another chance, and we have been going here regularly. The Rigatoni (5 stars) reminded me of my husband's family recipe, which was the reason we fell in love with Grassa seven years ago. It was yummy comfort food with tender pieces of pork. The Pork Belly Mac & Cheese (5 stars) tasted more like a creamy pasta rather than a mac and cheese to me. The flavorful pork belly was craveable and delicious on its own. The jalapeños were a nice surprise between bites, but it isn't overly spicy. The cornbread crumbs were a subtle garnish, and it was nice when the fine crumbs were incorporated in each bite. I usually alternate between the Rigatoni and Pork Belly Mac & Cheese. I have had better Carbonara (3 stars). My husband likes the Garlic Bread (3 stars) more than I do. The Love Me Forever (4 stars) was a refreshing vodka cocktail. The service was 4 stars. We haven't waited too long for our takeout orders or if we dine in. We enjoy going to Grassa when we have a pasta craving.

Ragu and garlic bread were very good. First time at this location. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Staff was friendly and quick service

I've reviewed Grassa before, so this won't be a long review. Just have to say tonight I tried their current special, Chicken Parm Cannelloni. Omg! One of the best things I've eaten in a while. This is an all timer here at Grassa. They've had some other great ones, this one is equal to or better than all of them. Describing this will be difficult, but I'll try. Basically these are like Italian enchiladas with spicy chicken in a red sauce, with whipped ricotta on top. I really can't tell you how good this was. The rest of our food was awesome tonight! Great job!

Nina J.

I was hoping the food would come out a bit faster given that it's more of a "fast food" style pasta establishment. It took around 25 minutes after ordering for the dishes to be ready which is similar to many sit-down places. The pasta itself was good and a decently sized portion.

Pasta was too stiff to wrap around fork.

Kathryn M.

This definitely could have been better. Arrived and ordered calamari, pork belly mac and cheese, and carbonara, as well as half a bottle of Pinot Gris and half a bottle of Malbec. They put in the order and rang us up at the same time, and we paid with a credit card. It immediately took us to the total and asked us for a tip - 15%, 20%, or 22% I think. I was taken aback a bit, being asked for a tip before even sitting down in a restaurant. It is like an assembly line, so after paying for your food and drink, you are instructed to move down the counter to collect your drinks and are given a tall metal token with a number on it to place at your table so servers know where to take the food. Our drinks were brought out to the counter, but my husband, who had ordered a half bottle of Malbec, only got a glass. We told them, and he went back to the entry person, who corrected and adjusted the bill, and he needed to put in his credit card again to correct the order . . . so another $7 was added to his credit card, and in the process, he was asked to tip on the adjustment before the transaction was processed. We then took our wine and glasses to a table, but on the way, I noticed a counter with bins of flatware and a pile of napkins, so I got those for us. We like water with our meal, so we looked around and saw another counter with a water dispenser, glasses, and large bottles we could fill, and so I went and got us water. While dispensing the water in our glasses, I noticed a shelf down below that contained several shakers of salt, pepper, and red chili pepper flakes, which prompted me to consider that if we might want them, we needed to get them for ourselves. At this point, please keep in mind that there are no signs or indicators of any sort that this is all pretty much self-serve; in other words, it would have been nice to know this in advance. And in all honesty, maybe the people at the counter told us as we paid and advanced down the counter, but the restaurant was very loud and noisy and echoed, and the people spoke fast and didn't really enunciate. We were brought our meals fairly quickly, but I asked that we would have liked our calamari before, and they said that we hadn't ordered the calamari and that they could go back and add it, which we declined, so we could enjoy our meals. Our pasta dishes were tasty to a degree, but nothing like what we had expected. I'm always wary of ordering some pasta dishes because so often the pasta is mushy and not al dente. Both of our pasta dishes were overly al dente - mine in particular, it actually crunched when I bit into it. My husband's was so stiff that it couldn't even be twirled around his fork. (picture will be attached) Both of the sauces on our pasta dishes were very scarce, and I compared them with each other, and they seemed to be the same except for a slightly different flavor. There was also a taste of flour in both of the sauces. The bottom line here is that while the food was tasty enough, even though not like we expected, it was not a good value, as the price seemed to be high for us, and the food was subpar. They charge you as you order, requesting a tip at the same time (as well as there is a tip jar to tip the kitchen staff), and yet there is no service at all. And I guess what really insulted me is that when you are finished, you are expected to bus your table to an area in the restaurant in the far corner near the restrooms. We watched everyone near us busing their own tables before they left, including a family with 3 children and a baby, cleaning their own tables before they left. So, I'm sorry to say that these two senior citizens, who are trying to support local businesses, will not be back. Also, while both of our wines were good, the Malbec was chilled, but maybe that's how it's done in restaurants these days. I'm now glad that they forgot to add the calamari to our order, though the calamari was the main reason that we decided on this restaurant, as it's hard to find good calamari around here. We are recent residents here after living on the Oregon Coast, and are having fun trying all of the eateries available to us now! But here is the bottom line: it wasn't terrible, and I'd say to try it. It might be perfect for someone other than me. We did manage to have a good date night because after 43 years of marriage, we still enjoy each other's company!

I wanted the reviews to be wrong...and we came with high hopes. Unfortunately my fellow yelperz were accurate. This place is worthy of the lousy 2.5 stars. While the service was friendly they were PAINFULLY slow especially for a place you order at the counter and not a long gradual sit down dinner. We ordered one buratta and one cacio e Pepe. Burrata came after about 15 minutes but it took at least 45-50 mins to get our one entree. Burrata - the peaches were good and the buratta was nice and soft. The tomatoes were mushy cherry tomatoes not great and the dish would be far better without. Cacio e Pepe - after waiting 45 minutes, I'd expect it to be nice and warm.....it was cold and congealed unfortunately. The flavor seemed like it was there but hard to tell when the consistency of the sauce was completely wrong due to the temp. I have no idea what the wait was for because clearly the dinner was ready? And it did not seem understaffed for the capacity & take out orders. I'd be up for trying this place again if the reviews turn around but if not, I wouldn't waste my time. read more

Unfortunate here that the food was really good, however the SUPER loud music, and dismissive service was off-putting. Staff was unfriendly and didn't follow up to see how our meals were, etc. even though we were one of only a couple of people in the restaurant (during lunch hour!?). Turn down the volume; turn up the customer service level - and this would absolutely be a regular spot to visit. read more

The two stars are for the AMAZING Caesar salad--I'd go back for that alone. The bucatini carbonara pasta I had was gummy and flavorless, the burrata was hideously over salted, and my friends butternut squash ravioli over sweet and lacked flavor depth. Disappointed. May try other menu items again or just have the Caesar. read more

I have gone to a few other locations in portland and i have been skeptical since they have become a chain and lost their touch as far as flavor goes, so i must give it to this team as i felt they were firing on all cylinders and actually tasting what they were making as to provide me the guest a better experience that will have me coming back to this location! Funny enough all the staff at this location appeared to be on the younger side! Not much of an ambiance but will be back due to great service and good food! read more

We've been going to the downtown Grassa for years and I was a little worried by the bad reviews for this location but we had great experience. Our meal today was flavorful and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. We were there at 3:00 on a Friday. My dad and I split 3 dishes: Chopped salad was tasty. Lots of peppers and salami. There was a little too much dressing for me but Dad loved it. Frito misto was my favorite. Hot and crispy and so delicious! Calamari was tender, lemons were a highlight and crispy onions were delish. I enjoyed the aioli too. The ragu rigatoni was rich and flavorful with lots of tender pork chunks. Pasta was perfectly Al dente. We will be back! read more

I never write reviews, especially bad ones, however after a dinner w my mom I decided I had to. The man taking our order was flippant and totally disrespectful to me and her. No one was in line and yet he looked perturbed at my mom perusing the menu after what she planned on ordering wasn't in the menu. He rushed us and was totally rude, the definition of a SOB. I've worked in service before and I know people can have bad days but he totally ruined what was going to be a special dinner with my mom and I. The food has been cold and under seasoned the couple of times I've been there, and the fried brussel sprouts, specifically the larger ones, weren't even cooked through. I've given this place a couple of chances cuz I like to support businesses in my neighborhood but this place is not worth it. If you want good food and good people go to Szechuan kitchen instead that's right nearby. read more

Do you like the freshest pasta in all the land then this is the best you're going to get especially for the price and seasonal selection and they're conveniently located all over Portland and surrounding areas and it's still supporting a great local business. I am a vegetarian or pescatarian, and there's always options for me and my partner who enjoys the carnivorous selection. It's an easy way to have a nice meal out. The service is light, but it was built that way and the environment is always friendly. read more

Grassa is EXCELLENT. I have been to the location in Portland multiple times, and I'm so excited to have one closer in the burbs now! This is quality pasta, the menu is short but sweet and has options for everyone. I love a good carbonara and theirs is perfect, perfectly cooked egg on top and I love that they add a crunchy element. We loved their garlic bread as well! Only thing to keep in mind currently is that they're takeout and delivery only for the time being, there is no seating inside yet and only a few tables outside. We were lucky to snag one, but I would plan to potentially need to take your food home or elsewhere to enjoy. Highly suggest calling it in for now either way as the wait was about 45 minutes. read more

Grassa always has the best pasta! We ordered the Pork Belly Mac & Cheese and the Cacio e Pepe. Both dishes were great! The Mac & Cheese with the pork belly was cheesy with juicy pork belly and flavoring. The cacio e pepe was truffle-y and buttery. We also got the gluten free pesto pasta to-go and glad we did! I loved the toasted hazelnuts in the pesto pasta; such a great added texture to the pasta! Well done Grassa! read more

Food: adequate, no complaints. Business practices: terrible. This outfit automatically adds a 20% "gratuity", no options to online orders. AND this "gratuity" does NOT go to the employees. It all goes to the company. You get an opportunity (meaning can't avoid it) to add a tip to the employees later. AND if you want to order online, you have to either use Google or Facebook, or "create an account" with a third party ordering service. Don't forget to uncheck the "I want junk emails" box and the "Keep this credit card in your files" box. All in all: one time and done for me. Pathetic. read more

This location lacks any customer service! Drive to Portland. this staff ruins the brand. First off I love grassa and why I don't have the heart to give 1 star. You can see I've left a review from one of their other locations. However my experience on 2/14 was just so bad. Probably the worst treatment at any food establishment. I walk in- with it being Valentine's Day we came with plenty of patience. There was just one other couple in front of us waiting to order. You can tell they were busy with take out orders, so we wait. A couple walks in behind us and leaves. Women at the register has yet to look up. Then about two parties walk in behind us. The person at the register has been busy punching in things and taking phone orders, three while we have been waiting! Zero acknowledgment of any of us there in person . Finally the person doing expo also comes up to the register we ask hey she keeps taking phone order can can you help. She rudely says I'm not taking orders I'm just 86ing items off the menu. I understand you are swamped but don't take it out on all the customers who kindly waited. after waiting there for 20 minutes they tell us we are backed up and it's a 90 minute wait for food. Everyone in line left!! Can you imagine being ignored then being rudely told that. Just tell people when they walk in so we can choose to wait or not. Also if you're so busy with online and phone orders say something or post a sign. Maybe close your online ordering if you are so backed up. But being rude and not communicating to customers patiently waiting is not okay. I know this group can hire and train good people. We walked into lardo across the way. Such a kind man took our order. It have majorly slipped here. read more

Their calamari is so good, and most pastas are great. I feel like they put way too much butter on every pasta. Alfredo, and truffle pasta, I got sick after 1/2 bowl, it was too rich, but when I requested for 1/4 butter the second time I ordered it was good. Giving this place 1 stars. This was my first time going to grassa as I've heard great things about it. Take into consideration the other Yelp reviewers, review. My food took 45 minutes for 2 pastas and some garlic bread. Our food was NOT EVEN HOT. NOT EVEN WARM. IT WAS COLD. My boyfriend ordered the chicken parm and his portion of pasta was enough to feed a 5 year old. It seriously was a joke. The chicken parm wasn't even warm. It was soggy and falling apart. The garlic bread was tough and old. My carbonara pasta was alright. I would have enjoyed it much more if it was at least warm. If you're looking for a spot with a great atmosphere, this is it. We had a 6:00 p.m. reservation on a Thursday, and although the restaurant was fairly busy, we were seated right on time. Our server was fantastic--friendly, attentive, incredibly quick, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He made some excellent recommendations, and everything he suggested was spot on. The drinks were well made, the food came out hot and fresh, and the timing of everything was excellent. Secondly, the menu sucked and was very overpriced especially for clam chowder. I mean, $18 for a bowl? What's it got in it gold? We can do better so we left.

We were seated quickly -- it was a nice day, so we sat in their lovely outdoor dining area. They brought us room temperature waters (not a fan), and took our drink orders rather quickly. Service was good throughout our visit. I ordered the IPA Bacon Cheeseburger, which came (over)loaded with lots of fresh vegetables, a large burger patty, and the IPA mustard sauce. I don't want to complain about a burger being piled high with bacon, pickles, and fresh onions, lettuce, & tomatoes; but it was difficult to eat. While the Challah bun was delicious, it was woefully undersized for the task of holding it all together. I enjoyed it, but felt the IPA sauce was lost in the midst of everything else, and I also thought the burger patty was under-seasoned. I ordered fries as a side, and unfortunately they were the "battered" variety, which I just don't enjoy. Restaurants -- please, just serve normal French fries, without any batter on them! We knew from past experience that baked goods and desserts are really what La Provence is good at, so we ordered Tiramisu for dessert. Their very non-traditional take on this Italian classic would probably some people uneasy, but it was delicious. It had a dense chocolate cake base, with a thick layer of mascarpone mousse on top of that, then a topping of thin, crunchy, chocolate hazelnut ganache. Not too sweet, with a variety of textures to enjoy. We would definitely come back again, but I'd get something other than burger and fries.

I tried this restaurant recently, and while the food itself is decent/good, but not outstanding... what really soured the experience for me were their policies and hidden costs. I placed an online order and realized within 10 seconds that I had forgotten to add a couple of items. When I tried to cancel so I could place a corrected order, I was told it wasn't possible. That kind of rigid, customer-unfriendly policy is frustrating and unnecessary. On top of that, while their base prices (like pasta dishes) are fairly average, the add-on costs quickly make the meal feel overpriced. Between the tipping prompts, service fees, delivery fees, and every other fee under the sun, the final bill ends up being far more than you'd expect. Overall, the food may be fine, but the lack of flexibility and excessive fees make it hard to justify ordering again. read more

I'll keep this one somewhat short and just say, go give Salami Mammi a try ASAP. Order whatever sounds best at the moment and you'll almost certainly be glad you did (but DEFINITELY consider getting an order of fries). It's a very small space so seating can be a challenge, but the staff are incredibly patient, friendly, helpful, and welcoming, so it feels approachable even when there's a crowd (which is pretty much always). Go a bit early if you can because selling out of things is not uncommon. Personally I would HIGHLY recommend the Fra Diavolo style for most (all) of the sandwiches. The peppers are SO good... There are plenty of pics around and the menu is as diminutive at the space so I won't gild the lily, and will simply say again it's awesome and worth giving a try!

Don Salamone promised us a sandwich shop years ago, before the pandemic turned everything upside…read moredown, took his original site (which is now on its second restaurant) off the table, and made a reservation-only high-end supper club a better option. In 2026, he's finally made good on the original premise. In the former home of the fiscally swanky but appropriately homey Don's Favorite Foods (where I paid more for braciole than I ever have in my life), the man has built us the house of parms he'd envisioned when Burger Stevens did its Stevens Italiano pop-ups many, many years ago. With touches of Rochester, N.Y., sprinkled throughout the menu, Don has packed in the three holy parms (chicken sausage, sausage, eggplant) and threw in a low-country curve (shrimp) for good measure. In a move that made my eyes well up a bit, he has a chicken cutlet with lettuce, caesar dressing and grana padano (less fussy parmesan). The cold cut sandwich isn't some rote italian combo of ham, provolone and a cured meat to be named later, but a pile of Mortadella, capicola, genoa salami, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomato... all doused in oil and vinegar. Note the lack of mayonnaise. I've been so beaten down by the sandwich options west of the tunnels that I'm genuinely surprised when I see the little details executed well. I was wondering what they were going to do for bread with Dos Hermanos already offering their own sandwiches down the street, and Good Dough on 6th's sourdough baguettes are ranked right up there with Fleur de Lis and Little T for great Italian sandwich bread that's going to hold up to the marinara and oil and vinegar being thrown at it. As for the sides, the fries Italiano are kind to offer calabrian-chili ranch, but should take no dip. The garlic bread is perhaps the only loaf in this state that doesn't overbutter the entire affair and drown the whole thing in garlic cloves. If you're used to your local Freddy's bakery unloading its garlic and butter overstock onto your "garlic bread," this is going to disappoint. Dip a stick of Darigold into a jar of Chef Cuisine minced garlic, twist, and eat if that's what you're going for. I've already seen people scoff at the $4 side of "red sauce," and I'm here to tell you that's not overpricing: That's a penalty. If you're adding sauce to an already sauced item, you're just paying a premium for drowning out the intended balance with what, to you, is the appropriate amount of sauce. It's your right to ask, but it's also completely appropriate for this place to ding you for it. Meanwhile, I love that other choices are rewarded. $4 for peppers and onions on that sausage parm? Sure. Same price for throwing broccoli rabe onto that cutlet? Absolutely. We're finally getting a few places in town (Loyal Legion, June, the Broadway on a good day) that don't have to look up seemingly simple drinks like a Negroni or an Aperol Spritz, but it's nice to have a place in town that treats them like an adult cafe lunch option and not some feature of a premium cocktail list. I finally have my West Side Italian sandwich shop with no mayonnaise, minimal ranch dressing, and owners who genuinely love what they do. I'd say I wish Salami Mammi the best, but I'm going to invest heavily in that outcome. P.S. The "Sad Valley" reply to a guy who drove from Happy Valley is 1. Legitimately funny and 2. Authentically Northeast.
